  1. Hi all, my trust old 07 1.9tdi turbo went pop yesterday. Turbo oil seals have gone I think. Put foot down, pop noise followed by loads of smoke and the engine cut out shortly afterwards. Got it recovered home and I've had a quick look and intercooler pipes are full of oil. I'm going to get a mechanic to look at it. What are people's thoughts, will the engine be scrap? Hydrolocked by oil and internal damage or will it just be a case of cleaning intercooler and hoses, new turbo and fresh oil ? Cheers Rob
  2. Hi yeah thought it might have just forgotten something, I've done lock to lock a couple of times. Where is best to get a vcds lead?
  3. Hi all my poor old mk2 Octy hasnt been used for a while and I had to charge the battery as it had gone completely flat. Battery is fully charged and has good voltage now. Went to use the car today and thw steering wheel light was on orange and the steering felt strange. It has power assistance, but it wasn't returning to centre on its own like steering usually does, the steering wheel stays exactly where you leave it. I could go around a round about no handed if i wanted, its a bit unsettling to drive. My generic eobd reader isn't finding any fault codes, what do people use to scan these? Any idea what it might be? Thanks Rob
  4. My wife was driving so I didn't feel how it felt myself, she said she tried pumping it and that didnt work and felt like the brakes did nothing at all but she could be mistaken. Fluid was replaced last year when seized rear caliper was replaced, mot advisory a few weeks ago was that the opposite one is binding slightly now, not sure if that would effect any thing. I'll check condition of fluid. I think I've found the lead I bought for my old Audi don't know if its any good for vcds I'll attach pic if anyone can tell from the pcb of it?
  5. Thanks for the reply. I'll give the pipes and pump a closer look at the weekend. Thanks
  6. No one have any thoughts? I've had a look around engine bay and vac pipes all seem ok. Abs light is on. Brakes working fine up and down the drive, not tried out on the road again yet.
  7. Hi all had a terrifying experience in the octavia mk2 today. Came to a junction and brake pedal was rock solid and applied no brake effort to the brakes. Had to use the handbrake to slow down! After that brakes have gone back to working fine and got us home fine. Abs and traction control light came on earlier in the journey and they have come on intermittently during journeys for the last few days byt brakes had been working fine. Anyone ever seen/heard of this before? Whats it likely to be? Obviously not going to risk driving the car again until it sorted. I've got a vagcom lead somewhere so I'll dig that out and plug it in and read codes afterwork. Any advice/help would be appreciated. Thanks Rob
  8. No I didn't, I've sold the car now. My next step would have been to replace the ecu that is attached to drivers electric window motor.
  9. Thanks for the reply. I'll pickup a lock from ebay. Cheers
  10. Sorry to bump an old thread but still need to get this sorted. Can i buy a drivers door window motor and controller off any mk4 golf?
  11. Thanks for the reply was starting to think no one cared It hasn't done it again since the first time and I've covered a few hundred miles since so hoping it was just a one off, but will keep an eye on it. Its only my back up/run around car.
  12. HI, thanks for the reply. Got the correct one now and fitted it fine. I syringed all the old diesel out and cleaned up the housing and filled with fresh diesel. Here are some pictures of the original filter, i think they are definitely metal flakes due to how shiny they are, also I think that could well be the original filter or at least the first service one (car is on 99k now) so it has had a long time to accumulate those flakes, although I am a little worried now.
  13. No body think there is anything to worry about? Where would the filings be from? The in tank pump? I have noticed a "shhhhhh" noise from the tank area of the car when you put your foot down. I guess that would be the pump making that noise? Anyway I'll get the correct filter tonight, use a syringe to suck out the old diesel and as much of the filings as possible and top up with fresh diesel hopefully that will be ok. Got a few thousand miles around France coming up.
  14. Hi all, I was giving the 2007 1.9TDi octy a full service today before our big road trip on friday. After opening up the housing I've discovered the fuel filter the motorfactors have given me is wrong, it comes with an olympic rings style gasket and quite a large middle opening, the one I need has small openings and not much else. Its UFI housing, I guess I just need to tell the motorfactors that? I've had to put it all back together for now anyway. Something that did concern me was that sitting on top of the old fuel filter were some tiny silver metal filings! is this something I should be concerned about? especially now I've had the filter apart, could any have made it beyond the filter? Where have they come from? Cheers Rob
