  1. I'm changing the tailgate on my estate, and I have a new lock barrel to suit my key. Does anyone know how to remove the barrel from the existing lock mechanism? I've got the spring and locking tab out, but the barrel won't come out. I think it is supposed to slide out and its just corroded in, but just wondering if there's a "thingy" I need to remove/loosen/move to allow it to slide out? Cheers
  2. Does the car have a stainless exhaust on by any chance?
  3. Not sure if this will help but when I did mine there was a bracket that holds some pipes above the tensioner and i put this back on between the tensioner and the engine and it ran off like yours. I moved the bracket to the front of the tensioner and it was fine.
  4. Thanks for that, new exhausts seem to be really expensive and second hand ones don't come up close by! I'll keep my eyes peeled.
  5. Thanks for replying. Now I know whats what I can start looking for one. Cheers.
  6. Can anyone tell me if saloon rear bumpers will fit an estate please? Mine has been clouted and i need a new bumper so looking at my options. And also is there and compatibility between other marques and the Octavia with exhausts?
  7. Does anyone know if the door speakers are the same? I've not looked at the VRS ones yet but the Bora ones seem to be riveted into the doors?
  8. The Bora is a 2.0 petrol auto SE with a US boot lid. Ill get door locks/looms/door motors etc and some other stuff off it then weigh it in. Thanks for the replies.
  9. Hope this is the right place to ask, apologies if not. I've got hold of a 2000 Bora for scrap money to strip, mainly for the black carpet to slot into my Mk1 Octavia VRS replacing the light grey one. Does anyone know what else I can strip off the Bora that will fit on the VRS before it goes? I thought the rear calipers would go on but they are solid discs, and ive got the puddle lights off as mine are damaged. I thought the door mirrors might fit but the bases are different, can the mirror bases be swapped? Cheers.
  10. I had the DV off today and found it was a bit sticky. I managed to screw the top off and have a look inside but nothing seemed wrong so put some silicone grease on the piston and reassembled it and its freed it up nicely. Not heard the waste gate flutter since. Thanks for the replies everyone.
  11. Thanks for the replies guys. Its certainly a recirculating valve and not a BOV. Does anyone have the part number for an OEM DV please? Where is the best place to host pics these days? Can photobucket still be used, or do I not need a hosting site?
  12. Thanks for your reply. I think both could be an option. The DV seems to be a cheap ebay item fitted by a previous owner and i'm working my way through all the hoses. I'll whip the DV off and see if its serviceable or not and try and clean it up a bit.
  13. My VRS isn't my first petrol turbo car but it is my first from the VAG family. I apologise for the daft questions but I just want to check i'm not driving a lemon. On acceleration I can hear the turbo spooling and building boost, then when I let off to change gear I can hear the recirc DV letting the excess boost go back into the system. The car has standard air box with a green cotton filter. Today I noticed I could hear waste gate flutter when I lifted off in second and third gear going up a hill. Are these noises all normal? The DV is aftermarket but I can't see a name on it and i'm still checking for split hoses but only found one so far that I've repaired.
  14. Do you still have the tailgate? If so it in decent condition rust wise? Thanks.
