  1. So what is it running then? You say a front mount and hard pipes with no mention of turbo, then you say running 175 on stock turbo would be stupid. We need more information first rather than you just quoting figures which realistically aren't going to mean much
  2. Thanks for the reply puddy, mine only occurs on 'normal' acceleration. You can stop it by accelerating very gently or keeping it below 2000 rpm or above 3000. Doesn't occur when letting off throttle. Really confused as to why its not showing other signs of failure like the usual rattle on idle or difficulty pulling away smoothly
  3. My vrs has started to develop a vibration/shaking between sound 1900 and 3200 rpm. It started doing it gradually and now seems a lot worse than it was a few weeks ago. In 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear its a vibration that seems to rattle all the interior like all the panels are loose, then 4th and 5th it becomes a 'shake' particularly noticeable on full throttle but still there on more gentle acceleration. 6th gear it doesn't seem to occur at all. My first thoughts were engine mounts, the rear lower mount has been changed which made no difference. I rear somewhere it could be the dmf causing this, but there is no rattle on idle and no change in noise whether clutch is in or out. Can be revved without a load and runs perfectly. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
  4. I have been reading through another thread on here about overboost or underboost, and saw about logging it in vcds. I thought id try this and did a 3rd gear full throttle run from 1500-4500rpm. I graphed it after and managed to come up with the following which seems to indicate a spike in actual boost from 2000-3500rpm Is this a cause for concern, car is remapped as far as I know and pulls well in all gears with no noticeable drop off in power through the revs. Should add, blue is specified, orange is actual.
  5. Thanks to all for those suggestions, I did have a play with the timing at the weekend and it was reading 0.5 to start with. Managed to get it back to 0 degrees but unfortunately no difference in economy. I just cannot understand what it is that may be causing the low economy, its a well serviced car with all the usual suspect parts been changed, other than the fuel temp sensor which will be my next thing to change.
  6. Wow you got 50mpg out of a jeep! thats quite impressive
  7. Thanks sep, yes I've already changed the mat for a Bosch one, and the coolant sensor which I assume is the ECT? Not sure where fuel temp sensor would be, is it the one mounted near the head in the fuel lines or is that a pressure sensor?
  8. thanks for that wino, my long term average is about 43.8 over the last 8000 miles. That seems quite a way off the 'average' 48mpg which is showing on there.
  9. Yes I did wonder how accurate the dash display was. I tracked about 10 fill ups and they were actually above what the display was telling me by 0.5-1 mpg. I did a run the other night over 30 miles or so, on A- roads driving hard when it was clear and otherwise dawdling along at 50-60mph behind the traffic until an overtake was possible. Managed 45mpg still which is what I would get on the same run if I drove very conservatively.
  10. Back in the summer I was getting pretty similar economy and Its been fairly consistent so whilst I know it will be lower in winter it's never been great.
  11. No matter how gently or constantly I drive I can't see any more than about 53 on the motorway. Im struggling to think of any other parts which could be at fault. Going to play about with the timing and see how that affects things.
  12. Ah well I just thought it was possible to see higher mpg as lots of people seem to be claiming. One of the reasons I bought the VRS was the blend of performance, reliability and fuel economy. Its not exactly bad at 45mpg but still not as good as I was hoping.
  13. Thanks vindaloo thats a very interesting article. Will have a play with the timing I think and see if I can improve things. Since the weather has got colder I've not noticed the economy dropping other than the longer warm up time obviously.
  14. I did have this done recently and the car tracks perfectly with no uneven tyre wear.
  15. I have checked them over and definitely not binding anymore than they should be. Had new callipers not long ago on the rear
  16. Hello all, I am trying to find out what is a reasonable fuel economy figure to expect from a 2004 Skoda Fabia VRS. I am currently getting 45mpg on a longer run and it makes little difference if I drive as economically as possible or just make normal progress. Motorways at 70 mph will see around 52mpg max. The car has been well serviced and has had MAF sensor and coolant sensor changed for genuine items which were the first things I read about affecting fuel economy. I have also checked the timing and its spot on 0 degrees when checked with vag com. Tyres are all up to recommended pressures and no drag from the brakes. Does anyone know of anything else to check as I've heard people getting 60+mpg from these cars on a run and I've never seen more than 53mpg. Should also mention EGR has been cleaned and blanked off Thanks
