  1. Thank you for your interest. I am somewhat puzzled by your explanation "adjusting sensitivity"? I don't know how the sensitivity can be adjusted, as on my vehicle it seems to be pre-set and non-adjustable? Explain please. Nonrev.
  2. Very many thanks for suggestions. Yes I have checked the screen "sensor" though obviously just by looking. It appears correct and clean. I have not had a new screen - yet - but am thinking about it as present one is badly scratched due to high mileage before I acquired it. The sensor was suggested as being a possible cause, but I believe rather expensive to renew? As stated, the problems are not sufficiently "annoying" to me to want a very large bill for remedying the fault/s, (I'm 84) but might take it further with dealer for estimate. Will let you know results! Nonrev.
  3. My Octavia 3 has now done 70000 + miles with great satisfaction and economy (1.6 tdi). However the only two faults I have found during my last 2 yrs. seem to be a nuisance and Very expensive to cure - 1. No real bother but had three unsuccessful attempts to have fixed under guarantee on my Auto dipping operation. It worked OK initially but then stopped progressively. Never had a previous car with this so do not really miss it. 2. The selective timing wiper mechanism has packed up. It goes "mad" if operated on "auto" in one position so I tend to ignore it and use entirely on or off. I took it up briefly with supplier but was told it could be very costly and well outside guarantee. Any one with similar "faults"? Baz?

    Baz.

Question 1 - 2013 Octavia 1.6 diesel turbo has 225 by 45 by 17 Wheels/Tyres, which I find are rather harsh on ride comfort. Is it feasible to fit smaller but higher profile tyres without other alterations on the same rims? Question 2 - What is the life expectancy of Diesel Turbos assuming regular servicing with recommended lubricants?
  5. Nonrev. Quite right there is a Tick box but apart from being able to set the speed at which the warning is displayed I can't alter the "Winter" tyre wording. I can only imagine this is set when the tyres are fitted originally....any further ideas welcomed! Many thanks.
  6. Nonrev. Many thanks for correction, I truly was not aware this was called Maxidot, I will have another try and let you know results - if any.
  7. Nonrev. My humble Octavia does not have "Maxidot", but many thanks. Will have another try on "Tyre" settings.
  8. My Octavia 1.6 TDI occasionally displays a "Winter" tyres warning on the display. I havn't altered this message in any was as I do not know how. The tyres I have fitted on the front are NOT "Winter" tyres, The rear ones were already on and are Michelins. How do I delete or change this message as I can find nothing regarding it in the instruction book/s? Is it Automatic via electronics when the tyres are first fitted? Info please?
  9. My first car was a Ford Popular with a side valve engine, no heater/wireless. etc, etc, It had a top speed of about 45 mph but with TRANSVERSE LEAF (cart-spring) suspension, if you went anywhere near this speed you bounced all over the road. It also only did about 27/30 mpg. Who says we havn't progressed? Happy days! Nonrev!
  10. Nonrev. I guess I must be getting old (84) but I am ex police advanced driver and know my cars. Performance in this country is very over-stated as it can very rarely be used LEGALLY. I do like quietness and comfort with brisk acceleration but find compared with cars 50 years ago they all have this. Compare some very ordinary family saloons of today with high-powered semi-sports of yesteryear??? I am amazed the manual gear-change is taking so long to disappear! Whatever you get, make the most of it - we'll l be battery powered and driverless before long. Best of luck with your choice.
  11. Nonrev. Lots of opinions on this - particularly on price of the recommended lubricant! I have suspicions that if your car is a TURBO and you want a long life from the unit you would be VERY wise to pay the extra, and change it at least 10,000 -12000 intervals. There have been some turbo failures at low mileages in the past, and I think this is the sensible option.
  12. Nonrev. Bought a used Mk 3 (2013 regd) with 50000 clocked. Has now done 70000 with complete satisfaction trouble-free miles. It is only a 1.6 Turbo 105 bhp but has more than enough oomph for a family saloon, NO tax to pay and I get 60 plus mpg on runs. What more do you want?
  13. Many thanks for your comments but IF you READ IT CAREFULLY you would see I refer to the Wiper ARM and not the blade. I have been perfectly satisfied in the past with various brands of blade and consider them to be very little different in performance but a VERY great deal different in the price charged - Lidls and Aldi blades at approx. £4 a pair were quite satisfactory and you could change them several times over for the price of one of the Big Brands. If you want further "proof" see how difficult the car manufacturers are making the "fittings" and personalising their own replacements. Years ago you could buy new blade rubber by the yard - cut it to length - and re-fit yourself. They are now cleverly designed to thwart this. But thank you for your interest.. Incidentally I have been driving for over 60 years and am ex Police "Advanced" so I DO have some experience.
  14. I recently "bent" my drivers wiper blade ARM and was horrified to be quoted £71 for replacement - how can this price be justified for such a minor component? It is extremely difficult to re-bend to the correct angle and as a result I get a very uneven windscreen clean plus noise! Any thoughts. Second hand bits very hard to come by on such a recent car - do any VW wiper arms match?
