  1. I’ve had some issues with the air con for some time now and the self test keep coming up with the 4FA code which is the V71 recirc motor. My issues are no cool air at all and a strange whistling noise from under the bonnet. However I don’t think these relate at all to the V71. Does anyone think its it’s worth changing the V71 if it seems to be working? I can select recirc and it clearly motors and changes the airflow with none of the nasty noises other people have explained so I’m sure it’s fine. However if it is sending some dodgy electrical nonsense that it shouldn’t be, could it stop the air con from working? Im bored of this fault now but don’t want to just throw money at the thing. Could be compressor, could be V71, could be some other sensors somewhere. Boring. Marcus
  2. Ha yeah it seems they didn’t feel the need.. even during that insane summer heat.
  3. Hi guys, I have just bought back my old Octavia vrs and it still has the same issue it has had for years. With the the climate control unit turned on it seems to sort of squeal and whistle. It’s an external noise so nothing in the cockpit. Along with this, the air con will not cool. It just blows ambient or hotter air around. I’ve had it regassed and there were no leaks at all. I’ve also swapped the climate unit for one from a friends car and it’s not that. Should I guess next that it’s the compressor? Thanks guys. Marcus
  4. Hi Guys, I have just re bought my old mk1 Octavia VRS. Fingers crossed I’m in a better position to keep it a bit longer this time. Hopefully I’ll be able to come running to you lot for fixed and niggles should I get any... (I know I will, and already have). Cheers guys Marcus
  5. Ok so I've just been out and swapped the climatronic unit for a know good one from a friends car and it made no difference at all. We then had both cars running and set to LO in AUTO mode and the pipes to my cockpit don't get anything like as cold as the other car. They are slightly cooler than ambient I'd say but my mates pipes were covered in condensation within a minute and icy cold even though his car has never had a re-gas and its a 52 plate. So what would cause that?
  6. Yeah this is exactly what I've been saying. I can't see that the recirc motor or flap can stop the system from making cold air.... so what's the problem? Its doing my nut in. Do we reckon it's worth swapping the unit out for another one that's known to work correctly? Im not sure if there's a sensor to detect temperature in the car that's not reading correctly or something.
  7. Yeah I think you may be having the same issue as me then. I've still had no joy with it. I was going i swap the climatronic unit out for a friends and see if it made any difference.
  8. Yeah I'm not really worried what tow bar it is other than preferring a removable one but I guess I was more interested in finding one that has more simple wiring. It seems this mk4 golf adapter would be the best option but I can seem to find them for sale??
  9. Ok guys forgive me if I'm being thick but surely no matter what position the recirc motor of flap is in, it should still pump cold air around? As in proper cooled air?? It doesn't block the cold feed off does it?
  10. Yep compressor cuts in and out and both fans run when the unit is turned on.
  11. Unfortunately it doesn't seem as if finger trouble is the problem in my case. The recirc motor and valve don't grind ot slip. It sounds pretty smooth. It does change to hot when I request it to so it works that way. Back to the drawing board I guess but thanks for your input.
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I cycled through the codes and it was the only fault on the system apparently. Just seems odd as I can hear the motor moving when I select the recirc button. Anyway I'm assuming that from your post Yellowages that a post with a nice easy fix for this fault is imminent ?? If so could you do it now? Lol. I hate not having the air con and my window regulator isn't arriving for a few days. Cheers.
  13. Oh I see. That sounds like a better idea than having to use them scotch lock things. Any idea why it's only the mk4 gold that uses it? Also do you know which wires it is that need swapping around? Good info that.
  14. Hi guys. Just sifting through the minor fault list on my newly purchased VRS and I'm on to the air con. Its a mk1 Octavia vrs with the Climatronic unit. Ive read plenty about people's air con not working very well but don't seem to have come across a fix for it. I went to a VW specialist yesterday (a friends garage) and he did a re gas and some sort of purge that took around 10-15 mins but this made no difference at all. I carried out the test using the 2 buttons on the unit and came up with 4FA 00 as a code. Just before I open the flood gates of knowledge I'll say that I'm fairly sure the recirc valve is motoring but there is just ambient temp air coming from the vents. The compressor is engaging and as I said it's had a full regas. So any ideas? With my drivers window regulator not working either, I'm getting rather warm at the moment. Cheers guys.
  15. Ah ok so it's not a no no for towing then. That's a good start. I've fitted plenty of tow bars before but they're often hit and miss as to wether they actually fit nicely. When you say a golf wiring adapter... what do you mean and what makes it Oe? I know modern cars have a plug in unit that's inline with the standard loom at a plug break. That'd be nice but I'm assuming this is old school chopping wires by the tail lights? Thanks for the reply by the way. Marcus
