  1. As a private hire taxi driver for many years i’ve always bought premium tyres as no compromise on safety,I have tried all top brands. My conclusion a few years back was Michelin’s win hands down, now they have added the best all round tyre on the market the crossclimate + they are superb. Last year when the beast from the east decided to pay us a visit twice the crossclimates performed brilliantly and to get 32,000 miles out of a set of front tyres says it all,the rear ones have 42,000 on them and still have plenty tread left. These tyres perform brilliantly in wet or dry too and are planted to the road giving all the reassurance and confidence required,
  2. Bigjohn you are also correct as i clearly stated i had the upgrade model.
  3. Daveo138 you are correct, but as i said it seems i was getting duff info
  4. Morrisox you are a star, seems i have been given so much duff information from dealership i have contacted recently,i was told price for base S was £25k and if i wanted bi xenons and metallic paint then £27k,i asked if SE had tinted windows and was told yes so that ruled that model out for me. If you are saying SE has same windows as S model then brilliant as i want cruise and adaptive cruise control but most pleasing of all i stay with a superb. Skidpan thanks for info and also Awaoffski for info. After checking skoda car configurator it seems the dealership salesman has been giving me a price for an SE instead of an S,i asked him for price for 2.0l tdi dsg with metallic paint and bi xenons,£27,445,i now know thanks to you guys that the price was bull, this was same guy who told me SE had sunset glass, crafty as he obviously knew glass was same as S model but more commission.
  5. Kriva, sorry I never meant xenons were standard on base mk 2 model,I said if I wanted to add them to new base model, but these are now basic standard fittings on most cars so why do skoda not fit these as standard on all models?, my present mk 2 base model (does'nt have xenons) but all other colleagues with mk 2 base models all had cruise control and mine was bought brand new. In reply to Awaoffski I operate in west Lothian and the regulations are way OTT,I love the superb hence my rant about less for more £. Lanarkshire and most other councils don't have stupid tint rules thus limiting what vehicle spec you can actually buy,Cheshirebumki was spot on with that quote as this tint ruling is frustrating the life out of me, Hybrids are ok but they don't offer the legroom, hatchback boot and comfort a superb does. The superb also falls well within c/o level as its 105,council max is 150
  6. My point Cheshirebumpki is why mk 3 base model does'nt come with SAME standard equipment levels as mk 2 base model, less goodies for more money just does'nt add up.
  7. I have been a skoda man for 14 years now as they are quality cars for use as private hire taxi, at present I have a mk 2 15 plate upgrade 1.6 tdi S model. I am delighted with this car as it offers luxury, cruise control etc. I am thinking of getting a new mk 3 but council regulations restrictions state that I can't get Windows with tints over 25%,so that rules out higher spec models such as se,se L, etc. The base S model is £25k and to get bi xenon lights in skoda car builder configuration £27k and I looked at a colleagues mk 3 "S" mode and was far from impressed, interior lighting is a joke for starters, not even footwell lights and NO cruise control?. Skoda advertise superb as flagship model????, most other manufacturers are now offering bi xenon headlights, cruise control and a host of goodies as standard and nowhere near the price skoda are asking for a base model. Most colleagues who were always skoda superb fanatics have now deserted skoda and went with Kia Optima 3 and they are exactly what skoda's FLAGSHIP superb SHOULD BE. The equipment levels on these optima 's are jaw dropping and MUCH cheaper than even the base S superb, my only drawback with optima is the boot arrangement as shape of car could easily accommodate a hatchback but it's a stupid saloon type which is a pain as I find I never used it with superb twin door. At present I am considering all options, I love my superb for comfort and legroom but I don't intend to break the bank for a supposed FLAGSHIP superb mk 3 that offers basic levels of comfort that ALL CHEAP cars offer.
  8. A taxi driver colleague also has an 2011 superb,he was telling me the central locking was not working and only electric window operating was his drivers door. He said he had taken it to 2 different garages and none of them were able to fix the problems. I told him about the Indy guy I use at local garage and told him I would guarantee Craig would fix his problem. 5 broken wires n/s front door (within rubber boot on inside of BOTH doors) and 6 broken wires on o/s front door. At 170k and 7 years old at least those wires held up much longer than MINE done on my 15 plate which went at just over 2.5 years, Colleague is now delighted as all functions back to normal
  9. I 100% agree with you xman,it seems the bean counters are buying inferior wiring, window regulators etc to cut costs, surely we are ALL sitting with potential fire hazards as sooner or later these inferior wires will cause vehicles to ignite. Could this have something to do with cost cutting due to vag trying to recoup billions spent to USA and rest of world for compensation for the "cheat device" fiasco?,I sincerely hope not as IF???, this inferior wiring starts to cause vehicles igniting then the cheap option will defeat the purpose and cost billions MORE,I SINCERELY HOPE I'm wrong with that assumption.
