  1. Have no problem with loss of power steering but can anyone tell me if I have a 'stop' missing as no problem turning right but on left full lock its as though its going too far and it grates and seems as though its locking the wheel. Ease off a little and no problem.
  2. too true- but car has sat on the drive for a week as am beginning to hate it
  3. Yes that sounds a good idea, but they look not far from stripped so might be better getting the track rods replaced
  4. As far as I can tell they seem pretty even but the threads are hardly there anymore-they seem worn/rusted. Thy tyre tread on the inside edge of the drivers side is worn down. I can envisage adjusting the rods could be difficult with worn threads on the rods,
  5. That is what I am going to-car passed an MOT 2000 miles ago with no advisories.
  6. Exactly my thoughts. I have only had it about 3 weeks and knew it needed a CV joint and as it turned out a wheel bearing. These were fitted by the garage. But when they gave it me back it drove straight (with hands - off) but steering wheel is at ten-past. On full left lock it loses it as it were. Think heard one of them mumbling about adjusted that side only track rod as other side was seized. Reckon they just cannot be bothered with it and are using the past accident damage as an excuse. Surely they could replace the other track rod anyway!!
  7. My Fabia 1.4 MPI gas now officially been labelled THE CRAB after the local garage giving up on wheel alignment after fitting a new passenger side hub. I know the car was in an accident in 2011 on that side but they say the body must have been straightened with a bent hub in place. Now it 'goes too far' when on full left lock and gives a wind-up symptom with a grating noise. Does this make sense?
  8. Well the car returned today from the local garage with the story that they could do nothing as it was all down to a previous accident in 2011. They say the car was re-aligned to a bent hub and now that a straight one has been fitted it turns too far when on left lock!! Yarn or not? If not could a new bearing be put in the bent hub?
  9. That's true. It's going back later today or tomorrow. Have just taken it out for a test run . Could live with not straight steering wheel but major fault is turning left on full lock-its as if it disengages drive for a second or two and is 'forcing' itself-back-off the lock a bit and it is fine. Wonder if it dragging the right wheel at full lock. Rest of the time-turning right, straight ahead, not full lock turning left its drives ok
  10. Have phoned local garage back and they are taking another look in the next couple of days. It was crashed in 2011 and p-assed it MOT no bother since. Last one was only 2000 miles ago with no advisories. Think they now are trying to blame the driveshaft and hub I got from a breakers. We will see. Perhaps I have been lucky in the past buying cheap cars but if nothing changes I will have to stop this cheap one becoming expensive.
  11. Yes they can't have fitted the brakes back properly. I do know it was banged on the front left in 2011 and repaired but my garage man cannot get the tracking right and says its a crab. But it did not have the steering wheel at ten past before it went there nor did it start locking up when turning left. Obviously they have not done the job correctly but admit they are defeated. Am loathe to give them the car back as clearly they are incompetent . Car cost me £175 off ebay so expected a couple of hundred to sort it but now becoming more expensive than value-hence its probable extinction!
  12. Can't confirm as entrusted job to a local garage but it seems a possibility. To be honest, am sick of this car and seriously considering scrapping it
  13. I bought a complete driveshaft second-hand with cv joints in situ, mate,
  14. Its a 2002 car I bought a couple of weeks ago. It needed a driveshaft/cv joint and a wheel bearing/hub. Local garage fitted but now when steering wheel centred front left wheel (one worked on) points slightly outwards-hence with steering wheel at ten past position when going straight. Meets a significant force when approaching and at full lock only when driving -no problem when stationary. Think it is dragging the right wheel. Only bought it to replace wife's old 1998 Astra which needs MOT shortly. Not been a wise move it seems. Have operated 'Bangernomics) for years but think slipped-up with this one!
  15. yes it always will be but the annoying bit is having bought parts, had them fitted (clearly by an incompetent) and seem to be going down a narrow tunnel. Got away with a cheap purchase many times, only one other dire purchase was a 2.5 Subaru Legacy as head gasket went after a couple of months. Am sure the Fabia is a fine car -had a mate who had two but then changed to Kia C'eeds. Will keep trying a bit longer and thanks so much for your help. Up the Boro and Horden and Peterlee Rugby Club!
