  1. with my 3g dongle, I've only needed to plug it into the headunit and it works off the bat. Mine is a ZTE 'Three' dongle so I haven't tried it with any other sim yet, I just buy prepaid data sims off ebay/
  2. the Octa core will be faster on boot plus it seems more supported. Lots of threads on XDA about stuff you can do with them: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/mtcd-android-head-units-general
  3. I've got 2 erisin units now ( have one in my golf aswell) and they've been fine. I just highly recommend getting in contact with the seller first to double check warranty etc.
  4. @Adam1980 I use waze. I have a 3g dongle connected to my headunit via USB so I don't have to tether from my phone.
  5. I'd highly recommend looking for a Octa-Core (PX5) chip with 2GB ram - I've had Quad-core's in previous car's and they take 30 seconds or so to boot up when you start the car where as the octa core ones start up nearly instantly.
  6. I've just got this one installed in my car: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-Android-8-0-Car-Stereo-GPS-VW-Passat-Tiguan-Touran-Golf-Navi-3G-CD-Player-DAB/273040300618 . I went for this one as its already got Android 8.0 installed on it (you can flash Oreo onto the android 6.0 units mind) and with this unit, the car's ISO block plugs directly into the unit rather than having an additional wiring loom like other units. (I had bought an Xtrons unit to install but due to the limited space behind the dash, I just sent it back) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-Android-6-0-Octa-Core-Car-Stereo-DVD-Player-For-SKODA-OCTAVIA-DAB-DVB-T-WiFi/112418985559 This one is android 6.0 with the Stream headunit shape, this should be a straight swap.
  7. really soory for the late reply. Just had a quick look and it doesn't look like it will smoothly go in.
  8. I'll try to have a look tonight/tomorrow for you. I've only just got my Octavia II and haven't used it in that yet. Had been using it in my golf previously with no issues.
  9. @snowathlete I've got one of these : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTRONS-Bluetooth-ELM327-OBD2-Car-Auto-Scanner-Tool-Switch-OBDII-CAN-BUS-Android/121818045710 Seems to work well and the On/Off button works (At least the LED's on it turn on/off - I haven't left it connected for a long period of time yet)
  10. Here's a quick pic.. Couple of things I need to sort out first then I'll take some more detailed pictures. When driving it home yesterday, I found that the both the speakers in the front passenger door don't work. Tested the balance via the headunit and all the others work correctly. Pulled out the headunit this morning to take a look and it seems the black cable has been snipped?? I'm going to assume this is the reason why they aren't working... Is there anything else I should check?
  11. So... I am hopefully going to view a Octavia vRS at the weekend. Are there any key things I need to be checking when viewing? Thanks
  12. Thanks that's good to know. Just trying to think of any possible thing's I might do just so I know what can be done when looking for a car.
  13. Not sure if this is a silly question (probably is)... out of 2 car's I have seen, it seems one of them has a maxidot dash/clocks (both 2006 vrs). My question is, how big is the job to swap them over? and could someone list the steps I would need to take? Thanks
  14. That would be the one....well..one of the ones I was looking at.
