  1. Thanks. Ordered through the dealer. Although I like the idea of a brand new car, the extra car tax over 5 years knocks out half the discount I negotiated which is a bit of a ball ache
  2. I ordered a Sportline back in Jan , was told 9-10 month delivery time. The recent price increases will put the OTR price at over £40k by then. I assume I will get hit by the luxury car tax even though the OTR price in Jan was just under the 40k ( including extras). Is that correct? Could I potentially cancel that order if the dealer can source a few month old equivalent to avoid that scenario?
  3. This probably is old news but I only just found it. https://www.whatcar.com/awards/best-family-car/2018-overall-winner/skoda-octavia Pleasing to know that we have a well-regarded car!
  4. Im glad it's not just me who finds the voice control as useful a chocolate fireguard. My diction may not be perfect, but I'm from the Home Counties and it still won't understand a word I say. Does it work with a Czech dialect?
  5. My dealer thought it was the DQ200 but he didn't know! Anyway I've had the car 10 days and love it- not driven an auto for many years and am amazed by how imperceptible the gear changes are and the change from 2 to 4 cylinder running I was also very lucky to get it within a few weeks of placing my order, judging by the thread on build times
  6. I have a Huawei P9 lite and although I can download android auto to my phone, it does not link to my new Octavia , which makes it as useful a chocolate teapot. Googling it reveals this is an issue with Huawei, not Skoda. Got another year of my phone contract to run, irritatingly, but I won't get another Huawei although I like the phone itself, for this reason
  7. Thanks for all the replies and [mostly!] reassurance. Have to say the Skoda website is not at all clear about the differences and my knowledge of what goes under the bonnet is mainly limited to topping up the screen wash and oil, but the first I have heard about wet/dry clutches is this website! Will let you know how I get on, but I am wondering about the extended warranty now just to be on the safe side
  8. Thanks . I assume you are a magician or something !
  9. Btw i've no idea why I suddenly started shouting and can't change it back
  10. Just ordered my new Octavia, which I chose in a bit of a rush as my 11 year old Touran was stating to cost me what it was worth about every fortnight in repair bills, and I got a good deal via the Diesel Scrappage scheme. I test drove the 1.4 petrol DSG, and absolutely loved it, but went for the 1.5 petrol DSG, [a] thinking it might sound a bit better for resale in a few years, and the dealer could get it within the next decade! Getting excited about my first new new car for 15 years, I started googling and am a bit concerned as there are lots of comments about the reliability of DSG boxes. Also, irritatingly, the cheapest insurance quote goes up about 70 quid going from 1.4 to 1.5. Have I made a mistake? Should I see if I can change my mind and go for a manual after all/ the 1.4? Please help ease my troubled mind!
  11. now I've just reminded everyone of what used to pass as funny, glad to be part of the forum/ Skoda owners' community !
