  1. Carlson you were right about the weight of the alloy wheels. Couldnt believe how weak i was!!
  2. i purchased a set of 18" VRS style alloys for my present car, which has 16" twister alloys on it. I just fancied making the car stand out a little more is all. Been advised that the tyre size is 225/40/R18. And it's 8J wheels. So slightly wider than present alloys. Just concerned the tyres might foul something
  3. Hi has anyone fitted octavia style RS alloy 18" to their car? Any issues fitting? Thanks
  4. Just recently ordered an Estate SEL EXECUTIVE 220.with quite a few goodies in Magnetic Brown and was told delivery date approximately 14-16 weeks... but then it's a motabilty car, and i'm not too bothered about the waiting times
  5. hi...can anyone shed light on how to change the headlight beam for continental driving? Any info would be of great healp cheers
  6. i've driven a greenline superb for 2years now and i have had no issues what so ever with the dpf. Yes i've seen the gear change information change by seeing the arrow point downwards but i assumed it was something to do with the regeneration process, but as ive said no issues with it what so ever. I'd happily get another one, but the deposits on my wife's motability website for the same car is a touch too much sigh !!
  7. I wonder if the car had a name......like christine for example!!
  8. The good old days in my opinion...when one could actually afford to fill the tank up and do mechanical work on the engines!! Oh and they were pretty reliable too.Todays cars with informative warning lights i think worry people, and have taken the shine off motoring. I prefer to spend my time looking out of the window, rather than continuosly looking at the instrument panel for built in messages that scare the jeepers out of any motorist.
  9. I do miss the sound of air being gulped into the engine on my cortina mk111 GT back in the old days, chrome air fliter and oiled sponge to trap the finer particles!! Progressed onto rover V8's and webbers were on that engine too, and even put the 4barrel hollys on it. That was the only rover 3500s i owned where you could see the fuel guage move downwards when one put the foot down. Mind you, petrol was much cheaper back then, like fill it up and buy 40 fags and still have change from £30 !!
  10. congratulations on your new purchase...you probably know that your superb was a nice car to drive with all the luxury that goes with it, and you also know about the possibility of suffering a few expensive repairs should they happen, ie oil pump failure and cost of replacing the dpf. Ive seen the new monte carlo fabia and its a very nice pratical car...i hope you have many happy hours driving it
  11. I would try the vw repair center in gosport...brilliant mechanics who use genuine parts. They were the garage that replaced the engine on my 2.0 tdi when oil pump failed. They are always busy and they have a good number of clients who prefer to use them rather than a dealer. If you need any further details pm me.
  12. I'm thinking that us drivers are taken in by the acclaimed fuel ecconomy of diesels and the high torque figues some engines produce, yet dont take into account the expense and problems with the combustion side of things like disel particulate filters and the expense in replacing them in relatively short mileages. I personally think that the technology isnt quite there yet and reliability is another issue concerning these systems. I know common rail engines are supposed to be smoother, but what with the cost of diesel now compared to unleaded petrol, i am seriously thinking of going back to petrol engine derived cars and give them a try out after a 10year break !! Ok some might argue they prefer diesel and some prefer petrol, but having read threads on the superb forum some diesel owners are certainly experiencing problems, especially diesel models. As for you supurbia like me having had bad experiences with VW and you mention problems with your passat, then id go back and try vauxhall again...they are the dealer i will be dealing with when my wife's motability car has to be returned. Skoda wont be getting anymore business from me again.
  13. i was wondering if possibly you had a very small amount of unburnt fuel causing the engine to rise is revolutions. Maybe this is due to leakage through the gaskets on the manifold....either way rotodiesel should be along soon for a more pinpoint diagnosis
  14. i liked our superb when my wife and i bought it brand spanking new. We wanted a new car with vw build quality and a diesel for long term reliability.....and 3yrs down the line the car was dead but still looked brand new. So annoying when we eventually found out it was the oil pump....and thinking that this item is the heart of the engine and they fitted it with a duff lubricating ticker !!! Then there was the hassles with skoda uk and they simply were not interested...and offered a minimal goodwill, which basically was an insult. Ad im like how many more owners like myself who have a new car with a terminal problem? And dont think it wont happen because it will catch you unawares, regardless how much care and attention you lavish on the car. As for audi, id stick with the 1.9 or go above 2.0 and avoid all 2.0 engined models in the vw line up.
  15. The weird comments are from those unfortunate owners who had the dreaded oil pump failures.....the comments are on here for a reason and you would be wise to take them seriously, avoid all 2.0 engines in the VAG line up, as for the newer models i would have thought the problem would have been sorted...but knowing VAG and their love of ripping ppl off when it comes dealing with them, it might be better to try another motor.
  16. Google up independant vw or skoda sericing newcastle and have a look whats on offer...and steer away from the expensive dealers
  17. Seems once upon a time skoda cars used to be the butt of quite a few jokes, now it seems VAG and SKODA are having a laugh at skoda superb owners who are experiencing troubles with lubrication systems !! From my own personal experience having the dreaded oil pump failure, and trying to get skoda to cough up some good will to no avail, even tho the car was 6mths out of warranty, i would reccomend one of two things. Get a warranty that covers the oil pump, preferably from main dealer, or get shot of it. Because the grief and expence is not what one needs, especially if you own a luxurious elegance or l+k model, because the scenario is here you are with a luxury car that drives really nice and just a tiny shaft can ruin the engine and ones finances and if your attached to your wheels its also linked to your wallet, and thats where VAG win. So go for the cheapest option and get it fixed so the car becomes an asset again and then get shot of it. That goes for those who have a warranty with their cars as well, because if you want to age over night, this is what will happen if you decide to keep your wheels.
  18. yes it should come on...could be a switch problem
  19. In reply to your questions 1: i think it is possible to get the crusie control to work but you also need the stalk that opperates the cruise control..and possibly the extra bit of wiring needed to connect up to the engine side of things and possibly the laptop that contains all the information on the model superb that you have...it wont be easy 2: its possible the residue from the adhesive has reacted with the dash 3:Double din units whether it be sat nav or hifi based should be a straight fit into the existing appearure...dont fit the more modern skoda nav as it will need some alterations to make it fit 4: you can probably access those in a scrap yard on the next spec model like the comfort, or failing that there are kits out there and you can stick them on 5: depending on the mileage a remap will give you a bit more oompff..i've no idea about the price tho 6: tricky that one...i removed the rear led light to suck out dead flies, but basically the parcel shelf is a fixture and fixed to the bulkhead All the best
  20. Even a small turbo would push it through the 300bhp mark
  21. maybe they put a smaller turbo in it
  22. Hi can anyone help me scource a roof rack for a superb greenline hatch back? i've looked online at halfords but it seems they dont do them !! any help or tips would be much appreciated .... regards skodanut
  23. if you asked the dealer to supply you with the towbar and single electrics then he has taken aboard a contract with you the customer. if you have issues with your order then he should rectify the problem to your satisfaction. Failure to rectify the problem will look favourably on you when you say that you are not satisfied with the part supplied. It could be faulty, but as you state the dealer is unwilling to do the fix then you have the law on your side. Dont let them fob you off with switching sensors off manually. If they are meant to do so automatically then it is down to the dealer to sort it out. A few strong words and a mention of trading standards might get them to sort it. All the best
  24. my dad had a passat sport with the spoiler that had its own led brake light and the one built into the car rear window...think that would look pretty cool on a superb provided you could wire it all up and fix it to the boot
