  1. Ever wish you'd never started a post????? Now I'm being accused of being a bad driver, unable to see and avoid potholes, not being able to understand that parts on older cars wear out etc. etc. My whole point is that I looked into the Skoda Superb in great detail before purchase. The car has full service history, last serviced 7 weeks before I bought it when it had 68K on the clock. I made sure that any replacement belts had been renewed. I also asked questions on this site re reliability and the response was 100% positive. I have had the car now since 21/07/17 and have only completed 5000 miles. I am a 61 year old man who does not push his cars and really looks after them, so much so that I had the gearbox serviced on the Superb as soon as I bought it. My mechanic has looked after my cars for over 10 years now and is very highly rated - I would never go to a main dealer to get work done as they rob you blind - he is a German car specialist so with Superbs being extremely similar to Passats he has absolutely no problems working on my car. As I have stated I only had the car for 9 weeks when the first brake caliper seized, causing replacement of that and pads, I was very fortunate that the disc had not warped. less that 10 days later another brake caliper seized, this time damaging the disc causing replacement (the caliper could be saved as per Uncle Arnold Clark). I have now had to spend just over £1000 on this car in 10 months. More than on any vehicle I have owned for such a short period of time in my whole 39 years of driving. As has previously been mentioned in this stream by Italian Job, If I can't come onto this site for a good old moan, where can I go. I feel we should be encouraging not slagging people off for making comments!!!!! Remember my car passed it's MOT 6 weeks previous WITH NO ADVISORY NOTES.
  2. In response to hwr... My car is a Nov 2008, but has only done 74K miles 1. I take my cars to a German Autocare Specialist, who has the reputation of being the best mechanic in my area 2. I always look after my cars as they are needed for my work and had the car fully inspected on purchase last July and my mechanic has had it for several other faults that I did not mention in my first post. I threatened to return the vehicle as 'not fit for purpose' and Arnold Clark fixed a lot of problems when it was out of their 60 day warranty (brake caliper, disc, head infotainment unit) because I kicked up such a stink!! 3. Personally i would never buy a warranty as I have had one in the past and despite fighting like hell with the owning company could NEVER get anything repeaired under it. 4. I have always owned used cars so know all about the wear and tear, my point was it passed the MOT 6 weeks ago with no advisory notes and suddenly the whole front brakes need replacing!! 5. I expect to replace springs due to the road conditions and would need to specify to the local Council which pothole caused the spring to break and report it before the repair. I did not know it needed a spring until my mechanic got it up on the ramp (no knocking noises). I do not normally 'rant' on this type of site but i am so p****d off spending hard earned money on this vehicle that I am already looking to replace....
  3. Thought Skoda cars were among the most reliable vehicles on the Road? After my fiasco with 2 brake calipers seizing on last year within weeks of each other my car flew thru its MOT at the end of February with only a rear spring (potholes) and NO advisory notes. Only for me to have to spend £300 yesterday putting new discs and pads on the front and the other rear spring (I know, potholes). Honestly I have had this car since July last year and have only put 5000 miles on it yet it has cost me more than any other second hand car I have ever owned. Reliable my backside, time to get rid of methinks!! Rant over
  4. .......at nearly £65 for a new bulb I just replaced the pink one as there is no discernible difference in the remaining light and new one. Here's hoping I get a wee break between replacing both....
  5. Yeh mate, have ordered 2 thanks....
  6. Hi Danny, thanks for the advice. I have to be honest and say that I've had more problems with the Superb in the last 6 months than I've ever had with a car - 2 x brake calipers + discs + pads, Columbus head unit malfunction, headlight washers malfunction, new rear spring for the MOT - that said it's a beautiful car to drive. Very comfortable and smooth and plenty of power if required. If I could get a few months of trouble free motoring it would make the experience a lot more satisfying - and save me a few bob!!
  7. Hi Guys, Latest wee problem is a headlight that looks more pink than white - any ideas?
  8. Hi Guys, My headlight washers have stopped working for whatever reason and I've read this is a MOT failure: - 1. Any ideas how to repair this and 2. Surely it's not a MOT failure?? Thanks, as always....
  9. Can anyone recommend a decent battery???
  10. Hi Linni, Yeh I've got hands free facility in the car, that's why I don't understand why it won't work?
  11. Hi, My Columbus RNS510 was upgraded to a newer version by the dealer I bought the car from due to a "white screen of death" issue. The new system have the voice control facility, but it does not seem to work, any suggestions?
  12. To be fair Mark it was never a question if you try I g to 'Ron's me, I simply asked a question on the site. I also contacted you direct to say that the full remap was not off the agenda but I just wanted you to explain to me why it required a full remap when I'd been advised by a Skoda garage that it could have been reflashed. You did not get back to me. I have actually recommended you to other owners as I believe you do a very professional job and you're a nice, polite fella to boot@!
  13. My mechanic says that it would have been obvious to the guy who put on the last pads that the caller was going, so bad were the rubber seals. And who last fitted them I hear you ask, our own Arnold Clark - it was the specific brake pads that they use!!!
  14. Hiya, I had some problems with the running of the car last night, including reduced mileage and stuttering performance. My mechanic has just called to say that the front nearside caliper siezed on completely burning thru the pads and sensor - hence no warning!! Still waiting to hear about the bill and it'll be a sore one as the car is just out of showroom warranty. This is not something I expected from a Skoda Superb at all as they get the reputation of hardly ever going wrong so I just wondered if anyone else had suffered in the wallet/purse due to this problem?
  15. It was a company called 5 star remapping in Glasgow. The lad, Mark, was very polite and very knowledgeable...
  16. Hi Guys, Looking for some expert advice.... I had my car remapped by a company recommended on the Forum and was left a bit bewildered by the result, in that I did not really notice the extra oomph as expected. The car had to go into a Skoda garage last week due to a Columbus head unit problem and the garage contacted me to say that the car was one of the models caught up in the emissions 'scandal' and they could fix it. I was caught unawares and, thinking it was a legal requirement, gave the go ahead. It was only the next morning that I realised that this may affect the ECU and contacted the garage to find out it was too late. The technician I spoke to said that if I contacted the company again they would be able to do the remap again for a reduced price. I contacted the lad and he said yeh, he could do it for £100 as I already owned the software invvolved and it would only take 30 mins to "re-flash" the ECU. He then called me yesterday and said that he would have to contact Volkswagen for a code and that would cost me £25 , but worse than that he would have to do a full remap again at the full price on top of that!!! I am not sure if this is right and don't believe I should be paying the full price again PLUS this £25 for a code from Volkswagen??? Can anyone please advise? One more wee thing, the memory on my seat has stopped working, I saw on an earlier topic that there is a technique to reset it which involves putting the seat all the way forward, then the rear of the seat all the way up, then the seat fully forward again until I her a 'boing'. What does it mean the rear of the seat all the way up?? Cheers
  17. Found this on eBay: - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Bluetooth-Handsfree-Kit-1K8035730D-9W2-For-VW-Volkswagen-RCD510-RNS510-/262872269051?epid=1343810039&hash=item3d346880fb:g:UL8AAOSwx6pYs~BD Lots of wiring harness, which will put me off - unless it's as easy as previously stated where it is just a plug and play type replacement??
  18. Hi Chimaera, had a very quick look on Google and found a comoatible rSAP BT module with WiFi Hotspots - it was €279 . Probably got what you're saying wrong.....
  19. Thanks mate, but not too technically minded so wouldn't know how to do that....
  20. Thinking of getting newer head unit so will see if that helps....
  21. Not sure as I'll have this on my rns510 as the car is Nov 2008 model, but will check thanks
