  1. I realise that it's very much a 1st world problem, but being a bit of a stats nerd I find it quite irritating - I always try to add the "Since Refuelling" mpg reading into my SpritMonitor entries, and every now and then I run a comparison between the actual MPG and car measured MPG (I think there's generally a 5% difference between them). Long term resets every 100 hours I think, and Since Refuelling does (or should do) what it says on the tin. Since Start resets when the ignition has been off for 2 hours, but these days they are all generally resetting every time I start the car - I was very surprised last night to see that the Since Start reading hadn't reset after being in a Heathrow carpark for 90 minutes (unlike my bank balance when I paid for parking!)
  2. For a while now the counters keep resetting to zero almost every time I start the car, on at least one occasion they reset in the middle of a journey when I turned the engine off at a level crossing. Is there something I can do to fix this, or is it something to mention next time it gets serviced (not till November)
  3. Blimey, I don't think I've ever had ours up at 70 - you must have a right foot like a feather! We've had the 1.0 litre for three years, and it's a brilliant engine (we upgraded from a 85hp 1.4l Roomster, and the difference is astonishing). We average 45mpg, but on a long motorway run can normally get an easy 55mpg indicated (53mpg actual)
  4. I can't even get the app to add my car properly - I've added the VIN, but all I then get on the "Garage" page is a grey box saying "For security reasons, please connect your phone to the vehicle to activate SmartLink+". I've tried adding the car while plugged in and the ignition is turned on, but it makes no difference
  5. We're off to France in July. I know we have to have hi-vis jackets and a triangle etc, but do we have to get deflectors for the headlights? We have a 1.0Tsi SE so just the standard headlights
  6. Bear in mind that the value WBAC initially quote is the absolute maximum they might give you, and they will knock it down for any tiny imperfection. They quoted us around £1,500 for our 8 year old Roomster, did the walk round where they said it was in pretty good condition, and then offered us £800 because of some very small issues. We haggled them up to £1,000, but unfortunately they had us over a barrel as the insurance ran out the next day so we needed the quick sale. That said, it was still £250 more than the dealer offered us in part exchange for our new Octavia
  7. Think they need a better proof-reader - Illuminate is definitely not the word they're looking for!
  8. They don't in our Octavia - on more than one occasion both my wife and I have nudged the garage door when parking (we have to park as far back as possible as the drive is only just long enough for the car). I know when it goes to a solid tone I can get another 6 inches back, but sometimes it's quite difficult to judge that, particularly in the dark (it's a black garage door).
  9. Strangely when I closed the door last night I didn't notice the rattle. That said, I was in a bit of a hurry, so didn't take time to really study it
  10. Over the weekend I noticed that when I close the driver's door it no longer closes with the satisfying "clunk" that it always has before - there's a distinct bang /rattle as well as the clunk. Any ideas what it might be? I can't see anything obviously loose
  11. Our 1.0TSi Octavia Estate is well run in now (18,000 miles) and we're averaging 45mpg, though the indicated mpg is generally around 5% higher than actual. Best we've got from a tank is 548 miles @ 53.9mpg on a motorway / A-road run up to, around and back from Norfolk. It's significantly better than the 1.4 Roomster we used to have (which averaged 34.7mpg), but with the benefit of 40 more horsepower
  12. Not the cheapest? I've just googled it, and Skycamp want $3,899 for their base model! 😮
  13. It may occasionally be a distraction, but it will also apply the brakes if a collision is imminent - I've had this happen once, and I was very glad of it!
  14. Mine hasn't appeared 4 months after the service was carried out. Guess I'd best get in touch with the dealer
  15. OK, thanks. Looks like a pain in the arse to fix it, I'll just carry on knowing it's over-estimating a bit
  16. Is it possible to re-calibrate the MPG calculations in the display? According to Spritmonitor, mine is over-estimating by about 5% (average is shown as 46.9mpg, but it's actually 44.5)
  17. We had 9 miles on our when we picked it up My kids would be buggered over there - they like to hold their breath through tunnels!
  18. Looks quite smart. Back end is very A3-esque
  19. You must be doing much longer runs than us - we're at 44mpg after 13,000 miles. Get it on a good motorway run and it's happily up at between 55-60mpg, we just do too much short distance local driving to keep it any higher. That said, it's 10mpg better than our old 1.4 Roomster managed
  20. I believe Hell froze over a couple of weeks ago https://news.sky.com/story/hell-freezes-over-as-deadly-polar-vortex-grips-us-11623865
  21. We were planning on upgrading our Roomster to a Yeti (or Karoq as it turned out); however although the boot volume was bigger than the Octavia (I think), the boot area (a much more useful measure) of the Octavia was much bigger.
  22. I remember the joys of driving a non-airconditioned Holden Apollo with vinyl seats during a Brisbane summer (fortunately one of the milder ones - it didn't get much above 35c). Absolutely everything that you needed to touch seemed hotter than the surface of the sun!
  23. Thanks Fin69, do you know if I can use the GTechniq Gwash shampoo in the bottle, or do I need something specifically for pressure washers?
  24. Now that we have a driveway I have finally invested in a pressure washer (a Nilfisk C110). I've only ever used one for cleaning the patio, so could do with some pointers on car washing technique - up till now I've gone with a hose rinse, two bucket wash with a lambswool mitt & Gtechniq G-Wash shampoo & another hose rinse. Should I still do a rinse first to remove loose dirt? I assume I should then use the bottle that came with the washer to apply the foam, but what sort of concentration do I need, and do I add water into the bottle first? I'm guessing I then use the mitt & two buckets before rinsing & drying?
