  1. im not trying to troll, im mearly pointing out a few opinions, as its a forum, we discuss opinions. ether way, a forum is a place where you would assume the most novice of person will come and read, take as gospel and carry on about there business unknowingly doing something wrong, bad advice is bad advice think ill jus shut up an ill leave it at that tbh. paranoia much?
  2. 60 to 65 profile equates to around 1mph per 30... so at 70mph on the m25, you could quite easily trip speed cameras, so your "i wouldnt worry about it" is actually quite bad advice if your gonna change rolling circumfrance from stock, be aware of the change and DRIVE WITH THIS IN MIND as there is ZERO allowance for speeding. 31mph in a 30 is speeding. fact, unless you can prove otherwise (in a way that would be recreatable in court) without throwing round insult after insult
  3. i did read the post. wrong tyre size = wrong displayed road speed = SPEEDING. an offence. leading to points. your terying to say speeding does not always mean an offense.. and thats WRONG.
  4. this is people spreading myths that basicly lead people to belive speeding is ok. its not. the 10% rule is NOT aknowledged by the police/any court. sorry if im mistaken, ive asked someone to provide me LEGISLATION stating im incorrect in my assumption. the law is the law. people follow yourt advice will emnd up with points fines and expensive insurance. people following my advice have written evidence acceptablke by a court/judge. do we use guidelines in court? this topic is about tyre sizes. if you fit bigger tyres, your car will display a LOWERT speed, thus, you will UNKNOWINGLY be going faster than 30mph when yopur clock reads 30. your telling people this is ok. based on your assumption. who is trolling here? i belive that would be you, negligently informing people that "its within limits" and you CANT provide PROOF of YOUR claim. this WILL result in speeding tickets. your forum post is inadmisable evidence. if your gonna give out POOR advice, try back it up with facts/not call out anyone who disagrees as a troll. the p[olice/judges/solicitors do NOT agree with you
  5. im new so logic, law and fact dont count? why am i being a ****? im simply trying to get to the bottom of an issue thats quite clearly in black and white. law and guidelines are not the same thing
  6. find me this "guideline!" in admissable form.... courts dont enforce guidelines.. nor do the police *unless acting negligently) these guidelines arte the only mention of any percentage based aloowance, this is down to measuring equiptment tollerance. so the speed camera has to be accurate within blah blah.. calibration certificates, thus fit for perpous. this does NOT mean you, the end user. the speed limit is 30, you may do 30mph.. actual speed. no more. again, more accurate speeding measuring devices give out fines for 33mph in a 30.. and there is NO legislation that exempts you from this in court. just guidelines for how the police are ADVISED to police these issues. its really quite simple. go ask a copper/judge/solicitor if your gonna use it as an excuse. the excuse better be in writing and admissable as evidence/accepted as LEGISLATION not ADVICE or it is worthless. so again, can someone provide proof/actual written legislation stating we can exceed the speed limit by 10%? as i cant find any. all i can find is calibnration and tollerence for measuring equiptment giving any percentage based variable. 30mph is 30mph
  7. the highway CODE is the act used as law in england.. but is still open to interpritation/local legislation. i literally have a letter from my local council stating what parts they do and dont enforce! the acpo are a bunch of police who formed a PRIVATE organisation to try and privatize and regulate/standardize how policing takes place as TOO MANY police choose to interpret the law. the road traffic act 1991 is in use today and clearly defines speeding as "traveling in excess of the speed limit".. meaning 31mph is speeding. can we stop spreading these unlawfull rumors about an allowed percentage? its nowhere in LAW. the road traffic act is what outlines offenses. its what the POLICE use as a rulebook for motoring. nothing else!
  8. look, guidelines are NOT laws.. there guidelines by a 3rd party. much the same as most employment "law"... its a guide, not mandate. the law is quite simple. 30mph is 30mph
  9. any links/pictures of the tool needed? could probably do with front bearings soon as the last ones were fitted a few years back/recipts seem too cheap for decent parts also, im assuming this can be done without removing the entire hub and strut? just pulling the drive shaft out the back and using the tool in situ?
  10. get out on the road with satnav/gps speedo, sit at 30 clock speed, if the gps reads 60 at 60, its accurate, if not then you can ether sticker up the original speedo dial or just plain remember where 30/50/60/70 actually is on your dash. remember, with diff tyreas, the faster you go, the more inaccurate the clocks will be, so 30 is usually unaffected with a simple tyre change. ive had scooters that will do 65 with an 80 profile tyre but not get past 40 with a 60 profile! tyres/wheel size can make a MASSIVE difference!
  11. its a myth. speed awareness courses advise you do the SPEED LIMIT. speedos are accurate these days, there is NO allowed percentage. 30mph is 30mph!
