  1. hey guys...... looks like i am the latest victim of the ticking time bomb i.e. the 1.8 tsi engine..... today i was changing the spark plugs an behold found the spark plugs on piston 2 and 3 are oily. 1 is fine and 4 is not so fine. I guess i will have to get th pistons and the rings changed. Since i am supposed to change the pistons and rings i might as well get forged pistons this time. Will be changing my water pump as well as the chain tensioner. Please can u guys help me so as to where i can get the parts from? Links and suggestions are welcome.
  2. This sounds like an interesting retrofit. Would you please be kind enough to give a list of parts that i may need to get to convert my single zone to dual zone. And if u can give an idea of the whole procedure then it will be of more help. My car is a 2010 skoda octavia mk2 1.8 tsi ambiente.
  3. Hey guys greetings to all from the skoda family. I have a skoda octavia(Laura) mk2 with 1.8 tsi engine. Now the engine is a blast to drive and i love the car even with its flaws n reliability issues. Browsing the forums i found out that the 1.8tsi has a lingering piston rung wear issue and cam chain tensioner issue and as i boughth the car used i dont know if the previous owner has taken care of it or no. But since i love my car n would like to keep it i have a few questions and would b glad if u guys can help me. I am aware that the CDAA code engine that is in my car is turbocharged and can be modded easily so i would like to ask that if the engine eventually conks off on me then is it possible i can change the piston n crank size to make it a 2.0tsi. I am led to believe its the same block with just the stroke if the 1.8 being small so if i am supposed to spend a bomb to remake the engine then is it a good idea to make it a 2.0. Or if i want to go wild and source a 3.6 vr6 engine from a skoda superb then is it possible to replace my 1.8 tsi for a NA 3.6 vr6. Thank u in advance for your time n patience.
  4. yeah both need to be taken care off but still if one is spending on the engine rebuild anyways it wont hurt to pay a bit extra and get a better engine altogether.
  5. no idea bro but would like to know more about it from someone more experienced here.
  6. Sorry for sounding stupid but if the 1.8tsi engine is prone to drinking oil and blowing up then wouldnt it be better to just greplace it with oversizzed pistons and rebore the engine to 2.0tfsi as i have heard the architecture of both the engines are the same. This would be a a rather positive approach other than the grim fate of the brilliant 1.8tsi engine. DONT U GUYS THINK.
  7. I edited it as i remember i am using 5w40 itself. Was pondering on the idea of using 0w40 but then thought to play safe rather than sorry. Approx. 300-500 ml per 1000 kms higher side on a heavy foot.
  8. I followed my car using my bike and asked my friend to drive my car.......no smoke whatso ever from the car even on load. My car has done 63k kms in total which i dont think is a reason for the leak. I regularly change oil in 10k kms or 1 year and have been doing so for 3 years. I have observed one more thing that the car consumes more oil only if i am driving enthusiastically and with a heavy foot. On a light foot the oil consumptions r signafically less. Almost acceptable.
  9. Hey bro......nice to see someone from India as well. Skoda suggests Castrol for our service centres but i use MOTUL 8100 X-cess or 8100 X-max. Engine runs more freely and rev happy. Its is VW 502 00/505 00 grade so i guess u can use it on your diesel engine also. Change interval is 10k kms for me or 1 year. But i change oil earlier according to requirement. You can buy it at a good deal from amazon.in from where i buy it normally.
  10. Hey i am using a 1.8 tsi CDAA engine in my 2010 octavia mk2. I am quite happy with the vehicle but i have some lingering issues with my engine where it starts consuming oil. I tried noticing but couldnt find a drop in power or any blue smoke from the exhaust. There isnt even a drop of oil from any part of the vehicle so the car is not even leaking oil from any parts. Can u guys help me out with this piecular problem i have. Is this normal with this engine? I was also told that this car needs a timing chain swap after certain kms. run....... Can someone shed some light on it please. Thanks in advance.
  11. Can u guys guide me to forums where i can get to troubleshooting and some cool stuff on my car.
  12. Hello guys, greetings from INDIA. I am Alex n i own a skoda octavia mk2 (Laura as its called over here). I found out about this place through my friend as he knows i always wanted to work on my car. Looking dmfor guidance on workig on my 1.8tsi.
  13. @langers2k sir i too have an octavia mk2 with the 1.8tsi motor and would like to upgrade my cars headlamps to the adaptive xenon headlamps. Would you please share the VCDS coding for me to activate it on my car and in case if its not much trouble direct me to a place where i can get the whole headlamp cluster.
