  1. Hi fabia2312 Glad you managed to get it fixed. I had the same issue with the windows still working after the ignition was switched off. Removing the old solder (with a solder suction pump) and resoldering the LIN chip resolved this. I took a couple of attempts at resoldering the chip to get it working. Windows still working. Hope it lasts. Been working on a fault with the central locking on the passenger door. Door would randomly lock and unlock when driving. Also noticed that a single press of the unluck button on the remote fob would unlock the drivers door then the passenger door too about 2 seconds later. Removed the window regulator carrier, reseated the plug on the door lock mechanism and it's been fine since.
  2. I chased my tail for weeks trying to figure out why the power windows were not working on my 2005 Fabia VRS. They worked intermittently. I replaced the relay on the PCB, however that made no difference. I watched a few videos like this one... https://youtu.be/lLTKYxBESP0 Thought I maybe had a faulty connection. Checked all wiring. No issues there. Checked the LIN wire from the drivers door motor (with a PICO scope) and found that the LIN wire didn't have a LIN signal when the windows were not working. Then I stumbled across this video.. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlExAJYp2x4 I didn't have a heat gun to try this. I was, however, certain that the motor (PCB) was faulty and needed to be replaced. TPS wanted £169 ex vat for new motor . Local Skoda dealer offered a discounted price of £169 including VAT. I decided to resolder the small chip with the QR code sticker on top, as I thought there could be a dry joint between the chip contact pins and the board. Not easy to do...but figured it was worth a go. It worked. Windows have been fine now for 3 weeks. I dont advise buying a used motor as it's pure luck if you get one with the correct software/coding. Also, the coding / full part numbers are not shown on the motors. Warning.. obviously only attempt this if you are reasonable good with a soldering iron and were about to buy a new motor anyway. This is a last resort attempt at a fix. It worked for me.
  3. I could do with replacing this on my car. Could you please let me know where you sourced a new pipe from? I tried entering the part number 038121065AB but Ebay came up blank? Thanks.
  4. I had the exact same issue which I think I've resolved. The Zenon level sensor linkage was seized on my 05 Fabia VRS (this sensor is fitted to the near side rear axle beam). I replaced this linkage (albeit not with an oem part as that was on back order from the factory). I also repaired a damaged cable that plugs into the level sensor. I suspect that this cable has been rubbing against the exhaust heat shield since the car was new. In my case the cable was damaged enough to expose a bare wire which I think may have been grounding itself against the exhaust heat shield thereby causing the dashboard light to come on (accompanied by a very annoying load beep). It's only been a day since I made this repair so can't yet be certain it's fixed the issue, however, so far so good. I'll report back in a few weeks to confirm if this has finally resolved this annoying issue. I should mention that removing the sensor assembly from the car (to replace the seized linkage) is made more tricky by the difficult to remove plug on the sensor. Thankfully you can buy a replacement plug if required.
  5. Thanks . Just wondered if (like the elegance) there was an upgrade to sport suspension and different alloys? My Fabia vrs does about 540 miles from a tank of diesel (using the reserve/brim method). It'll be a pain going backwards in this regard but need a bigger car so can't be helped. Any idea how many miles an Octavia vrs cr diesel or petrol gets between fill ups (driven in a mix a A/B/motorways - not ragging it but not nursing it either)? Also need to look at in gear performance times for the Octavia 1.8TSi / VRS compared to the Fabia VRS. Would be nice to test drive these cars but my local dealer is less than brilliant so will buy on stats plus feedback from Briskoda. So many things to consider when spend your hard earned on a new car!
  6. Thanks Jrayworth for the info on your car. Sounds great. I've read some posts where folks are complaining about road noise in the Octavia? I'm wondering if the estate could be a bit noisier than the hatch? Have also been considering an Octavia VRS (probably Petrol - only really do about 10k miles/year). Probably makes more sense to go for the L&K dsg7 with the 1.8 TSi as this reduces the road tax some what and has more toys as standard than the vrs. No cambelt renewal every 4 years either. Still curious as to options on the alloys. The miltispokes look a pain to clean. Cheers.
  7. I'm considering ordering a new Octavia 1.8 TSi DSG estate . Does anyone know if the petrol version has different alloys to the diesel? Not too keen on the multispoke ones on the diesels on this Autotrader page clicky. The one petrol cars alloys look better to my eyes, however I'm not sure if maybe that car has had a sport suspension/alloy wheel upgrade? Also, interested in anyone who has this engine/gearbox for their feelings/thoughts. What kind of mpg can I expect? My 05 fabia vrs does around 44mpg on my 15 mile mainly motorway commute to work. Had 60mpg plus once on a trip up to Skye but that was really nursing it . I had a X reg Golf GTI with the 20V 1.8T engine and used to average 32mpg. I'm thinking that the Octavia 1.8 TSi DSG should be similar? Thanks
  8. I've had my furby 4 weeks (only done 1200 miles so far), and am very happy with it apart from.... Alloys - looks like they have been base coated and laquered then base coated again....resulting in the top silver coat flaking off. Took it to my local dealer today, who took some pics and promised to contact Skoda to arrange 4 new alloy wheels. Slight plasticy rattles/squeaks coming from the rear ... could be the head rests or seat back (the stereo usually drowns the noise out). Rear door seal not fitted properly (at top). Doesn't seem to grip the door frame very well. Will need to investigate further. The brakes don't seem that great, I'm hoping they will improve with the mileage.
  9. I'm 6'2'' (long torso )and I find the front seat height adjustment on the Fabia VRS a bit of a joke. Definitely designed for midgets . On the lowest setting its livable (just), but nowhere near as low as I'd like. The highest setting would have my head up through the sunroof (if it had one). Also the lack of passenger seat height adjustment (and windy up windows in the back) is very poor, considering the car retailed at +
  10. Paul, I don't really see myself as a biker. I'm very much a fair weather Panda shandy lightweight. I've been driving on 4 wheels for the last 20 years and riding bikes for last 2 (summers). I know I'm not the world best car driver, having had a few minor scraps in early years. When riding the bike I am acutely aware that I need to be that bit more careful as any accident could result in severe injury or worse. Maybe 3 years ago before I decided to spend almost a grand on doing my direct access I would agreed with your views, but now I know better. Through my job I regularly meet traffic cops (bikers and car drivers). All the bikers I talk seem to start off in cars and progress to bikes. I'm not aware of many of these guys crashing on a regular bases. I can understand any parent trying to dissuade their kids from getting into motorbikes, like yours dad and my mum. If you have no interest in bikes then that's fine. So long as we can all show each other a bit of respect out there. Cheers Paul
  11. DL650 - not nearly as pretty as the sv650 but good fun nonetheless.
  12. Having recently joined the growing ranks of 2 wheeled motorists I find this story really sickening. This guys a Law student ffs! I'd like to rip his head off. F$%K$*g **** Btw I guarantee you my 650 twin will out accelerate most things on the road,, unless your doing 0-60 in under 5 seconds? No thought not.