  10. My superb developed fault on 20/01/18,the interior lights would not come on when n/s rear door was opened. This in turn led to no door open warning on maxidot and also same door would not lock with remote fob,the window on same door would not operate with door button or main driver console button. The alarm armed red light on drivers door was sticking on when car locked but then began flashing as normal about 30 seconds later, however alarm did go off when I opened faulty unlocked door. I took it to my trusted and brilliant Indy garage auto electrician today and he found that there was 3 broken wires on FRONT N/S door, these are situated inside rubber boot at inside of door. The car is only just over 2 years old (out of warranty as used as taxi with 71k on clock. He repaired these wires but recommended I buy a new wiring loom as wires are very brittle with insulation exposed(bone dry though) and who knows when they will break at brittle parts. All is well now and back to full functionality and I have ordered a new loom £109.53 + vat, auto electrician says any problems with rear doors and it's almost certain that the problem lies within the wiring on front doors as rear doors are only slave units,I hope this info helps
  11. Vanders, just out of interest are the xenons factory fitted or from a kit?
  12. Bonytony good to read you are a happy bunny since your car is back to normal, but why have a dig at me for not getting the fix done?. Reading your previous posts ie 27th Nov 17 it seems your "I rest my case "quote was anything but rested as you were howling your head off AFTER you had fix regarding fuel consumption up from 56.4mpg-under 50mpg. Then it was the warning lights, flashing glow plug and limp mode followed by "to say I am unhappy is an understatement". Then your post on 5th Dec 2017 you are howling again (and I totally understand why) that the previously mentioned warning lights were on again. This is why I chose NOT to get fix done as I had researched online and left no stone unturned. Thousands of people all had the same outcome as you did and a colleague with a superb 1.6tdi had the fix done (car only 9 months old and had 26k on clock) and 2 days later limp mode and egr failure so it's not only high mileage cars this so called fix has affected. My colleague was always a skoda fanatic till then and after fix problems he traded it in for a Dacia Logan mcv. Regarding your other comment about shortage of egr valves I suggest you google "shortage of egr valves due to vag fix", there you will find this information is not made up as it comes from uk parliament and other organisations. There you will also find info regarding thousands of disgruntled vag owners all saying the fix has ruined their cars. The bbc watchdog program also highlighted thousands of disgruntled people affected by the fix 2 weeks running last year. The whole point is as with you my friend why would you and anyone have to keep going back to get fix fixed?,as I said if it ain't broke don't fix it but that quote seemed to have touched a raw nerve, and for information only purposes, I don't EVER go with manufacturers guides with cam belts etc as I change 10k beforehand.
  13. I had same problem last week, oil sensor workshop, also no oil temperature reading on mfd,put car into local garage and diagnostics said oil level sensor (oil checked and level fine) garage changed sensor and all was well (or so I thought) as when bonnet was opened to check oil level it then resets fault (but only for a few miles) when bonnet is closed again. Oil sensor workshop and yellow oil can flashing again but went off when car underway. Went back to garage and oil sensor fault came up on diagnostics again. There is an Indy auto electrician (and a very good one) in garage and he found that 2 wires had corroded in loom situated between crossmember and steering rack, the loom and wires had been chaffing against crossmember and he said that should not have happened to a 2 year old car (out of warranty as taxi and 70k on clock. Anyway he reckoned that I wasted £90 on sensor and fitting as fault was electrical all along. All is well now and oil temperature reading is also back on mfd,I hope this info helps as last week I trawled all forums for an answer to this problem.
  14. The window regulators on superbs have wire braided cable that is too thin and flimsy to support a window as heavy, my first superb mk11 was an 11 plate and went through 5 front regulators in the 4 years I had it,first 3 were OK as car under warranty but every failure was broken cable. My next superb a 15 plate then had front regulator fail in first year,as usual I knew from experience and sound that the cable had once again snapped,I would say that skoda have had to replace a fair amount of these regulators over the years but cannot understand why they persist with the same supplier of an inferior product.
  15. I had this missing oil temperature on mfd problem since last week,it also had yellow warning saying oil level sensor fault at startup, I took it to a brilliant auto electrician within local garage and he found the culprit was 2 corroded wires within the loom, the loom and wires had chaffed against crossmember next to steering rack, the car is just over 2 years old and auto electrician said this should not happen to a car that age. It is used as a taxi so warranty is now up as 70k on clock.
  16. I had same problem with my first mk11 superb about 4 years ago, glow plug flashing and car then went into limp mode. Egr valve failure acc to skoda garage who done diagnostics and wanted minimum 7 hours labour charge for job as they said they would renew egr and reckoned pipes etc would also need replacing as they too would be gummed up with carbon. The price they quoted was over £1,300 but just by chance a work colleague had same problem a month before and recommended an ex VW Audi mechanic to me. He said the egr valve would need replacing but could not work out why skoda garage had also said pipes needed replacing too as he had never had the need to replace them, nor could he understand 7 hour labour charge. Anyway,if memory serves me the part and labour were about £420
  17. Regarding the so called vag FIX I binned the letter from skoda recalling my vehicle,I went online and seen the CONSISTANT complaints by many people who did get this fix. Poor mpg,egr valves failing, cars going into limp mode, etc etc. The problem is so bad that the vag group cannot source egr valves for months,I never got fix done because my car was running fine and if it ain't broke don't fix it. The way I seen it was if the so called fix was as easy as the vag claim it to be then why fit the cheat device in the first place?. Of course the vag will deny all knowledge if fixed cars fail and I feel so sorry for people affected by it.
  18. Hello to all skoda fanatics worldwide
