  1. Well..... it came back from the garage with a new clutch and flywheel and a pocket/wallet a lot lighter 🥴 The spring was replaced and the leaking fuel was sorted. It drives better but the rumbling noise is still present at the back, very loud at speeds of around 50,60,70 in 5th and 6th gears. The mechanic suggested its the haldex unit and that it wouldn't be worth doing 😬 🙁
  2. Hey folks, hope y'all are well and you survived the BS zombie apocalypse we've been subjected to over the last few years 😁 Just an update..... I still have the car, what can I say? I love it 🤣👍 It is currently (and finally) getting the clutch and DMF replaced 😁 I mentioned the grumbling noise from the back and the garage will investigate it properly when they're working on it. Also have a leaking fuel cooler (which I didn't know was on the car 🤣) and a broken spring which is being done. Lot of work in the garage. The car has passed 200k miles and will hopefully give me another 200k 😁👌 Will let you know about grumble noise 👍
  3. That same bulb at euro car parts is currently £71 more expensive, per bulb! Ouch 🤯
  4. Hello everyone, I am back with the same ongoing issue concerning the vibration coming from the rear at certain rev ranges mostly in 5th & 6th gear, which disapears when clutch is pressed. After once again scouring the site for information I noticed one user had success replacing the 'front and rear bushes on the prop shaft' to eliminate what appears to be the same problem I have. Car is just back from its MOT and after getting another garage to look into the problem, this time the mechanic is pretty sure it's not the rear diff that is causing the vibration. One garage stated my propshaft looks good, bearings appear ok etc One garage thinks it could be related to propshaft 😕 Does anyone know names/locations/part numbers to purchase these bushes? 3 different garages with different theories what it could be. I don't have the cash for them to experiment in trying to eliminate the problem. I am eager to sort it as my DMF needs replaced and I don't want to get that done until I can have the rear vibration succesfully diagnosed. The noise/feeling from the DMF is different from that at the rear of the car. Thank you
  5. Hello, I know this was a number of years ago but do you remember any information about the bushes you replaced? I have similiar problems to your description and action is needed sooner rather than later. Do you have any part numbers available for your replaced parts? If not, do you have exact names of the parts? Thank you
  6. I would imagine so but am reluctant to have the flywheel/clutch changed at present just in case, but I feel I need to decide soon as the flywheel I feel is going quickly. If the deep rumbling noise at the rear of the car is associated to the flywheel, and the flywheel is just sending vibrations to the rear then fantastic, I will go ahead with the flywheel. My concern though is that I fork out for the flywheel & clutch replacement and that doesn't solve the problem and I end up needing a new rear diff or something as well. It just wouldn't be worth it and I cannot afford it anyway. Thinking as I write this, the original specialist I took the car to who diagnosed the flywheel did mention something about the vibrations from the flywheel possibly causing the noise & vibrations at the rear. If it's not the DMF then how would dipping the clutch alter any vibration and noise behaviour at the rear diff? I ask this in pure ignorance 🙂
  7. Thank you for that. Yes I have a similiar noise to that, my car pretty much reacts like yours in the video, I am just concerned about the noise coming from the rear of the car. If the noise at the rear is also a symptom of the DMF then thats great but I am reluctant at present to change the DMF in case there is an uneconomical bill due for whatever the issue is with the rear noise.
  8. Yes after rechecking I noticed I had replied some time ago to someone in the yeti section. I just wanted to provide an update to the people that had replied to me
  9. Thank you for your reply. I was providing an update to previous posts discussing this and other issues, I would hardly consider it spamming though.
  10. Hello all, here is a bit of an update to this ongoing saga - and it's still ongoing 😭 The flywheel is definatley not perfect as was suggested but the mechanic doesn't think it's worth changing at the moment. I think his reasoning is partly related to my cash flow as well as his general outlook. The rear silencer is fine, that's not the issue. After picking up the car the mechanic advised that he found small bits of metal when he renewed the haldex oil (it's only done about 5 or 6k since the last haldex oil change) but he is sure that the haldex is not the problem. He topped up the rear diff oil and said it took about 100ml. He said the diff oil was quite smelly ( I actually forgot to ask him to change the diff oil but he is going to do so before MOT next month). He also pointed out that there was a little oil around the driveshaft seals. He can't say exactly where that very loud rumbling noise is coming from and recommends to keep driving it until it gets worse and becomes easier to diagnose. I am not particularly in favour of this as for me, it has gotten a lot worse already! The noise dissapears when I put my foot on the clutch and sometimes it's hard to have a conversation with someone in the back due to them not hearing me properly over the noise as it comes from the rear. He reiterated that the propshaft bearings etc are good. He knows I don't have a lot of cash to spare and is doing what he can to assist but I need to know whats up so I can better decide what to do! Yes the flywheel needs done which I would do but I am not inclined to do so if something like the rear diff is also needing replaced. I love this car, LOVE it and I want to keep it but realistically .... Unfortanately my last car unexpectedally had problems which meant getting rid of it suddenly. I had to take out a loan to cover remaining finance plus buy another (this octavia) so for this car to now be in this position, I am a bit up ****'s creek. If anyone can offer any suggestions it would be much appreciated 🙂

  12. Hi, coming back to this as it is still an ongoing problem. I have been discussing in this thread. Could you give me a rough idea how much it would cost to replace the haldex? Thank you
  13. Ok, car went into the garage yesterday and I had a little update today after phoning. The mechanic is now ruling out the rear silencer as being of any cause and is inclined to think the problem may be the haldex system (I think he also mentioned drivetrain suspicion, I may be wrong with this though - my work van also broke down today so I have information overload atm with dealing with ongoing problems on van). He has ordered some haldex oil which shall arrive tomorrow and he will top up however he told me that he placed a small bit of wire inside the haldex to check oil and the tiny bit that was inserted didnt show any oil inside. He won't know how empty it is until he tops it up. I also had this thought a while back as the garage that done my haldex oil and filter change last year had a right royal pain doing the job. See here for details on another thread. Did this other garage put enough oil into haldex in the end? If they lost some from leaking issues did they purchase another oil tube or just bung what was left from the one tube? How would I prove this to the previous garage if this was the case? Am I screwed? Could the issues with noise be caused by haldex whereby: the noise dissapears when clutch is pressed, it's louder in certain speed & gear ranges. The noise is now more present whatever the speed/gear. A deep rumble with occasional rattle thrown in which disapears when clutch is pressed. The mechanic checked again the flywheel and reiterated that there is only a little play and nothing to really warrant changing it over just yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This car is getting worse unfortunately and I really can't be in another situation just now where I have to scrap and start again. 😪
  14. Thank you, I think I'll get the diff oil done. They are going to check the haldex oil for me anyway after speaking to them about another garage doing the haldex oil and filter change earlier in the year
