  1. Some great pictures in here, not to mention so great (and subtle) modifications. I've only been a Skoda owner for a couple of weeks and mostly its been wet and dirty since I got it, so not great pictures, but here's my 2007 VRS : As you can see its pretty tidy looking for its age, the only bit that really lets it down is the state of the alloys. So far my efforts have gone into fixing a few little defects like the coolant level sensor and a cracked rear bumper reflector, not to mention cleaning up the decidedly manky interior ! Next on the list is a new rear wiper motor and then maybe some subtle mods, wheel re-furbing and de-badging. Jon
  2. Thanks for the tips, doesn't sound too onerous !
  3. Thanks for the quick reply, I guess I better start searching for a new motor then. Really hoped that was going to be a quick/cheap job after all, never mind, at least I am suitably experienced at swearing !
  4. Morning all, I have only had my Octavia a couple of weeks, and when I bought it I was aware that the rear wiper didn't work and having read a load of threads on here I presumed this was just the usual problem and a new wiper motor would sort it out. However having lived with it for a couple of weeks I am no longer convinced, for an example of what it does, here is this morning behaviour : This morning I got in the car, stated it, and accidentally knocked the wiper arm, the rear wiper smoothly and quickly wiped the rear window. That's odd I thought, waited a couple of seconds and it did it again. I turned off the wiper, but after about five minutes I started wondering if it was working normally now, so turned it on again and it again wiped the glass quickly and smoothly, no juddering, no nasty noises from the motor that would indicate its rusted/damaged internally. By now the windscreen has marks across it from the dry wiper so I decide to wash it, push the lever to wash, water comes out and the wiper stops all movement and won't wipe the screen again. Lastly, about 15 minutes later I parked the car to run into the shop, when I came out and started the car the wiper moved halfway across the screen and stopped pointing straight up and there it stayed regardless of whatever I did to the switch. So I am wondering if anyone else has had similar issues with their wiper and can provide help with diagnosis ? Even though the relay clicks when I move the switch, I am starting to wonder if this is possibly a wiring / relay issue ? Thanks Jon
  5. Morning all, I am slowly working through my newly purchased Octavia tidying the little bits of neglect its picked up, and one of the next jobs is cleaning the headlights as one side has what's left of a beam deflector stuck to it. I have no idea how long its been stuck on there for as I have just bought the car, but it certainly looks like its been there for a while ! I was thinking the easiest way clean this might be to use a razor blade / Stanley knife blade to scrap the worst off and then clean of the remaining adhesive with tar remover or something similar. My main concern was that there was some sort of coating on the glass that I could damage by scraping it (as I have done previously on other cars), has anyone attempted this before who can confirm I am not going to make matters in all look much worse ? Cheers Jon
  6. Thought I would say hello before posting anywhere else, so, hello all. My name is Jon, I live in the not so sunny island of Guernsey and I've just bought my first Skoda, its a petrol powered 2007 Octavia vRS in silver with just over 77k miles on the clock and a full dealer service history. So far I am loving the car, it is basically sound, it just needs a few little bits sorting out to make it pretty much immaculate. So far (with the help of information found on here) I have sorted out the low coolant warning, fixed a dislocated air vent fin and replaced the de-laminated wing mirror glass. Jon
