  1. I'm in the same boat. Car caught fire 2 months ago, and is still driveable, but won't pass MOT when it's due in December. I've been offered a courtesy car to bridge the gap between MOT due date and new Octy delivery date, but I'm not sure this is something all dealers offer. Mine's come forward to BW48, so hopefully a nice Christmas present to myself.
  2. There are some Ts&Cs, but the upshot is that you can negotiate a lower cash price as per usual, benefit from any other discounts and promotions (though there seem to be exceptions, none of them apparently affect me), and instead of PX-ing your pre-2010 diesel, you can 'scrap' it and probably get a better price for it than if you traded it in the traditional way. A lot of pre-2010 disels have a pretty high mileage now and aren't generally in great condition so are often worth sub-1.5k anyways, so 3.5k against a shiny new vRS is generally a good deal for those who fall under that bracket. The bonus of the scheme for me is that there's no financial 'penalty' for having a car that is in awful condition or mechnically poor. Also, tentative build week 50. Provided that doesn't change, I'm looking at around 14 weeks from order to delivery. I'll take that. And damn, is there any colour the vRS doesn't look good in?
  3. Now that's how you milk that scrappage payout. I originally ordered a Quartz Grey, but SWMBO spotted a Race Blue one in the wild while were out and about, and insisted we get that colour instead... woe is me...
  4. "Wear and tear" as far as they're concerned. Despite the fact there was fire, they don't seem keen to go any further with it because it wasn't in the engine bay or cabin... I could probably push them and kick up a fuss over it, but in all honesty, it's probably best I don't claim on the insurance as I don't have GAP. I'lll only get a 2k-ish payout, whereas I can get 3.5k for it against an Octavia as part of the scrappage scheme and don't have to worry about ruining my NCB. Just means I have to cope with the burden of a shiny new vRS...
  5. Not a mechanic, so please bear with me as I butcher the explanation... DPF went up due to a failure in one of the exhaust gas pressure sensor hoses. I realise that it's supposed to get hot, but the flames spilling out of it took out the exhaust temp sensor and exhaust gas pressure sensor apparently, along with some damage to the DPF itself. Quoted 2 and a half grand to get it back working to a state where it will meet an emissions check - the car isn't even worth 2 in perfect working condition, so it's time to scrap it methinks.
  6. Thanks. Good to know what I'm up against. 13 weeks from ordering to build doesn't seem too bad though. My Vitara has to come off the road before December 1st (MOT is due, and fire damage means it's unlikely to pass), so that would only leave me without a car for 2 months-ish.
  7. Thanks! It was made a much easier decision when the Vitara caught fire... But yeah, I'm looking forward to getting my paws on it. Just got to get myself through the long wait times associated with buying a new vRS. Still not been given a build week from the dealer...
  8. Ordered myself a petrol vRS in Race Blue over the weekend, but the dealer hasn't given an estimated build week yet. How long before they normally contact you with the estimate?
  9. Hey folks, Name's Darryl. Long-time lurker-turned-member as I've finally decided to take the plunge, ditch my fire-damaged Vitara and treat myself to a new FL Octavia vRS, and figure that validates me becoming a Skoda forumite. I'll no doubt be bugging some of you with questions, so I apologise in advance. This is my first Skoda and also my first car purchase worth more than £3k...
