  1. Hello and welcome Very helpful on here. You have bought a good car, dont worry about the mileage, it is just run in! Other people will help with your questions, all I can say is mend it andlook after it and use it and it will serve you well.
  2. Just to clarify I dont want to repair it and use it as I have no use for otherwise that is probably what I would do. I put 200k motorway miles on it with absolutely no problems before letting my freind have it for his surveyor to use in his business. We have more than had our use out of it!.
  3. Have received back from a friend my 2000 X plate Octavia SLX estate 1.9tdi 110 Bhp in Nature Green that I bought new for about £14K. I was a Skoda evangelist in those days. Although it runs and drives and is repairable it is probably beyond economic repair (and that takes a lot for me to say, believe me!) It has done mega mega miles and has served us more than well. But it now needs a new flywheel and clutch, various electric window parts, a brake overhaul, tyres, some bodywork, no doubt a battery, etc etc and is filthy inside from cigar smoke by the previous encumbant. I would think it would make about £150 on eBay and I cant bring myself to just weigh it but wouldnt like to see it put back on the road and abused or cloned. Had some really great times in that car! What should I do with it to maximise its value ? Been thinking about breaking it myself. Which parts are in demand and how best to do it?
  4. I looked yesterday at the scout offer which I didnt know about until earlier this week when it was already was already of date and had to be orderd by end of may. It was £166/month and £1750 deposit based on 10k miles. Now overnight shot up to £179/month and £2190 deposit based on 8K miles. Extra £752 for less mileage. Much less attractive proposition . In fact they all seem to have shot up in cost. The Superb was £149 and £1390 deposit. Is that a "hitting sales targets" thing?? Was going to do some research yesterday but had no spare time in the end. I presume this price is for the small engined scout with manual box?
  5. Thanks everyone. Looking specifically at a scout so not too many direct comparisons about as s/h buys. Specced up the same vehicle on drivethedeal and their discount price was £3k more expensive than the ex demo car. And I will get another quote today for a similar new one from another dealer on the 0% offer scheme . BA Baracus makes a good point!!
  6. Thanks, I will do a comparison. What about the no p/x situation? Thats got to be worth some more money off the asking price??
  7. Hi Dropped into local dealer to pick up a new clutch pedal for the trusty Mk 1 octavia with spaceship miles after it fell off the other day resulting in an entertaining 150 mile drive home, luckily mostly motorway in the middle of the night and with not much traffic about. They had a couple of "interesting" well specced 3 month old demonstrators for sale which resulted in a serious chat over what could be a very expensive cup of Skoda tea. How much discount would you expect to get on a new order VRS or Scout with no px involved, and how should the options fitted to a 3000 mile ex demonstrator affect the cost? They have priced them up starting from the list prices for everything and then deducted about 20% to arrive at the asking price.
  8. If you want a new car, have a new car. But dont change it just cos you think approaching 100k is a problem. It is just run in and should easily do another 100k if you keep the oils changed. Would be a cracking s/h buy for someone! I bought mine with 101K on it, its now done 240k and see no need to change it. Only major expense was a new clutch and flywheel
  9. Supply and demand?? Oversupply surely means reduced s/h prices?? Just need you lot of enthusiastic PCP'ers to get a few scouts into the system!!!
  10. Although i keep thinking about it (which is why I am looking at this thread) and do quite fancy a new scout, I just cant bring myself to take the depreciation hit, no matter how often the dealership finance manager tells me it is a cost effective option and especially whilst my late mk1 estate with spaceship miles and all the toys continues to perform so well. £350.00 all in for the mot this year including some minor repairs 2 tyres and a full service!!
  11. Seriously considering one here to replace the trusty Mk 1 Octy now with spaceship mileage but just cant bring myself to do it. Its the 4th one i've had, and having a brand new car would be a big culture shock and change to the system. Did it once with first Octavia when they were still viewed with scepticism by the masses and the finance offers were good, but vowed never again. Wifey would love one but at that price the money would buy a nice Aston DB7 or go a long way towards a s/h Aston Vantage, and she would love that too! Does look great in white but not sure if its for me, not bad with the spanners but just not too good with the sponge - at least not on a daily driver!!
