  1. Thanks for all the help guys, that's just what I needed to know 😊
  2. I'm in central scotland, nearest town is a place called motherwell.
  3. Hello to one and all 😊 My folks have a Phaeton and they need a set of winter wheels. Alloys won't cut it since the Phaeton is such a heavy car, it needs special 'load rated' wheels apparently, otherwise the wheel could crack 🤷 Phaeton alloys cost a small fortune (when you can find some) so that's been a dead end. We've got load rated winter tyres for it, we just need a set of rims. They decided to go with steel wheels to avoid the weight issue, but it turns out that 17 inch steel wheels are like hens teeth in my part of the world 🤦 I've tried finding mercedes Vito/Viano steel wheels but the only full sets I can find are in the opposite end of the country and it would cost more to travel there than it would to buy them! Can anyone help? Thanks 😊
  4. Might do. But I'm hoping to keep it for as many years as I can, and installing an engine that should slot right in is probably the best option for a first engine swap attempt. Thanks for the input
  5. Yeah! I noticed the similarities between the SDI and the TDI, that's what made me think it wouldn't be too difficult to nail in a better engine. Only thing is the SDI never came in Elegance trim. The 1.9 tdi PD did but they're more expensive and already have a decent power plant...
  6. MlHey there fellow skodians, looking for knowledge and opinion: I have a golf that's waaaaaay beyond saving, but the engine gearbox and running gear are sweet. Was thinking about sourcing a T4 and putting the engine in there but now I think I fancy something a bit more comfy and cosseting as a daily driver. A mk1 Fabia estate, to be specific. I need the boot space for gigging equipment, and I need the AHF so I can run it on bio/veg. Considered a 9n polo estate but the Fabia (especially in Elegance trim) has all the creature comforts I'd want. Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks!
  7. Turns out AnthonyH is onto something. I got to spend my door-lock-fixing time watching the football with cool beer and warm nachos! THANKS!! :D
  8. Thanks so much for all the replies, that's exactly what I needed to know. Had a wee look for an OE replacement but tbh I reckon the best route is what kentphil1 recommended and go for an up-to-date android touchscreen 2din unit. Thanks again dudes and dudesses :)
  9. Again, I don't know...but I have another link: https://www.wheel-size.com According to this, a 2003 Octavia VRS came from the factory with 225/45 R17 and an offset of 38. Maybe compare those 2 sizes and see how big a difference it is (or isn't).
  10. Hi there buddy! Short answer is I don't know. I don't know what your current wheel size, tyre size or offset is. But maybe this link might help: https://www.willtheyfit.com Should give you an idea of what your new wheels and tyres will fit like.
  11. OK, redundant question: What head unit did my 2002 1.8t Elegance 4x4 1U2 come with from the factory? When I got the car there was a 2 DIN space in the dashboard and a CD changer in the boot. There was also a single DIN head unit and a single DIN dashboard pocket rolling around in there, but I'm told neither was an original feature. I want to know what head unit it would originally have had so I can decide if I want to refit the correct one, or if I want to fit an aftermarket thing with all the features of the bridge on the Starship Enterprise. Thanks for any info, Sith
  12. Good luck with the brakes buddy, wish I could help. There are some very knowledgeable people on here so you should be able to find an answer
  13. Hey mixmaster, just saw your post. You still in need, or have you moved on? Sith
  14. Thanks for the input! The golf needs far too much serious and expensive work to be put back on the road, its just not savable. The Octavia conversion - if successful - would give a more usable vehicle. Looking into it, it seems that the Octavia was sold with the 110 bhp AHF engine, so I wouldn't expect there to be any issues with installing the engine, or any wiring loom issues. And it seems the 4x4 system Skoda used is the same one used by Audi in their 110 bhp AHF engined quattro's. So in theory there shouldn't be any compatibility or installation problems. But if anyone knows different I'm eager to learn
  15. Hello all! I currently own a mk4 golf TDI with the 110bhp AHF diesel engine. The bodywork is made of rust and lies, and the brakes and suspension are ruined. The engine and gearbox (electronic LSD) are both still strong as an ox. I have a chance to buy a 1.8t 4x4 Octavia hatch with a disco of warning lights lighting up the dashboard, for very little. I'm interested in putting the AHF diesel engine into the Octavia to make a 4x4 that will run on waste oil. Can anyone tell me if this will work, or am I just letting my enthusiasm outstrip my common sense? Thanks in advance for any replies and help, Sith
