  1. Looked to me like the gearbox topup plug hadn't been out in a LONG time, if ever. So I don't know how many of the 70k miles it's been leaking for. The car was also jacked up at the front, as the gearbox filler is on the front, I suspect I've over filled it a little and it probably hadn't lost all of the 400ml. im in 2 minds although if it's not a big job, I'll probably go for it at the nxt oil change.
  2. Sounds like I'll have a go at doing it, as it's planned to be doing some miles When i I phone around for the parts (including the replacement bolts) is it the "end plate" or is there a proper name ? ta
  3. Sounds like it might be worth sorting then......especially if it's just a few bolts and a new gasket (after draining the gearbox) although, i I did think/read the gearbox took 2.5l of oil, so 400ml is more like 1/8 than 1/4? Hence I wasn't all that worried. i'll be keeping an eye on it as I don't really know what duration/mileage this 400ml was lost over. ta
  4. Ok so don't really know the right terminology, I've got an oil leak from the passager side end of the gearbox on my 1.9tdi mk1 Fabia. the under tray is quite stained on this side of the engine bay, although no significant puddles, just "wetting" of the collected dirt. i've been keeping an eye on it for the past few weeks, having cleaned up that side of the gearbox. It seems to be leaking from the gasket on the underside of what I'd describe as the "end plate" bolted onto that side of the gearbox. (Painted black pressed mild steel plate, not cast) Topped up the gearbox oil today with around 400mls, I'll be keeping an eye on the level. gut feeling is that it's not worth worrying about, I've pinched up the bolts tighter on the underside edge of the "end plate". anyone else suffered the same thing? Any idea if it's worth sorting? ta in advance
  5. Just bought myself a (fairly) low mileage 70K 1.9TDI 100 HP elegance. Looks like its been looked after, I've just changed the oil for shell helix and the full cambelt kit (including water pump) is being sorted at the main dealers tomorrow. Its stupid question time..... I'm looking for this mota to be my 160 mile a day daily-driver and really just want it to go the distance, long term. I've got no problems with changing the oil every 10K, not driving it hard (especially when cold), leaving it to run-on for 30 seconds before shutting off and basically plodding on the motorway @ an indicated 70 on cruise control. Is there anything else I've missed which would give me the best chance of having trouble free motoring until the 200K marK? are diesel additives a no no? best care advice for the turbo/pump/injectors? cheers in advance
  6. So, the obdkey dongle was delivered today, works out of the box. my elm327 dongle works in my wife's zafira tourer but not the Fabia. bizzare.
  7. I've read I need to use the KW1281 protocol which needs a WBH BT4/5 adaptor, is this right? (Not supported by elm327 chipset adaptors) or this one looks to support KW1281: http://www.obdkey.com/obd_orders.asp but £100 !
  8. Ok, thanks for the replies. tried with engine on, and just ignored on, no joy either way. factory radio. the BT dongle fires up and connects to my tablet. Torque connects to the adaptor but no comms to the ecu.
  9. Morning, I've been struggling recently with my "new" 06 plate 1.9TDI and trying to get it talking with an elm 327 Bluetooth dongle (and torque pro). The tablet and dongle have been used successfully on loads of cars more recently a Kia rio and zafira tourer. Both show the real time telemetrics on the torque dashboard. I've found some info online that seem to point towards the ISO 9141 protocol for the ODBII port on this car, but I cant get torque to connect to the ECU. https://www.outilsobdfacile.com/vehicle-list-compatible-obd2/skoda The dongle will connect, but the ECU connection fails. I've tried all of the various options in torque (choosing the protocol manually, fast comms on and off, 327 slow mode on and off, resetting app data etc etc). It seems that the ECU comms knocks the whole dongle off, looses BT connection and I have to start all over again. Never had this on any of the other cars I've tried it on. I've tried pulling the battery terminal off, just incase the ECU comms is locked out, but again no joy. does anyone have the specific torque setup they use for this car (its the 100HP 1.9TDI)? or any other general suggestions? I quite like torque itself, so if anyone has a verified working BT ODBII dongle for this specific car, I'd love to hear. much appreciate (in advance) for any help.
