I have a 2.5 tdi V6 of 2002 vintage 155 bhp which I have had from new, I have changed the fuel filter many times but on this occasion I must be going senile , I filled the new filter with clean diesel, refitted the two pipes and return- at which point I normally turn the ignition on /off a few times until I see fuel coming out of the outlet pipe, fit up,check connections and start engine , pretty simple! On this occasion I could not get the electric pump in the fuel tank to feed fuel through to the filter by switching ignition on /off, before starting I ended up checking the fuel pump actually was working by attaching a battery to the positive (green wire feed) and negative (brown wire feed) , this cranked up the in tank electric pump and filled the filter and spewed diesel out of the outlet pipe ,removed battery and the car then started and is running fine- my question is , does switching on/off the ignition means it ought to prime the pump ? , as a further check there appears to be no voltage reading @ green + wire on the pump when the ignition is switched on , so either the car is fine (as I am beginning to suspect) or there is a fault which need further checking- I see various posts on fuel pumps with suggestions that suction is required - I have never had an issue before with this or other cars - am I really going senile ?? !! Thanks for any information received
