  1. Thanks for the advice, job's done and wiper working again 😀 If I get chance from the PC later I'll post up some photos to help anyone who comes looking in the future.
  2. Hi all, I've done a few searches of the forums and youtube looking for rear wiper motor replacement on the superb estate. Loads of advice for other VAG cars but the interior trim seems to be unique to the model? I've got the wiper arm off (an exercise in itself) but now need to access the motor on the inside. The boot trim seems to be entirely clipped in place - no screws visible at all. Does anyone have a reference or link on how to remove the trim without destroying it? Mine has plenty of scratches from the years so the odd mark I'm not worried about. Just don't want to snap it off! Many thanks, Jon
  3. Snap ;) Did mine in 2017. Mine's a year older than yours and same mileage now. EGR was playing up, so I got the update done and then the EGR failed completely <24 hours after the update. They had it replaced no questions asked within a day or two. I've done > 40K miles since the update, and the car is still a joy to drive. It does regenerate more frequently, but I've got used to that now. The only thing I'd say is the car computer reports the MPG is 4mpg better than I am actually getting. I calculated real mpg by keeping receipts and noting mileage / calculating mpg for previous tank full at every weekly refill for many months. Almost all was motorway driving 450 miles per week. I do not know whether this mpg is worse than before the update, but my brain likes to tell me it is. So I'm probably paying back the cost of that EGR replacement in fuel now.
  4. Found this topic because I'd been suspicious of the car's reported MPG for some while. I've been brimming the tank and then calculating manually at each fill up against actual miles done (I get through a tank a week) and I'm actually getting 39-42mpg. Superb 2 with the DSG 175hp diesel. I drive 86 miles a day, 76 of which is on the motorway, often in heavy stop start traffic, or "giving it some welly" when it's clear. I know if I "hypermile" it behind a truck all the way to work I can get the trip computer (1) to read 60+ mpg so I'm well aware of the difference my driving style makes. If I don't do that it usually reads 44+mpg. The trip computer on (2) says that it's averaged 46mpg over the last 3000-odd miles. So the general annoyance here is that I'm REALLY getting about 5-6mpg LESS than the computer tells me. Wanted to see whether this was true for others and from comments on this thread, it seems like it probably is. I'd rather it told me the cold hard truth! I love my Superb but it drinks like a damned fish... it's too much fun and too comfy to drive very sensibly!
  5. D Did it stay working Zundap? Mine has just stopped and will be taking a look int he morning. Apparently there's a resistor for it under the glove box too, although so far I've only seen this listed as a cause for the 4-speed fan controller and mine has the climatronic automatic thing with more than 6 speeds.
  6. Sorry to post to such an old thread but it doesn't seem to have a resolution. Did you get to the bottom of it? 07 plate 1.9 Diesel DSG Automatic Octavia estate. 104,000, fully serviced, and full history. I've been intermittently having the same problem exactly as described above. First time it happened on motorway I called for recovery. Recovered to garage, however on road tests next day it ran perfectly! Couldn't find a fault and it passed its MOT same day with no problems! 300 good motorway miles went by over 3 days. Then it happened again. Second time I limped it to a services, let it sit for 15 mins, checked and added some oil (in hindsight I'm sure it didn't need this) and limped it home 30-40mph on the A roads. Next day - car absolutely fine again. Swapped cars with the wife and she's used it daily for errands for 3 weeks with not a single recurrence. Attempts at diagnosis: Non-main dealer who I've used and trusted for years thought it might be the flywheel, or possibly the gearbox. He doesn't have the tools to repair. Found an error code int he computer from the transmission about unexpectedly coming out of gear. Told me I'd have to go to main dealer. Main dealer couldn't reproduce, confirmed they'd seen the error code and had no clue. Said it wasn't economical to investigate further (gearbox strip down etc going to be >£800 excluding any parts they might need to fit if they could even figure out the problem) Looking at replacing it now, a shame as it's a lovely car and should still have many 1000s of miles to go (my last went to 220K!)
  7. Thanks for the tips all, needed them today. My wiper assembly was cleaned and lubed 2 or so years ago by a mechanic and has run fine since. Just starting to slow up and stick again so I lubed it myself with help from this article and the Haynes manual. Seems to be working smoothly again. One thing no one has mentioned here that happened after the first work I had done was that the garage did not clip down the scuttle properly on the outside edge nearest the mirror. The slot or groove it sits in was full of debris and it did not clip in fully. It was only the last inch or two which was proud. I never noticed. This allowed water ingress to the footwell from near the bonnet release lever and sent me all round the threads on water ingress. It had been months from the fix to the evidence of the leak, due to good summer weather, so initially I did not connect the two. When you've got the scuttle panel off, make sure the slot it fits in along the botttom of the windscreen is free from grease and debris. If not, clean it out with a toothbrush or something before refitting the scuttle panel
  8. Brilliant! I even had the right battery in stock in my spares box - that never happens! Always happy to look a bit of a pillock in public, I just wanted to say that when you test it, if the little red light doesn't flash... you might have put the new battery in upside down. I did, and it was only when I took the other key apart to double check this that I found out.
  9. Been getting exactly the same symptoms as sebulbus, then it went away for 10 days or so, then this weekend it's been back - worse. Most of the time if I switched the hazards on, they worked fine even if the stalk wasn't working. Tonight even switching the hazards on was being erratic. I've got a quiet day tomorrow so will see if I can pop the relay out to clean / check / replace. The haynes manual seems to have some tips, although I've seen more info just searching on this site
  10. I was really pleased to find this post. I've only had my 02 Octavia Estate for 2 months now and found this site last week to find out why the CD Changer was not working. The CD Changer posts mentioned water getting into the plugs from just this kind of leak. At the weekend I removed the CD changer and was unsurprised to find that exactly this had occured - unfortunately some time before I bought it. The wiring loom has been soaked for some time - the CD changer plug and wiring is a write off and the fact that the boot lighting and rear demister are also offline is probably the same cause. I removed the CD Changer and unclipped the wiring loom, hanging it on the CD Changer bracket to keep it dry for now. I dried out the bay and then ran the rear washer - no spray on window - then checked the rear well and it was about an inch deep in water - yuk! Unfortunately I didn't have a mate with me to run the washer while I watched where the water came from. That's a job for this weekend Returning to the site I quickly found this post linking to the Skoda repair reference. All I can say is wow and thanks - the Haynes Manual had nothing on this area. Whether I can fix it myself remains to be seen but even if not I know what to ask a garage to do - many thanks folks!
