  1. Thanks again. Now I know that the key words are "microphone sensitivity", I am at least heading in the right direction. Which will still be back to the dealer, and they can get it right.
  2. Thanks again. That is an easy and effective way to reboot the radio (holding the volume control for 10 seconds or so). Unfortunately it made no difference to the fault with the hands-free phone operation. I think I will have to go back to the dealer and can try prising out the microphone.
  3. Thank you again. My handbook identified a fuse for the radio, but there was in fact no fuse in that position. Could it be the fuse for the infotainment screen - the little screen in front of the steering wheel? I am a little reluctant to just pull out fuses at random until the radio stops playing. There seem to be an awful lot of them, many of which are distinctly inaccessible for someone my age. I can see that the radio is always supplied with electricity (as you can turn it on without having the ignition key in). Is it likely that cutting power to it will effect a re-set? I'd have no problem finding the Radio pre-sets again, but I'd like to believe this might actually work to change the way the hands-free phone operates.

  5. Thanks. I am not sure I need a software update: I was thinking of a simple re-boot. But for what it is worth, when I hold down the menu key, the information is: Installed Software Train Version: MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0361T Installed SW MU Version: 0361 Part Number 5Q00358748 Software version: H28.28.174_STD2Nav_EU Does this mean anything in particular?

  7. I have a 2016 Skoda Octavia with (I think) the Amundsen MiB2 infotainment unit. There is a problem with the hands-free phone. The person making the call from the car finds no problem at all. But the person receiving the call - or, if you prefer, the person outside the car - can barely hear what the driver is saying. They can speak and be heard clearly in the car, but even with their own volume turned right up, they can only hear a whisper from the driver. Initially I thought this must be a fault with the microphone in the car (and maybe it is), but when the voice commands are used - eg, when placing a call from the car - the car appears to have no trouble hearing what you have said. So unless there are two separate microphones, I'd guess this is a software issue. Has anyone experienced this before? If it is software, is there a way to re-boot the hands-free system?
  8. PD: yes, not retaining the previous settings is annoying. So you might find using the RH knob to set the scale useful. It overrides the "auto" scale setting. Auto doesn't work too well if you're cruising on a motorway (it sets the scale to something like 2km to a cm when you're going fast) and you want to see the name of the village you've just passed. Twisting the knob is a lot easier than trying to spread your fingertips on the screen. And I now remember that the scale setting is controlled by touching the scale bar icon on the screen, not by the "View" on the bar at the bottom. In there, "auto" is for day and night, and on mine it thinks it's night if it's overcast (like now when it's raining), which isn't much help. Or should I wash the windscreen?
  9. Thanks! But it's long been my experience that the "View" "Automatic" setting doesn't work very well, and it's how I have it set all the time. But if you are looking to programme in a destination by picking it off the map rather than entering an address (and particularly an address that the Satnav doesn't recognise, which in my experience is a lot of them) then the control knob is very useful.
  10. I have only just discovered - after nearly three years of ownership - that the knob on the right under the screen on my Amundsen Satnav changes the scale of the map. Up until now I had been using my fingers on the screen for this, usually with results I didn't want. The knob changes the scale of the map whenever a map is shown (eg also in looking for a destination to programme). This is thanks to my 10-year-old grandson, sitting in the front seat and saying "What does this do?" and not waiting for an answer (which would probably have been "Best not to touch anything....") I'm mentioning this as subsequently I looked in my (French-language) handbook, and it's definitely not mentioned there.
  11. Can I just add another thankyou to everyone on this forum for their helpful contributions. I now have the "2020" maps for Europe, and these do indeed include the new reduced speed limits in rural parts of France.
  12. Thanks Gasconman. In fact when I went to page you have just suggested, I found that I was eventually able to get through to the MIB2 maps for the whole of Europe, and these were the ones my link earlier today goes to as well. Now it's just a matter or watching paint dry for 6 or 7 hours!
  13. Ah yes, possibly this one is the latest (80kph) updated version: http://vw-mapscdn.tdd.adacorcdn.com/DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1310_V11.7z If anyone can confirm that is the latest for the MIB2, I'll download it. I have a very slow connection here (we're talking 6 hours or more for the download) and it often fails midway, so I don't want to start before I'm sure!
  14. Is there a later update than 2018/2019 for the MIB2? Or is it possible that VAG had updated parts of France but not bothered with la France Profonde round here (the Cantal)? I used this direct link, posted here in mid-2018, but I suppose it has possibly by now been superseded - http://vw-mapscdn.tdd.adacorcdn.com/DiscoverMedia2_EU1_2718_1030.7z
  15. I downloaded the MIB2 maps for my Octavia (thanks very much Kenai!), and they now show up as the 2018/2019 version. But I was faintly disappointed that the France maps don't include the new (reduced) speed limits for rural areas. They still show 90kph for all single-carriageway roads outside towns, where in fact the limit is 80kph - with a few exceptions. Both Garmin and Google Maps show the right speed limits, so it's a pity VAG couldn't get their own act together.
