  1. You can tell the car to put the wipers in the clean/replace position when you're turning the ignition off - if you remember. Something like press down on wiper stalk just after you turn the ignition off.
  2. Just realised my phone wouldn't work in this way. I have the dual SIM Galaxy S9 and the dual SIM version does not support RSAP. Oh well. I prefer having both personal and work SIM in a single phone and don't have the SIM slot in the Columbus unit anyway.
  3. In the latest online PDF of the manual it's page 163. Note your mobile needs to support the Bluetooth rSAP profile for my suggestion to work. (Note I said rSIM but it's rSAP - Remote SIM Access Profile)
  4. I don't need Internet access in my Superb often but something else I've tried is using a Macro to enable the wifi hotspot on the phone when the car connect over Bluetooth. Another macro disabled the hotspot when the car disconnects. The car has a WiFi connection configured for both my home WiFi and phone hotspot. So within a short space of time my Superb's Columbus system has Internet access. I stopped using this because it's rarely needed and usually just enable/disable hotspot manually for longer journeys and plug the phone into the USB socket for power. Then I can get TomTom traffic updates on the Columbus but also quickly switch to Android Auto for Google Maps. It doesn't take up too much data - not really measured on a long journey. But I've even let it update the maps over my 4G connection but then I have 25GB data a month to use.

If it has the SIM slot (which is standard on Columbus now) then it also supports the rSAP profile which means it can take over the SIM in the phone for a data connection and for phone calls etc. It does mean the phone itself loses the ability to connect to the phone network itself. If you have a good data plan then this is a cheap option and it's what I'd do I'd upgraded to the version of Columbus with a SIM slot (it was not standard in 2017). You could always share out the data connection so the phone connected via WiFi but you shouldn't be reading emails whilst driving 🙂
  6. If you have a good data plan on your mobile you can use the rSIM profile in the car's Columbus unit to take control of the SIM for calls, texts and data. All it should be doing is grabbing traffic data (sourced from TomTom). It shouldn't automatically download map updates which of course are quite large and best done over wifi or using a USB stick or SD Card.

  8. A dealer won't be much help sorting this out. Sounds similar to the problem I had. Maybe the updates they are doing will fix your problem when they reset their systems. Took about 2 weeks for them to work out the problem with mine. Mine is still working. Even used it to double check location of my car when I'd parked for a football match the other day and didn't know for sure the route back. Even tried flashing lights as I approached which worked also.
  9. Can you not connect to Skoda to check status of car etc.? Mine is working. It did stop a few months ago and it needed a reset on the Skoda servers which took them a while to work out.
  10. You can close windows (and probably panoramic roof) by pressing the lock button and keep holding it. I think you need to enable somewhere whether you want just driver window or all to open when you press the open button on the key. The roof wouldn't' open.
  11. You can alter how the car is configured in terms of steering assist/feel, accelerator, gearbox (DSG only), air-con, suspension (DCC only) etc. There are ECO, normal, sport and custom modes. Switching between them used button on the transmission tunnel plus the touch screen.
  12. Even if you have it plugged into the USB cable, the phone connection is via Bluetooth unless using Android Auto surely?
  13. I have had this engine and gearbox in two cars now - this Superb and an Audi A3. I do not experience this noise and in 2 cylinder mode gear changes is just as smooth and quiet as when in 4 cylinder mode.
  14. I think it's deliberate to restrict the engine using the throttle as it is on the 220PS engine. On the 1.4TSI 150PS engine the throttle is fine without any changes. I would wager it's to make it easier to pass emission tests with lower recorded CO2 figures.
  15. Not as a company car because of BIK being based on emissions. Overall cost per month for an L&K would be more because I'd have had to have had a 2.0TSI. I did not want a diesel.
  16. I don't have Kessy but got into my petrol Superb the other week and tried to start it.... Nothing. Tried 2 or 3 times and it did nothing. Took key out and tried again and it worked... I shall be monitoring. I know it some cars where you've had keyless start/entry deactivated (or the battery in the key is flat) you need to hold the key near the starter button and press it. This is what I would have had to put up with if I'd got a Mazda6 in 2014 because relative had pace-maker and the Mazda manual had a warning about pacemakers and could not find out more... and you couldn't take the risk then could you.
  17. My previous phone was a Galaxy S6 and connectivity with Android Auto was hit and miss. I tried a few cables and sort of gave in - suspected the phone. Swapped phone earlier this year to a Galaxy S9 and it works consistently. And works with the cable I had with the S6 with the addition of a Micro USB to USB C convertor. So it must have been the phone?? Or a SGS6 didn't get on with the Columbus unit via Android Auto.
  18. The image above of an Audi A3 with that gear knob looks little different to what the car ships with. I know because I had one for 3 years before I got the Superb. I agree the DSG and DSG/4x4 lettering looks naff.
  19. Thanks for sharing your views and opinion. When I had the SE L Executive with the 220PS engine and DSG as a demo car (had it for a week) I found like many it has a reluctance to accelerate unless in sport mode. I was getting it as a 1.4TSI if I got it anyway. My previous car was a 1.4TFSI S-Tronic A3 Saloon so I knew how that drove. And even in ECO mode it was more willing to accelerate than the 2.0TSI Superb in any mode other than sport (or you really floored it). I could hope from A3 to Superb to compare how it seems because of the lengthy demo. And then when I got the Superb with the 1.4TSI 150PS engine I thought it accelerated fine and not feeling it was holding back.... I still think the 2.0TSI is meeting emissions standards by restricting power. I too thought a car as well equipped as the SE L Executive should have front and rear sensors (it does now) and I wanted those but being so wide I wanted the side sensors too so when for Park Pilot (and it works well when used to park too). I also upgraded to Dynamic Chassis Control (had it on a Passat CC), and then wanted blind spot monitor/cross traffic alert and a few other options. Think I added about £5k to the list price! I'd order again providing the face lift does not ruin the looks like the updated Octavia had done. And I'd likely consider the PHEV variant - nearly got a Passat GTE in 2017 but the Superb was more practical, more room to get in the back for a relative etc.
  20. For Skoda Connected services it does not need a separate Internet connection - it has one of it's own. Infotainment Online services do need an Internet connection, either with the SIM in the unit in the glovebox or a WiFi hotspot. At the moment I have a problem with Skoda Connect in so much as the car is not connecting to Skoda's servers so the app and webpage do not show the current status, location, etc. But I had an email the other week about some security updates on the servers (it relates to S-PIN which isn't used in the UK). But it did have this: During the security update the ŠKODA Connect services may be unavailable for a short period of time. Please accept our apology for this inconvenience. The email was dated 26/11 and I've not got an update from the car to Skoda Connect servers since around 16/12. I have been in touch with Skoda UK service desk and it is being looked into.
  21. If you let the Columbus unit connect to the Internet (e.g. WiFi Hotspot on your phone) then it will download traffic data from TomTom. But for this you need the Infotainment Online subscription.
  22. Those sensors are just in the side of the bumpers but give coverage alongside the car. I'm not sure I'd want to pay for the blind-spot/rear traffic alert to be retrofitted. But I got that too on the factory order and it was then only £100 extra for Smart Light Assist.
  23. It is a big car hence why I wanted not only front sensors (which I think were £390) but thought Park assist with the 4 side sensors would be useful.
  24. Is the £554 the cost for front sensors only...? That's quite expensive. I wanted at least front sensors on the SE L Executive (which were extra when ordered) so I went for park assist to also get the side sensors. Shows how factory order options can be better value I think. The Park Assist was £590 when I got it.
  25. Also as said I think the rear wiper is needed for the rear view camera (must have a way of cleaning the lens).
