  1. No personal attack here mate the oem sachs shocks are not designed to be working In Its new range constantly, and with stiffer spring rates. No need to explain this further to you. the oem shocks will wear out alot faster. Period. So to answer your question(s) Yes, unless your dad owns the skoda factory and your vrs got factory installed bilstein, ohlins, konis or any performace shock-absorber, your stock shocks has LOST or WILL LOSE most of its dampening capabilities, and this is a 100% fact nomatter how you slice it. This is my last reply, sweet ride btw and no hard feelings pal lets not ruin this thread further.
  2. I was not talking specifically about you here. Just giving advise based on my own experience. You have only driven 40k miles on your lowering springs. I bet your shocks will give In and start to leak at about 60k miles, probably already lost most of their damping force and your basically riding on the springs.. Please give our pleasant chat a thought when this happens and you will have to choose what damper/ suspension to get next Btw. I am no ”armrest mechanic”. Did the swap myself DIY style after doing proper research on the subject. Im the type of guy that saves the cash to buy quality parts and get it right the first time. Lowering springs by themselves Is not a long term quality suspension solution, and you should know this if you’re half the mechanic you say . Peace, hope everything works out well for you (atleast suspension wise). Just don’t five people advise that’s not based on facts.
  3. Everyone Is entitled to their own opinion, however googling a bit and doing research you can see quite obviously what the popular opinion is. My point here Is, why pay for twice the labour and replacing them at different times, when you can get a better ride instantly and have them both swapped at the same labour cost. I have had both h&r sport and eibach prokit on my vrs, and driven about 120k kms on them, so I have some first hand experience on the matter and think I know what I’m talking about.
  4. They will wear slowly so you wont notice it until you ride in a car with proper sport dampers. I felt a big difference when swapping to konis. When you lower a car that much your stock shocks will not be working the range where they are suppose to, and they are WAY to soft for the spring rates of any lowering spring. Its all about matching the shock with the spring rate. I have done alot of research on this subject. You will probably be fine and Its going to ”work” as in Its driveable with stock shocks, but a terrible bouncy ride compared to sport shocks.
  5. @winny13 Yes, el correcto If your going to install lowering springs I strongly recommend replacing the stock shocks aswell. Bilstein sell the very popular B12 kit (bilstein b8 shocks and eibach pro-kit springs) that go hand In hand.
  6. That’s how much Its lowered (on eibach pro kit springs. Yes, with this setup there’s no rubbing at all. A lower ET like 40 In the front Is too far out with 245 wide tyres, a 235 could make it, but there’s no point doing it. In the rear a lower ET is fine, I’m running 12mm spacers In the rear so the ET is actually 33. I would avoid higher ET’s like 47-50 aswell because hitting the spring perches in the front. Thanks for liking my setup, means alot! Have to take better pictures of a clean car, but heres one from the side:
  7. @hypo I bought my wheels secondhand, but In good condition, I think that’s the only way to go since they cost around 800€/rim from the audi shop . Heres the exact ones: http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/audi_alloy_wheels/s4_8k_saloon_avant_alloys/19_audi_5_arm_hollow_spoke_wheel_2177 They do make a 9” wide version of these aswell with different ET. I would say that ET43 with 245/35 Is still ok, ET40 In the front would be pushing It. As you can see from the pics the Rim Is already on the outside the arch, while the wheel surfice Is just on the inside, flush fitment. So to answer your question, et35 In the front Is too much. Choosing your wheels is a personal choice, there is no right or wrong. If you ask me i prefer black glossy rims, or gunmetal. Both of those would look good in those colors in my opinion . I think the spec said 10mm in the back and 20mm in the front, but thats VRS. So from standard it would be 25mm in the back and 35mm in the front. I had the H&R sport -40mm springs before the prokit. The Eibachs looks way better, no chance of reverse rake look (rear lower than front), that was the case with the h&r’s. And when you slam the combi too far to the ground I think It starts to look longer (little bit like a limo ) especially with the rear further down. 19” will look better, and the 35 tyre wall will reduce wheel gap by 5mm, but increase ride height 5mm, but thats a non-issue, just more comfortable over speedbumps. Its the wheel gap that makes the car look like its on stilts. Hope this helps on your decision.
  8. @Vilho @hypo I got the wheels fitted today, 245/35 R19 all-around ET43 with 12mm spacers In the back, fitment is perfect imo. Really happy! heres a sneak-peak, excuse the dirty car Back: Front:
  9. 245/35 Is actually what Audi recommends on the 8.5 rims. I like a little sidewall and extra protection for the rims, and It looks great, the 235’s will be slightly stretched. The dude I bought them from had an S5 which had them stock from the factory with 255/35, but that looks a bit too fat imo. Heres 245/35 on 19x8.5:
  10. Hi, I am on eibach pro-kit springs aswell, I will have 19x8.5 with 245/35, et43 installed this week, maybe 12mm spacers in the back. Heres my black vrs on 17x7.5 with 225/45 tyres ET37. And another members blue vrs on 19x8.5 with 245/35, Et45 I remember. Eibach prokit springs, fits fine.
