  1. Belated thanks for your replies all!! - I posted this and did not see the comment notifications! This is definitely on the list -- I've decided to re-map it myself with MPSS + VAGsuite ,, software & cables in the post and will go up incrementally so I don't blow it up on the first day! : ) I think you're onto something here! My front tyres are terrible.. although they have plenty of tread I think the age/quality of them has hardened the rubber so that it loses traction too easily. The standard rims & tyres also look pretty narrow (and sit too far into the arch?) I'm on the lookout for Audi S4 wheels or similar .. 8-8.5J maybe with some sticky tyres up front. I also have some -50mm Eibach springs on order to stiffen up the front a bit and hopefully minimize the bounce
  2. Hi All, I've had a 2006 VRS Mk2 for a couple of months now, and noticed a really bad banging/jumping from the front when accelerating hard & breaking traction. For the sake of this post let's say I am on a drag strip, thus avoiding discussion about the highway code etc: Under maximum acceleration from standing the car feels like when the driven wheels start to loose traction, they bounce and immediately regain traction 2-3 times per second- producing a SEVERE jumping / juddering in the cabin with continuous banging sound... -If I disable the traction control it is marginally better, but still does it badly. -If I accelerate on dry road / without any wheelsping the car behaves fine -In the wet it is extremely noticeable, e.g. immediate if accelerating hard enough to induce any level wheelspin, through 1st and 2nd gear.. or if the Turbo kicks in at such a time as to break traction mid range. -If I wheelspin in snow the wheelspins are 'normal' .. so suspect too little traction to cause the 'hop' -It is definitely wheel / suspension related as the RPM & engine increase normally through the range. -The front Shocks & springs look fine on inspection and handling is otherwise normal. ( I do have some -50mm springs on order to stiffen things up further) I would like to add that I have absolutely no interest in producing wheel spins, but am using this to higlight the problem... ( would just like to be able to get the power down without the car making this horrific noise!!) Has anybody experienced this problem and have any advice on a fix? Many Thanks R
  3. When you say "idle doesn't change at all, sits at 800rpm. " do you mean generally or when covering the breather hole? If the engine running changes at all when covering that then I think the PCV diaphragm inside is shot and needs replacing. (If you cover the PCV hole and it doesn't change then problem must be something else)
  4. Hi All, I'm a new Skoda owner, got a 2006 Octavia VRS (150k on the clock) a few weeks back -- it's also my 1st turbo car so still figuring out how it all goes together under the bonnet. So far I really like the car (except for the horrific all-in-one engine cover/MAF/airbox)! I had problems with the idle from when I bought it, which I fixed by replacing the PCV valve- now idles smooth and seems generally fine... no errors on basic ODB2 scan now, but haven't hook up dealer level diagnostics. That said I'd really appreciate a advice on a couple of things: - I seem to get judder / (almost like axle tramp in a RWD car) when flooring it ... e.g. instead of just wheelspin feels like the front is jumping as well. Is this normal? would expect a leaky front shock absorber would do this if it was only left to bounce on the spring but it the shock seems fine otherwise? - I'm not sure if the Turbo is boosting properly .. 1st gear , expected lag - boost kicks in with wheelspin/judder.. 2nd gear bit of lag .. boost kicks in with wheelspin/judder ... 3rd gear - turbo isn't very noticeable at all. ? Does that sound normal for a VRS? any common leaks/parts that fail Thanks in advance for any help or comments!
  5. New member weighing in here - I also had rough/lumpy and seeking idle RPM on my 2006 VRS. When I blocked the PCV valve breather the engine was noticeably worse, juddering etc. I replaced the PCV valve (15 minute job + about £20 part thanks eBay!) -- cured the problem 100%, also when I block the new breather post-fix it has no effect on RPM at all. It's so cheap & easy to do its probably worth doing anyway.