  12. Went to main dealers to get diesel filter for the trusty Tdi Octavia yesterday after Mrs Moatmeister unfortunately "misfuelled" it. Was told its now a non stocked item but one could be ordered for Tuesday. I told them that the car was only just run in after 10 years and 230k miles, and that I wasnt too impressed for a basic service part and did they expect me to spend £20k plus on a new one just to be able to get the bits for it? At least they rang round the local factors for me. Car now running well again, luckily Wifey only put £8.00 petrol in it and it was virtually empty before!
  13. Original 6 speed box in my 130bhp late Mk1 estate is great! Just ticking over at 70mph with bags of torque. Gear change never felt quite so precise as my previous 5 speed though.
  14. This has been diagnosed to almost certainly the dmf. Most cost effective solution?? Replace or convert to single mass flywheel?? If so with which bits please??
  15. I like it. But I agree about the purity of the original Audi Allroad. When you see an immaculate one of those I have to say it still looks a great car!
  16. Has the car got Skoda Drive Assist? the system for encouraging drivers to keep out of the middle lane?
  17. My trusty 2004 Octy Mk1 estate has the 130BHP engine and 6 speed box. It has done 220,000 motorway miles with hardly a spanner on it apart from 2 cambelts and a steering rack. I have done 120k of that and previously it was a lease car with full Skoda SH. Recently it has been getting difficult to change gear, particularly 1st to second when cold but all the gears seem "baulky" and there is a rattling noise which goes away when the clutch gets depressed. It is still drivable but needs sorting as economically as possible as it is still a good car and I was hoping to get another year or so out of it before I replace it, (maybe with a new Scout ) I presume this car has a dual mass flywheel. Is it likely to be this or the gearbox playing up? If it is the DMF should I convert it to SMF on hopefully a cost saving basis and what parts should I use?
  18. Having had several Mk1 Octavia estates going back to a metallic purple S reg demonstrator on loan for a couple of days when they were first invented, I think they are great cars. Current one is a late 04 with the big engine and six speed box showing more miles than the Starship Enterprise. That little plastic clip on the lower offside windscreen, what a simple but great idea! But what is it actually for?? I always assumed it was for holding pay and display tickets etc to avoid having to stick them on the inside of the windscreen. Drove the trusty Skoda 2000 miles to Prague and back on business last month. Obviously Skodas everywhere but mainly shiny new ones. Our car with strange english plates and the driver on the wrong side got a few second glances. In 10 days saw only one rear engined one. Even early Favorits and Felicias are not common. I thought I had at last solved the mystery of the little clip. When travelling on the Czech motorways you need to buy a Vignette, a little ticket which half must be filled in with the vehicle reg number and kept in the car and the other half displayed in the windscreen. It was well after midnight when we got to the Czech border and having been travelling all day we just wanted to get to the hotel. Stopped and bought the pass from a little cabin at the first services we came to. The bloke was friendly but spoke no English. The info on the back clearly showed to display the ticket on the lower offside, where the little clip is, (which would be on the wrong side in a LHD car for the car park tickets). Obviously that is what it was designed for! 15 year mystery solved! We left Prague a few days later and got pulled up by the Czech Police, spot checking the Vignettes. Ours was in date and clearly displayed but because it was behind the clip and not stuck to the windscreen (you are meant to peel off a layer of clear plastic to make it sticky) it landed me a 300Kc on the spot fine, about a tenner! The police spoke perfect english and gave me a leaflet which fully explained what to do with the sticker. They agreed that the shortened instructions (in Czech) on the back of the Vignette where not clear but would not budge about the fine. Having looked at their guns, I decided to cut my losses and not push the point any further! The moral of this story is never assume anything!!
  19. Hi Looking for advice on best place to sell and price to ask for a nice un-modded well maintained VRS estate 130k miles with full service history. Would I be correct in assuming values have taken a hit recently as the Mk2s are getting older? Tried it on ebay with a good listing a couple of months ago and best offer was £1500. Very disheartening for such a lovely car! Would rather keep it for that sort of money but was really planning on selling to fund house extension. Any ideas please?
  20. Hi Steve I have a similar problem on my 03 VRS estate. Part of it has died completely and the rest works intermittantly. Did you do this repair with the light still in the spoiler attached to the car, or did you take the spoiler off?
  21. I have done that. Seems to be plenty of info relating to VRS fabias but couldnt find too much about octavia VRS thats why I asked!
