  1. What are you looking at as a replacement? Keep looking myself but most stuff looks overpriced, fat and lardy or a combination of the two I must be going soft in my old age but 308 looks interesting AND light, 308 GT could end up being an interesting package......
  2. How much do you reckon I'd get for my 60 plate TSI Estate? Immaculate 1 owner with 42k miles FSSH..... I don't need the space anymore, in fact I could prolly get away with a Mini, lol
  3. A pollen filter is £9 and they only replace it every 2 years I don't need some gorilla mechanic 'raping' my car on a test drive to tell me that it's running ok :peek: To be fair to my local dealer, I've had great service and the prices have been 'reasonable' I might actually pay them £50 for less than 30 minutes work to get a stamp in the service book....
  4. Seems a lot, what was the split between parts and labour? FYI, my VRS has 42k at 4 years, the rear discs are badly corroded, no warning lights they just look BAD! I priced up the parts about £60 for 2 discs and pads....
  5. Buy this stuff off ebay... Genuine Oil Filter (offer at £6) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171503617439? Sump plug £1.25 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181574636252? 504/507 oil £21.98 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390814452989? Total £29.23! Just need to dig out my old laptop with vag com on it to check for any errors and reset the service indicator :coffee:
  6. Nice vid cheers  Looks like a bit of a pita job, mind you I liked the way he cleaned all the rust off the hub
  7. Cheers for that. Looks like I've got 1KT which might be some cheapo pads at £21.54 - just need to suss out the discs now... Edit: yeah it looks like 282mm discs Anybody know if this is a straightforward job? ie do you need one of those stoopid tools to wind the caliper back in for the handbrake?
  8. Can somebody please tell me the replacement parts for these discs and pads? I googled bosch 020420848 but it pretty much came up with sweet fa :S
  9. I'd buy some second hand alloys off ebay/gumtree, get some cheap winter tyres from these guys in germany http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/ (only take a couple of days to arrive) then get your local 'alloy wheel specialist' to stick them together I did this a few years ago - some 16" Audi alloys only cost £40 off ebay (ok 17s will be a bit more expensive) and I think the winter tyres were less than £50 a pop I know the old stud pattern will still fit the latest Octavia as the wife nicked em last year and stuck them on her Mk7 Golf EDit: Chr!st that's a cheap 17" winter tyre at £46.69 and it's a Continental http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/continental/conti-winter-contact-ts810/215-65-r17-98t-183051 the Germans are literally giving this stuff away, you Brits have never had it so good
  10. Yes very good Freud, I think I'll come here more often for my psychotherapy
  11. The spec isn't!!!! You're still having difficulty believing my original post aren't you? Look all I want is one of the best engines in the world at a reasonable price, why is that so unreasonable? I think you've been brainwashed into accepting high prices, lol Edit: I'm actually starting to believe I can get it even cheaper now after checking out those czech prices
  12. Who mentioned a 1.2? The minimum I will take is 1.4 (PRICES BASED ON A 1.4!( Ok it's the old one and actually I'm holding out for the new ACT version :p Look, Skoda UK deam that the min spec for a 1.4 is SE at circa £20k. The rest of Europe disagree...... The price difference is humongous!!! So ok I'm happy paying UK vat on an £11k 1.4 Octavia.....on the other hand I might go and live in Europe, I think the 'wealth effect' is starting to wear a bit thin over here lol
  13. You need to keep up, we're down to circa £8800 for a basic 1.4 from the Czech republic Maybe it is a load of 'hassle' to buy a car in Prague, pay tax in Luxembourg, live in France for a month or so, then finally register it in the UK to save many thousands of pounds..... I'll study the VAT issues closer but I thought the whole issue of a united Europe was no borders, no import tax, VAT only gets paid once???? Long live the EU! lol
  14. So the export price could be as low as 291,000Kc???? That's circa £8500 (I'm double checking my calculator isn't broken) I'm frothing at the mouth now, when can I come over and what are the delivery times over there? lol PS not business, personal, but will start a business for that sort of discount ;-)
  15. PS the latest 1.2 has 110ps and I reckon power to weight ratio matters more than length, oooeeerrr Mrs The online car websites seem to rave about the 1,2 so I guess it must be pretty good :coffee:
  16. That must be really useful when you're sitting at the traffic lights with a chavved up Vauxhall Corsa sat next to you PS my wife's 1.4 petrol Golf gets better mpg than that, does 0-60 in about 8 secs and can max out at about 135mph. Personally don't see the point of diesels nowadays but each to their own
  17. Hi Is it 21% VAT? I see you can get a basic 1.4 for 404,900Kc (see attached pdf) Does that include VAT? I fancy to trip to Prague to pick up a new Octavia, you have some absolutely gorgeous ladies over there! :cocktail: Thanks octavia-cenik-cz.pdf
  18. Another interesting post thanks Yes I heard about the lower Vat rate in Luxembourg, I know they always have long queues for the petrol on the motorways as well! Do you have to have a 'home address' in Luxembourg to register a car there? ie I'm wondering if I can save 5% on vat over UK by registering there first
  19. Cheers chaps, good point about the rear suspension How do I go about weighing the wife's Mk7 Golf GT? The stupid price she paid for that it must have fancy suspension
  20. Interesting thanks Do you have to much any luxury/high performance tax on cars in Belgium?
  21. Christ almighty that's £46500, how much of that is tax?
  22. 16" steelies fit the previous VRS, has the new one got bigger brakes/calipers?
  23. Hello to all you Europe residents :sun: Mind posting what you paid for your nice shiny new Octavia? More interested in the ex-tax € price, I know some places like Denmark and Netherlands used to have a large amount of 'luxury tax' I presume this still applies? Merci/Danke/Gracias/Tak !!!!
