Deadlocked drivers door! Advice please!
PFSC replied to PFSC's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
It didn’t work for me either. I’m an engineer by trade and am competent on the tools. I’ve also been in the motor trade - working on and around cars - for longer than I care to remember. I cut the mechanism open to gain access to the plastic gear, but had no success in it releasing the deadlock. I tried several times... The only option was to break the lock assembly apart so I could get to the latch, and then finally open the door. Fortunately I had a spare lock mechanism that I’d previously bought for a Mk4 Golf - but never used. The general consensus of opinion was that the Golf item - whilst looking and being mechanically the same - wasn’t compatible, due to differences within the electrical side of things. However - and to my delight, in this instance it worked absolutely fine and all is now well. Thank you to everyone on here and everywhere else for the help and advice. Most appreciated 👍🏽 -
Afternoon all. My drivers door lock is deadlocked and I can't open it from inside or out. I've tried the banging suggestion around the lock barrel, but it makes no difference... What's the best way to get it open...? I don't mind if I've got to butcher the door card to sort it! Thanks in advance 👍

MK1 Octavia tdi / Mk4 Golf tdi ECU Swap ?
PFSC replied to PFSC's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
In all honesty, I don't know. What I can tell you though, is that while the Golf ECU was away having the new chips done, another ECU off another Mk4 Golf was fitted to the car so I could still use it. That was for a good week or so... I was there while it was being swapped over, and it was just a case of the wiper arms and scuttle panel being removed so the ECU's could be swapped over. There was no mention, or diagnostic work, to do with immobiliser/transponder etc. -
MK1 Octavia tdi / Mk4 Golf tdi ECU Swap ?
PFSC replied to PFSC's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Thanks for the reply. When I get a minute I'm going to check the part numbers on the ECU's and see if they're the same. They could well be... The other thing I'm thinking, is that maybe the chips in the ECU can be swapped over...? So taking the upgraded chips out (that I had put in) of the Golf, and fitted into the Skoda ECU. I'm just thinking out loud here. Could be wrong, but the engineer in me suspects that even though there's a difference in engine codes, and maybe ECU part numbers, there's got to be some similarities with other components etc. Does anyone one else in here have any ideas...? -
Afternoon. I'm after a bit of tech advice on an ECU swap - if anyone can help, please? I have a 98' MK4 Golf GT tdi that I've been running for the past 5 yrs. It started life as a 110, but I had new chips written for it and it's now somewhere round the 145/150 mark. For info, at the time it couldn't be remapped (am told because it has the none PD, old 'thumper' motor), so instead the ECU was removed, sent away, and new chips were written and installed. The Golf is soon to be retired for good however, and I'm now running a 99' MK1 Octavia tdi with the same none PD thumper motor - which I think are ace. I was told before putting the Octavia on the road, that because the engines in both cars are 'the same', that the ECU can be taken off the Golf and fitted to the Skoda. Straight forward enough job then, and thus giving the Skoda some more desperately needed power. However..... I've just been looking at the engine specs/codes in the service books for both cars, and the Golf has a AHF engine code, but the Octavia has the AGR engine code! Does anyone out there know if this means the ECU's can't be swapped over? Is it just a case of the Golf motor being slightly different spec to the Skoda, but the electrics and fuel system mapping could be the same....? Or does the different engine code just mean the Golf is/was a 110 bhp, and the Skoda is the 90 bhp version...? Any help would be appreciated please. Thanks in advance!

Help please with my puddles!! :( in foot wells
PFSC replied to cyber_killer's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
The leak... I've not gone back and read the full thread/posts just now, but personally I'd be surprised if water ingress from the side window area would be bad enough to form a lake in the footwells. That said - I could be entirely wrong. Been running Mk4 Golfs as regular transport for yonks, and also have a Mk1 Oct RS that we've been using for the past 3.5 yr's as the shopping motor. One thing I did have on a Mk4 Golf a few yr's back, was a lot of water coming in and onto the drivers side front footwell. Masses in fact. So much so that it took some working out, and by the time I'd sussed it out there were mushrooms growing out of the rear drivers side mat. The simple prob/fix was down to the drivers side sunroof drain. The bung/grommet in the A pillar, which acts as the diverter, and is where the pipe from the roof goes, to then let the water out into the door shut/upper sill area - was missing. Consequently, the pipe from the sunroof was just hanging inside the hole in the A pillar, and all the water from the sunroof drain was running straight into the car. The grommet/bung was found inside the glovebox... Problaymo solved!! Hope this is of some use : ) -
Hello. Yes, the the colour match was spot on. Both bumpers ideally could've done with painting really, but due to time, and the fact that I was just about to move business premises, meant that I just needed to get it on the road as soon as was possible. The tdi was a very clean 2 owner 96k with full history. The donor car was an 02 plate 120k RS. We've already got a black 2003 RS, and I also had one brand new as a company car back in 2002, so I know what's what, and what was needed to get the RS look - but with 65 mpg! As I said in the first post, the tdi has no sunroof or rear wiper, so l personally think it makes for a cleaner look. As as well as the bumpers and boot spoiler, the bonnet, grill, front & rear lights, front shocks & springs, rear springs, and wheels were also changed, and as the RS rear bumper has the square cut out for the pipe - we also had the tailpipe off the RS too! See pic. Brakes......... that's (maybe) another project for another time - when I've got nothing to do! They're currently in standard form and they pull the car up ace. Had things have been made simpler I'd have had the front calipers off the donor car, but without going into too much detail it's not a straight forward bolt on job to stick them onto the none PD version of the tdi. The rears are another complication as well, as the tdi has drums on the back... handbrake's mint though!

Afternoon. A few few pics of my latest daily. Based on a 1999 1.9 tdi GLX. No sunroof and no rear wiper as standard - which I'm a huge fan of. Only put it on the road at the end of November, so it's not had a wash yet! First pic is of how it looked when I bought it.

Am led to believe that the RS has completely different front suspension set up to that of the rest of the range, and is unique to the RS. The hub assy is also different. I did think the same at the start of the project, but was told by various techs that it would be far simpler to just change the springs, or springs & shocks to bring it down a bit.

Hello. I'm after a bit of advice on what springs I should fit on my Mk1 Octavia RS hatchback replica that I'm about to put on the road. The car is a 2000 model 1.9 tdi GLX, and was completely standard when I bought it. It's now been fully converted to look the same as an RS: bumpers, boot lid, lights, grill, bonnet, wheels, and even the exhaust back box. I just need the ride height setting up - to look the same, or a tad lower, than that of an RS. I'm not going down the coilover route again, as I've had 5 yrs of that on my Mk4 Golf GT and I'm sick of bumping around nowdays. A lowering set of springs will be the next step, but do I go for 30, 35, 40, or 45mm drop to get the look, or as I said - a tiny bit lower, than that of a proper RS on standard Spider 17" wheels....? We do actually have a proper Mk1 RS, but I'm of the opinion that I can measure the gap between tyre and arch all week long, but it won't tell me what spring drop I need to go for to get the look, given age, miles, wear and tear etc etc - if that makes sense? Any help would be most appreciated please. As I said, I don't want it sitting on the deck, and want it to look as close to the real deal as possible, so sensible advice welcome! Thank you for your time. Paul. Pic attached of the car when I bought it. Not looking at all sporty
