  1. Thanks @J.R. - MOT garage had it up on the ramp yesterday and couldn't see anything wrong on visual inspection. Will take it to a different garage next week to get second opinion.
  2. Quick follow-up question for everyone - what are my risk levels like driving the car at the moment? We started moving house 2 weeks before lockdown kicked in (bad timing - although better than being due to move 2 weeks after) and I need to do a 500 mile round trip (almost all motorway) this weekend to pick up the last of our stuff.
  3. @J.R. - sorry somehow missed your original reply - it's definitely noisier when turning right
  4. @Roottootemblowinootsoot - afraid I can't claim to have kept it running for 287k - I'm the second owner but have the full service history for it. It was on a variable service plan and the original owners (Londis Distribution - Company car which exclusively drove up and down the M1) were pretty religious about looking after it. Company I was recommended was https://www.millersmotorservices.com/ - had a chat with them earlier and they definitely seemed to know their stuff.
  5. Agree RE recipe for disaster. Playing devils advocate though - it's done 287k miles without skipping a beat and having never been serviced so that's not too shabby? They were pretty certain it wasn't the CV Joints but maybe a second opinion in order?
  6. Hey, I've got a Skoda Octavia 2012 with a 7 speed DSG and 287,000 miles on the clock. Just taken it into my local garage to get it checked out as I've developed a loud clicking sound when turning in either direction. It did start on right turns only, but is now present on left turn as well - although not as loud. The clicking sound only happens when I've got my foot on the accelerator - if I take a full lock turn without accelerating and just coast round at v low speeds it's quiet. Garage MOT'd it as was due in a couple of days anyway and I had a broken offside rear spring which was replaced and an issue with my offside front tire which was also replaced but they couldn't see any issues with the suspension or CV Joints. Told me it might be an issue with my DSG but they're not specialists at DSG stuff so referred me to another garage to get the oil changed. I'd always thought the 7 speed DSGs on MKIIs were lifetime sealed and didn't need servicing? Just wondering if anyone else has any ideas? Due to mileage don't want to invest too much more into car. Thanks, Mike Quick follow up - also noticed it when accelerating on a slight turn on a steep bank too - but this only happened once.
  7. Thanks again! My thinking has evolved a little bit and I'm now considering this as an option: Skoda Octavia - Connects2 - Full Kit - £56.99 Kenwood DPX-7100DAB - £146.95 I'm hoping those two items would give me everything I need to fully replace the Bolero and get me Bluetooth Streaming/DAB (Bonus! )/Hands Free Calling for just over £200. Any opinions on the above as an option or alternatives - and am I right in thinking that Connects2 kit would contain everything I need to swap out the radio?
  8. Thanks greenstripe - I want to stream audio and make calls - hadn't seen the Bury CC9048 so that's a pretty interesting option. Do you know how it performs with modern iPhones in terms of connection? An alternative I'm considering is retrofitting an Aux In cable using one of these and getting an Anker Roav Bluetooth Adapter which should get me Bluetooth for calls/streaming for about £20. On the flip side I'm not 100% sure that Aux In adapter cable will work and I don't know if I'd need to get the radio recoded if I did manage to fit it?
  9. OK - so second thread time I have a Bolero but no armrest which means I don't have an aux in cable - however checking on eBay I can see these conversion cables floating around. As I don't have a CD Changer it seems like the perfect way to add Aux In functionality to my car - but would I need to get the radio recoded to work with one of these? Cheers! Mike
  10. I've got a 2012 Skoda Octavia with a Bolero fitted. I don't have an armrest (so no aux in) and I don't have steering wheel controls or a maxidot. I'd really like to get Bluetooth up and running in my car for use with an iPhone 8 Plus running iOS 12 and a Samsung S8 Edge on Android 8.0. Looking at my options my current preferred choices are: Have a parrot kit installed - cost something in the region of £200-250. Install an aftermarket head unit with Bluetooth integrated. On the Parrot side my big concern is compatibility with the iPhone 8 Plus - does anyone have experience of an iPhone 8 Plus (or any other iOS 12 device) with the MKi9100 or MKi9200? --- If I went down the route of installing an aftermarket head unit I'd rather get a non-Android standard double din unit from Kenwood or Pioneer - probably towards the cheaper end of the market (£120-160). I know I'd also need to get a fascia adaptor like this: http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CT23SK03 My big question is - what else would I need except for the fascia kit and the head unit itself? I know I'd need a few cables but can anyone make any suggestions? --- Tried dropping the car into Halfords in Twickenham to get the radio replaced but apparently Halfords don't stock the fascia I'd need and they won't do the replacement if I bring in the fascia myself - so any suggestions on where I could get the radio replaced in West London would also be awesome. Cheers everyone!
  11. Just watched that video - my experience was nothing like that... Full blown emergency stop with a lot of noise. 2012 Octavia Estate. Kelper - car braked for me. I was just braking gently when it happened and stopped dead pretty much immediately after my hand slipped.
  12. Hey Guys, OP here. The car itself seems fine and has done another 1500-1800 miles since the incident (it's being driven between London and Cornwall regularly). Haven't had it up to inspect the underside but driving it and using P I can feel absolutely no difference. Wheels felt like they locked up but because it was a couple of weeks ago can't really remember. It was definitely a brown trouser moment though. I honestly feel like I've been a bit of a lucky SOB and gotten away with it. I think there should have been a crap load of damage. Would not recommend testing it yourself. Cheers, Mike
  13. Thanks for the comments, that's my worry too. On the engine stalling I think it did stall - I just instinctively turned the key into the off position after stopping.
  14. So I utterly ed up today. I had the DSG in S after overtaking someone a few minutes before, I was coming into a 30mph zone from a 60mph zone so went to break and decided to switch from S to D at the same time. For some godforsaken reason, I pressed the button on the gear stick as I was shifting from S to D and my hand slipped forwards throwing the car into P whilst I was travelling at about 30mph. Not exactly sure what happened next as I ended up doing the emergency stop to end all emergency stops and cacking myself in the process. Immediately turned the engine off and put the hazards on, sat there for 30 seconds to get over the blind panic and then turned the car on, put it in gear and pulled over. Long story short I need a new pair of trousers and I'm wondering what I should be looking out for with the Occy. So far it seems to be fine, I drove it home and took it for a couple of test drives on some hills. Put it in P on a small hill without the handbrake to make sure it holds and put it in on a steeper hill to check it too (I normally put the handbrake on first before engaging P) and except for a minor movement (50mm?) it holds the car fine. There's a small sound made when shifting from P into R or D if it's the only thing holding the car still on an incline but pretty sure that's normal and just the sound made when the pressure is released from the gearbox. Right now the car seems fine - have I just been a lucky git or should I be seriously worried and getting myself down to a garage?
  15. Hi, I've got a 2012 Octavia Estate with a Bolero installed which I'm looking to get kitted out with Bluetooth. There are no media buttons on the steering wheel and I don't have a MaxiDot. From my research I've got two options - install a Fiscon Basic Plus or OEM unit and run Bluetooth via the Bolero OR replace the Bolero with a new head unit which includes Bluetooth and a mic. Has anyone got any advice on which is the better option for my situation? Would also be interested in which one is more cost effective - my Occy has 260k miles on the clock and whilst it drives like it's only got 20k on the clock I don't want to spend too much in case it explodes Cheers, Mike EDIT: I'm using one of those crap FM transmitters for Bluetooth at the moment which has a pretty awful hiss no matter what frequency I tune it too. Unfortunately no AUX IN on the Bolero as I don't have the armrest so can't use a 3.5mm jack to Bluetooth dongle.
