  1. @Headinawayoffski Engine is a 1.2 htp Yes thanks for that, it helped a lot! Just an update, so did the 120 mile journey and made it there and back okish... Had 3 occasions, 2 on way there and 1 on way back. Of the 'limp' mode thing I mentioned a while ago on this post. But now it's clearer what's happening, before I go to a garage would be good if anyone has any ideas of the cause. So all 3 times I was driving about 60/70 (motorway and dual carriage ways). And I would be going a consistent speed at about 3000 revs for at least 10+ minutes. Then I would start slowing the car down and changing down gears. But the car would just lose power and start juddering. So each time I had to bring the car to a complete stop. Turn the engine off and back on. Then the car was fine? It's happened before but last time it happened it didn't then happen again for 2+ weeks. So seems that there is an issue when the cars been going a constant speed / rev range for a period of time and then is required to change the speed / revs any ideas? Also oil didn't seem to be an issue yesterday, but haven't checked it this morn so will update once I have thanks
  2. @xman the dipstick before the 'test' drive was just under area a and then when he came back it was almost under the hatched area. So was told that's a litre? Yes that sounds similar to our issue! Thanks for sharing that with me. I think my best bet is to continue what I started last week of monitoring the oil daily and checking to see if I am losing any. So far I hadn't for a week until that 'test drive'
  3. Ah sorry I thought you meant something else. That makes perfect sense. I just checked it and it's not been on for 3 hours and is sitting on the level in the correct position. (Area a). I did let him know it takes 2.8 litres so he knew not to overfill it. Thanks for your time on this guys. Fingers crossed for tomorrow
  4. @Headinawayoffski yeah he had checked tonight after he drove it and said it was 1 litre low I am not 100% sure, would it make a difference? Ok I drive sensibly to be fair. Definitely don't rev it high when not necessary etc
  5. @Wino @Headinawayoffski This evening has been very stressful ha. Mainly because thinking of alternatives to what I was going to do tomorrow. Yes @Wino still got 2.5 litres left. I was thinking of doing that idea. I thought as I've used it for a week and keeping it low revs and steady and not noticed an oil drop. Good idea on stopping half way so will do that there and back. Plus no motorways just A roads so can stick in the 'slow' lanes. @Headinawayoffski yes that is true. Yeah he said he used 30w. And what do you mean 1 litre low sorry? Ok will do, tomorrow's journey should be a test to be fair. Will let you know how it goes. And have been recommended a garage to go to if I need to.
  6. Had the mechanic out this evening. Since I topped up the car with oil last Saturday I've done about 30 miles of town driving. So low revs about 30/40mph. I've checked the oil daily and it's not dropped. The mechanic took the car out for a 6 mile drive and said he kept the revs high to test it. When he came back he checked the oil and it had lost a litre! He did some other checks such as taking the spark plugs out which were new 500 miles ago and they were contaminated with oil. Also said there is a bit of blue smoke so due to all of that the best bet is the valve oil seals may need replacing. Does that sound about right? Also was due to do a trip tomorrow of 120 miles so will be postponing that. Unless anyone thinks I can get away with it.
  7. @Awayoffski was that first question directed to me? If so I'm confused haha. I think the oil the mechanic used was 5w30 would this have made any difference? I'm not sure if recommended is only fully synthetic, I just went with the recommendations from here and online searches
  8. Thanks everyone for their input on this. I topped up the oil earlier today with some mobil 5w40 oil. It's now just under the max line, didn't want to risk over filling it. I took the car out for a drive this afternoon and checked the oil level again once the car had rested and so far the oil hasn't dropped. I'll continue to monitor it everyday until the mechanic comes to take a look, and going forward I think I'll check it on a weekly basis. Always been told to do that, but never had issues like this with cars or bikes in the past. I did check under the car and around he sump plug but can't see any leaks Hopefully the mechanic can give me the final verdic of what it is, will keep you posted. If anyone has anything else I can try etc feel free to let me know
  9. @Wino just double checked but yeah just the angle of the picture @moley thanks for the pics helped alot @fabia88 haven't checked that yet, but have briefly checked under the car and can't see any leaks. What do I need to tighten that up, and does it have to be tighten up to a specific torque? I just topped the car up with oil and it took nearly 2 litres!
  10. @Wino ah ok will check that out, just presumed there would be one as per the handbook. But guess that's pretty generic
  11. @Wino thanks mate, level on the dipstick is non existent. And no no history of anything repaired like that. I'm surprised the oil light hasn't flagged up yet
  12. @Wino cheers for that. Will see if I can draft in some help. Right ok that makes sense, that's good to know as wasn't sure if it was some sort of gasket that was exposed. Still baffled to where all this oil went. Theres no way I'm not reading the oil level correctly is there? I checked when the car was warm and I've checked this morning where the car hasn't been used since yesterday. And defo showing the oil is really low :/
  13. @Wino ok thanks for that! And not to sound like a complete novice. When taking the oil filler cap off, it looks like this. Is that correct? Thought it would be more of an opening if that makes sense? For the oil to go into, as was going to purchase a funnel to make it easier but don't think one will fit in there Also I've now noticed around he engine, there's bits of rubber exposed slightly. These are oily to touch, could this be the issue? (Such as in that picture to the right of the oil filler hole) and in the second picture where highlighted.
  14. @Wino thanks for that mate, afraid it's going to be a trip to halfrauds need to get it back at the right level today. Will order some of that site for a back up in the future though!