  11. Im running that setup on my winter tyres with studs, but ET37. My car is lowered on h&r -40mm springs. Not even close to rubbing, so yes will be just fine!
  12. Cheers mate, will do! If anybody has had H&R and B8 or B4 feel free to comment how the ride and handling Is.
  13. Ok, thanks mate. Are those b4's then shorter or why are they ok for the springs? Have to consider which ones to get. Are those part numbers fine with 2014 plate octavia 2.0tdi RS combi? Do you have part numbers for the bilstein b8's aswell?
  14. I understood that the b4 is a standard lenght shock for stock springs, since I have -40mm springs wouldn't this make the b4 have the same problem as the oem shock and not work properly? Could not find any "b4 sport" only b4.
  15. Hi, revicing this old thread. I have an tdi vrs combi on H&R -40mm springs. One of the stock rear shocks has started to leak. I'm going to replace both rear shocks (fronts later on maybe). Have done some reasearch on alternatives and It seems that the Bilstein B8 would suit my needs the best. However have read mixed reviews about them, some think they are too harsch. Now I'm absolutely not looking for a harsher ride then h&r with stock shocks which Is bearable over potholes and small bumps. Have a 1 year old In the backseat. But I'm not looking to change springs. So has anybody got firsthand experience of riding on vrs stock shocks on H&R and afterwards getting Bilstein B8's ? Would like to know how It affects ride quality compared to stock, this is my biggest concern. Thanks heeps.
  16. Old thread, but anyways, will you get the full exhaust system or just the outlet silencer part? What are the benefits of this? Did you need to get any work/ mapping done for the dsg (if thats what u got) to give u 500Nm? One chiptuning firm told me that the dsg will be limited to the standard 380Nm torque unless I remap It separately. Seems weird It would be this way since every remap promises imrpoved torque, no mention about a dsg-remap.
  17. I have 12mm hubcentric, always choose this type of spacer. You should get away with longer bolts, just take your oem bolt and add the spacer width to the lenght.
  18. Just got my 18" geminis traded for: 19" Audi by BBS hollow spoke gloss black light weight alloys. Specs are 19x8.5J et43. Will run 12mm spacers In the rear and 245/35 tyres all around. Will look sick! https://parts.audiallentown.com/p/Audi__A4/195--arm-Hollow-Spoke-Wheel/52957446/8K0071499BAX1.html
  19. Have to comply with everyone else, H&R def. the way to go! No experience of eibachs, but the h&r ride amazing and are not too harsh nor too soft, just right. If you're concerned about the ride hight I can tell you that I had zero issues even In winter and here in Finland we get quite a bit of snow. Some occasional front mud flap scrape but that's about It.
  20. Hi, found this topic to be the closest to an answer for me. my situation: i've ordered audi S5 hollow spokes 19x8.5J et43 wheels. The OE tyre size used by audi Is 255/35 but I'm thinking of running 245/35 all around. Or possibly front 235/35 and back 255/35. what Is your opinion on this setup? I have the pre-facelift VRS estate 2.0TDI lowered on H&R springs 40mm.
  21. Umm, because It did not work until we did tick the soft reset box. I understand you must first clear the fault codes, and this we did, but It kept logging fault codes despite clearing all codes -> then coding -> then turn off ignition. Maybe everything about coding with the vcds goes without saying to YOU, but what about everyone reading the sticky and coding for first time? Read In the threads of many who did not succeed coding and then resolved to crappy resistors or canbus error free leds instead of OEM. Maybe they just needed to clear the fault codes and do a soft reset.
  22. So which way is the "right" way? I just followed the instructions here from the threads and cut the damn "wings" off. I fitted them with the black "lip" facing inwards and the lights facing outwards. That's how I've seen them on most pictures.
  23. I did this today on my octavia III combi Vrs (my14), did it exactly like It says In the vcds index but we got the broken bulb fault everytime. Tried changing the "Lasttyp 25" to "41" and other options but didn't do the trick. ONLY after trying the soft reset and clearing the error codes did it work. Andyvee, you could update the sticky thread, with info of the soft reset etc. Btw I used: skoda rapid OEM led-light modules Part: 000052110 9.90€/ for 1 at your skoda - stealership. just cut these plastic "wings" and they will fit the right way.
  24. Just got my Vrs tdi mkIII and It runs like a dream on the H&R springs! I was so concerned before purchase, about the ride being too harsch and crashy, and the car sitting too low. I absolutely love It and would recommend It to anyone! The ride is very comfortable and the stiffness Is perfect, and not at all too low. Driving in finland with lots of snow, bumps and crappy roads.
