  1. Hi Snowie here. Number 17 on the list. Just been offered 100% parts and 50% labour from Skoda. However, dealer can't tell me what the labour costs will be. (Hmm!!!!!) Anyone got an idea of how the costs to repair this breaks down. I.E. How much (roughly) will I pay? Cheers Update. Sorry folk....just read Bev Elliots article in the Sunday Post. Looks like 50% labour is around £67. Good luck to all those still trying.

  3. Hi, and thanks for replying. The car has never had an oil change, not even after 1000 miles, which I thought strange, but was told it was not required. So, this is the first time it has had anything done to the engine. The oil I use to top up is that recommended by the owners handbook. It costs about £40 for 4 litres, so I imagine it must be good stuff. It hasn't really required much in the way of topping up. One of the reasons I went for this car was the 20k mile service interval. Just feel a bit 'done by', as it needs servicing after only 14k miles. Thanks again. Snowie
  4. Not too sure how this 'variable' service interval works ! I have a Octavia 4x4 2.0TDi. Bought new March 2007. Was told at the time of buying, 'servicing was every 20k miles, or two years'. It now has 13,500 miles on the clock, 15 months old, and service warning light stating service required in 500 miles. 14k miles and 15 months old is a bit short of 20k miles or two years, as stated at time of purchase. The car is driven to and from work, (20 miles there, 20 miles back), 3 or 4 times a week, 60-70 mph for the majority of the journey, plus some fairly long trips of greater than 180 miles once a month or so. So, is 14k service interval miles okay for this type of driving, or should I be expecting a bit more, i.e. nearer the 20k miles? Anyone got any thoughts on this?
  5. Got a new (1 month old) Octavia estate 4x4. There is a hellish rattle from the passenger side of of the dashboard. Possibly in the air-vent. Any ideas what this could be before I take it back to the dealer? It sounds like a bag of loose plastic washers in a plastic box. It's driving me crazy. Also, in the storage compartment of the armrest, the is an "AUX" socket. Can't find any info on this in the manual. Can I plug my iPod into this, and will it play thru the car stereo? If so, what type of lead do I use to do this? Cheers. Angus
  6. Just bought a new Octavia Estate. Thought it might be a good idea to be able to play my iPod through the audio system. The dealer wants
  7. Drive the deal price for Nissan is £20938, then I have to sell the Fabia privately.
  8. Nissan x-trail Columbia 2.2 dci brand new £21825, less Nissan Deal £1500, less Fabia exchange £2600. Change over price £17725. Less ?a bit more if ordered this week. Octavia Elegance 2.0PDI (140 bhp), reg 16.06.06, 10k miles £16000, less Fabia exchange £2500. Change over price £13500 Octavia 2,0 PDI (140 bhp) 4x4 reg 03.01.07, 1600 miles demo, £17748 less Fabia exchange £2500. Change over price £15248. Recon on another £500 off the Nissan. Skoda say thats the best they can do, and don't seem too bothered if they loose out. Nissan seems best offer to me.
  9. I'm looking to change my Skoda Fabia for either a new Octavia estate or moving to Nissan for the x-trail. The deal on the Nissan is excellent, but will cost more. The deal on the Octavia is not so good. (Only
  10. One of the above replies says.... "probably only a sensor". I too had this "probably only a sensor" warning light, and it cost £750 to repair. This did include a service right enough, "probably £100 or so", so it "probably" wasn't to bad. Aye that'll be right !!!!!!!!!!
  11. I own a Fabia 1.4 16v 41000 miles on the clock. Been having problems with the engine management warning light coming on. In the morning, starting from cold, it comes on after driving about 1/4 of a mile, (carefully). It remains on for my 19 mile journey to work. If I stop/start the engine it remains on. When I finish at 5pm, start the engine and the light goes out. It remains out during any driving I do in the evening. The lambda probes were replaced about 12000 miles ago. Engine oil, coolant are okay. Car seems to run fine with or without the light. I live in Inverness, so taking it to the local Skoda dealer is not an option as they are next to useless, and a bunch of ripoff crooks. (I don't like them !!!!). Haven't found a local independant garage yet. Any ideas or suggestions. I was wondering about the condition of the battery? i.e. it may be a bit flat after sitting overnight. Cheers
  12. Hi found Briskoda while searching for some info on my bog standard Fabia. The engine managemant warning light keeps coming on. From what I can find, it could be anything a loose tail light bulb to low oil level. Weird?? The Inverness dealer wants to change the lambda probes. Even although they were changed 12000 miles ago at some considerable cost. Anyhow, does anyone know how to reset the warning light without engine diagnostic computer things? I used to drive a Rover, and to reset the immobilizer, insert the key into the door lock, turn it to the left 4 times, to the right 3 times, all while standing on one foot with your left hand on your head. (Something like that !) Is there anything similar for the Skoda???? Finally, are there any good 'independant' garages for service/repairs for Skodas in or around Inverness? The Inverness dealer doesn't inspire confidence and seems more interested in selling me a new car than repairing his one. Cheers Snowie