  12. spend a week befor any of this kind of work randomly spraying things with penetrating fluid... i literally spray daily for a week ebfor even attempting any brakes on a 5+ year old car LOL
  13. ok, plot thickens. the fan spins when bridged in ether speed setting. what the hell is going on here? could the NEW fan control switch also be at fault, or am i just not being brave enough letting it get up to temp?!?!? i lift the bonnet and its hot to the point i would expect to see a fan spin, the blowers are boiling hot (im assuming these get heat befor the radiator) i can smell the oil heating up/usual hot engine smell. and still no fan! so, am i just being over cautious? really dont fancy a head skim/gasget
  14. will bridge it in the morning and see what happens, im assuming the fan is at fault at this point. no stranger to a soldering iron so a resistor swap would deffo save me the cost of a new fan. cheers again for all the help
  15. didnt know if it was this way round (kinda assumed) or if it had 2 powers and a single to the fan. its too dark to do anything past look at fuses as its parked on a dark road outside my house. ill have a scratch about in the morning and see what happens. if no spin im assuming fan, would there be anything else in this circuit or is the power in a constant ignition live?
  16. i was half tempted to jam a nice bit of wood between the other few pullys and the strut tower side but didnt wanna risk it. might even buy a budget hoist if needs must, cheap enough and the engines only light
  17. and of course, the the crank seal i thought would leak as a sign (as yours seems to be? ) and mines dry as a bone. engines just on 51000 mind, the car was sat for atleast 2 years and had very little use/long rest periods its entire life... so chasing my tail a little fixing everything on what is otherwise an amazing car for its year!
  18. my thinking also, already have one to fit. literally thought "its only one top mount, the engine shouldnt go anywhere"... WRONG LOL im used to bigger engines or mini's tbh. any tricks for keeping the engine secure or is a hoist the only option?
  19. yup, only fuse 8 fitted as non ac car. fuse is fine, suppose id better try bridging the plug on the fan control switch. do you know off the top of your head the colours to bridge to simulate the control switch in both possitions? dont have a good diagram to hand and havve no idea what does what/what if anything i could blow/burn. cheers for the reply
  20. finally got the part from vw (as the one i ordered online was NOT at all correct, i discovered this by trying to FIT IT grrrr) anywho. part is installed. still squeeking, must be waterpump? bought one anyway as there cheap as chips/easy enough to fit (LOL) need a hoist to hold the engine up while i change it. AND the pulley needs to come off BEFOR removal, talk about narrow fun. yay. unless anyone has a trick to hold the engine up/kinda safely without falling all over the place) while i swap out the pump. if not the pump then what else? alternator seems fine when spun by hand, altho not under load, and works as should/looks in tip top condition. could it be the crank seal? never known a seal to squeek, but theres a first time for everything. Cheers for the offer, but i used mole grips and a nice knurled socket in the end. there really is no place in this world for SMOOTH SHINY sockets! LOL thanks again all
  21. ok, so i got lots of help last time so will try again. im sure this has been covered a few times so i appologise for being lazy with my search, im sorta scratching my head with this now. ive changed the thermostat, temp sender AND radiator fan switch already as the guage wasnt working. now, the fan HAS worked befor now (summer in traffic) altho the gauge worked back then. so, is there a module/controller somewhere im missing?> i thought the 3 wire fan switch would be all this needs, but becausevaginit. so the engines deffo getting hot as i can smell it and i did a fair bit of sitting in traffic for a few hours yesterday but i ddint trust it to go much past the half way on the dash as it crept up, i would turn the engine off/have the blower going FULL BLAST. no matter what time of year it is, thats a bad thing to have to endure for 11 hours driving. so to save me cooking the head gasget trying to see if the fans would come on, whats happened. as it worked a few weeks ago befor my gauge went up the wall and i discovered the usual f&^%$d thermostat so, if anyone could shed some light/maybe a skoda diagram for it as the haynes is CRAP for my model basicly. its a 2000 1.4mpi 8v aqw engine thanks all
  22. hello all, i drive a silver w reg fabia and im in the gloucester area. any other car mad nutters in the area?
  23. beautiful!! part ordered. and THANKYOU for letting me know its a LHT!!! i would have seriously killed it/needed a helicoil if you hadnt informed me it seems this is an incredibly generic part used by lots of manufactors!! and yes, the part number is in place but half had been scratched off!!!! all these supposed mechanics who have worked on this car in the past should be shot. brake pins rounded, thermostat housing glued... you name it! its a 47k mile car with few owners and all serviced by "reputable" mechanics... she has a good home now! thanks to all once again. been an amazing help
  24. as you can see, this literally has a single bolt to the engine, no groves, just a roller pulley and a bearing.
