  1. Thanks for your story Andy. Glad I'm not the only one affected. At the moment mine is in place but I could find it dangling on it's cord any time! Will get it looked at at the next service. Very annoying though.
  2. Thanks. This is what I did, but it was almost falling out again a week later. When I took it out I had a close look inside the hole in the roof. I noticed two springy black plastic catches or hooks on the rear (tailgate) side and thought I may have pushed these in when I refitted the light. I think they are supposed to spring towards the light holding it up. But I think mine may have been forced wrongly when I tried to refit the light. I tried to pull the catches back with some thread and may have at least managed to get one catch back. Not sure if you know what I mean!
  3. Hello. Thank you for replying. It is the interior light in the centre of the roof between the front and rear seats. Behind the driver's head and infront of the rear passenger's head. At the moment it is in place so I cannot photograph it dangling. But it's the complete light fitting. I have attached a stock photo of what dangles! Thank you.
  4. I was shocked the other day when for no reason the rear interior roof light was dangling on its cable. I also own a 2015 VW Golf Estate which has the exact same interior light so I knew which way round it had to go back. But there are two tiny black hooks sticking out inside the roof space which I did not notice the first time I pushed the light back in. So it fell out again! I am guessing the light has to be hinged back in a way for the black hooks to click in place, but there is no help anywhere. No mention about changing interior lights in the owners manual. I cannot believe I am the only one who has had this problem, so could anyone help me with how to get the light back in place please. Nothing on YouTube either! Many thanks.
  5. Hi. I didn't need to have my engine running. I just had the ignition on while it downloaded from the SD card. The ignition stays on for quite a long time before battery save cuts in. If this happens just switch on ignition again and it resumes where it left off.
  6. My Golf's Discover Pro is now updating on my second attempt. What did I do different to the first attempt? Instead of having just the one extracted 27GB file on the SD Card, I sent the files contained in the extracted file separately. So the card had MIB1, MIB2 and - in the case of VW - two very small notepad files. The SD Card containing just these 4 files was inserted in SD Card slot number 1, then switch on the ignition, then the unit, then call up Navigation, choose version and then select Update. After 20 long seconds it then recognises the update and starts uploading from the card. Usually takes 45 minutes. Interstingly, the Skoda update was much newer than the VW one. Skoda already has the 2020 update available. VW still only has last year's update available, so will be out-of-date fairly soon and it will all start again!!
  7. It does waste a lot of time. And the battery will benefit from a charge afterwards. It took me at least 10 attempts but when it eventually works, it is very satisfying! I am now trying to update my Golf's Discover Pro navigation, which is the same as the Columbus but with a different front panel. And guess what?! Same error message. So now about to make my second attempt! Hopeless isn't it?!!
  8. Stop Press!! I have just successfully updated my Superb's Columbus Navigation Unit with the latest 2019-20 update. It has taken me about 12 attempts! In the end I used a different SD Card but even this one needed 3 or 4 attempts. Anyone else who's having a similar problem, I can now offer you the following advice:- 1. Keep trying! Delete the failing download and make a fresh download each time. Format the SD Card each time as well. 2. After you have downloaded the 25GB Zipped File, extract it. Then open the extracted file - you will have three files: MIB1, MIB2 and a notepad file. 3. Send these three files separately to your SD Card. This worked for me. I don't think the car has the sense to open the 28GB extracted file, so you do it to help it along! Hope this helps someone! It eventually worked for me! Now have to update my Golf's nav unit!! 🤪🤪
  9. I cannot get my 2016 Superb L&K's Columbus navigation to update. I have managed it in the past but the 2019 update fails every time. Is it me, the car, my laptop or the Skoda portal at fault? I download a 25GB zipped file and then extract it. I send the extracted file (now 28GB) to the SD Card and insert the card into the SD1 slot in the glovebox. I then switch on the ignition, then the unit, go to version and select update. It shows a searching for updates message on the screen but after around 40 seconds says no data found. What is going wrong? I have done this before without any problems. I have formatted the card before transfer. Getting frustrated with this!! Please help!
  10. Thanks for the suggestion. Do I have to order Passat washer jets from a VW dealer? It may be a quick job but even so, I don't fancy trying it! Who should fit the new jets - VW or Skoda dealer?
  11. Thank you for your comments. Since my original posting the electric tailgate has been fixed and it is now quieter inside! I'm on the original 18" wheels and tyres. So I'm more happy with the car now but one other niggle has been found! The windscreen washer jets are hopeless! It's not just on my car as we tried another Superb L&K and it was the same. You cannot adjust the spray pattern without putting one of the two jets too high whilst the other is too low. The old way adjusting with a pin was far, far better!
  12. Hi. I've had my 2016 Superb L&K 190 manual diesel estate for just over a month now. I'd like to share with you my early impressions. Good things: comfortable, well equipped (with one exception), good sound quality from ICE, nice gear change, good fuel economy - I'm getting 50 mpg, very roomy. Bad things: way too noisy inside (wind and road noise), no rear view camera - should be standard on the L&K, one electrical problem - tailgate won't lock (new electromagnet on order), virtual pedal needs 2 or 3 attempts to work. It is a nice car to drive but in narrow streets or lanes it can be awkward threading through tight gaps. I am surprised how economical it is and the annual road tax is only £10 as this is an SCR version. I appreciate the free downloadable navigation updates and have just loaded the new 2018 version. Overall I'd give it 8.5 out of 10 let down mainly by the cabin noise when on the move and lack of rear view camera.
