  1. Mystery over, took it for a spin, heavy on the brakes, noise stopped. Must have just been a trapped stone, cheers everyone
  2. Only just heard this noise today, a scraping/squealing/grinding noise when turning a corner or round a mini roundabout. I drove 200miles yesterday with no noise at all, seems to be coming from the front wheel area, before o go jacking the car up in the rain and dark, any ideas what it could be? Had new front pads and disks a few months ago, so I wouldn’t expect it to be grinding pads, also it’s only when turning not when braking. Cheers
  3. Thanks for all the replies and the advice, but I have lived on a steep hill for years and I know the procedure for parking ie turn the wheels towards the kerb to prevent rolling and to park in gear. I was querying because the car will not hold itself in gear and jerked backwards. It appears the compression is not high enough in the little 1.2 engine so it’s something to be aware of. This seemed strange to me as I’ve never experienced it in over 20years of driving. Also thanks for telling me about the potential engine damage from the chain slipping of it rolls back, I really wasn’t aware of that. Cheers everyone
  4. I thought the gearing might be high so also tried leaving it in reverse. No goodness at all, ‘kangaroos gently down the hill’. Oh well, glad to hear that nobody else has answered ‘mine doesn’t do that!’ So we can live with it.
  5. It’s a bit strange that it’s the first car I’ve parked there which hasn’t been able to hold itself when parked in gear. Everything else I’ve had from 950cc Fiesta, 1.1 Fiesta and upwards has been fine, even when their handbrakes were useless. Cant be much compression at all in the 1.2 engine
  6. Morning guys I normally drove an octavia, but this morning I used my wife’s 2014 yeti 1.2 manual box. I parked on a fairly steep hill, car pointing up the hill, where I’d normally park my Octavia. When I learnt to drive I was taught to always leave the car in gear, in case the handbrake fails. I tried that with the yeti, parked in 1st, handbrake off. Released footbrake, let the engine hold the car in gear, then applied the handbrake. This has worked on a while range of cars over 20 years without fail. However, in the yeti it rolled back (more like jerked back) as the engine didn’t seem to have enough ‘hold’ of the car in 1st. Is this usual? im hoping it’s because it’s a heavyish car with a 1.2 which perhaps hasn’t got enough compression to hold it on a steep hill? Has anyone else experienced this or is it a trip to the garage? thanks
  7. Thanks for your help, much appreciated! £13 for the bolt, so £83 total for the whole spare wheel kit and tools, very happy with that
  8. Superb, cheers! This forum is great, I wasn’t sure if that was the correct part since it doesn’t specify compatibility, now assuming every VAG car uses the same one? thanks
  9. Evening all Managed to buy a genuine Octavia vrs 18” space saver wheel/tyre, plus jack, toolkit and foam insert for £70, never been used, from an almost new VRS that was written off. Pretty chuffed with that, didn’t fancy using the foam repair kit, only thing I’m missing is the black plastic retaining bolt to secure the wheel in the well. Any ideas of the part number? Cheers
  10. So after a few days it seems the vrs logo appearing on the headunit is completely random, unless anyone knows different? Unless it’s skoda ‘simply clever’ including a little game to keep us entertained when we turn our cars on
  11. Thanks for that, thought it might be a quirk. Regarding dial sweep - mine seems to to sweep every time I start the car
  12. Thanks for replying, I don't think the previous owner has changed it with vcds, I have seen the vrs logo a couple of times but there's no pattern to it. What im asking is when is it supposed to be shown? When the head unit is switched on or when the car starts? Ive already pressed the on/off button for a while to reboot the system, the vrs logo was displayed when it restarted but haven't seen it since.
  13. Recently bought a 2014 VRS TSI and really enjoying it. One thing that I can't understand is how/when does the bolero infotainment screen display the vrs logo? I've only seen it a couple of times. Should it come on when the car is started? When the head unit is turned on? thanks, great forum BTW
  14. Or even 'vagcom' -grrr predictive text
  15. Yes Gaz, you're probably right! It's a 2014 mark 3, I'm like a kid on xmas eve at the moment! Considering getting vagacom, are there many features that can be activated or added, or are they mostly already done on a vrs?
  16. Morning everyone, Excited to be collecting my 2014 Octavia VRS tomorrow, decided to buy the petrol version after a very impressive test drive yesterday! Nice to have a salesmen letting me put my foot down. Also bought a 1.2tsi Yeti a couple of weeks ago, also very impressed with that. I'll probably be posting on the yeti and octy forums. Previous car was a Honda CRV 2.2cdti, the octavia is pretty much the opposite end of the spectrum to this!
