  1. Hi, so it turns out the loud noise was a wheel bearing not the turbo (clearly I know very little about car noises). There was something the matter with the turbo but just a minor issue something to do with airflow I think. Sorry Tony I don't know what turbo you would need, surely your mechanic could advise you though?
  2. Hi, So about once a fortnight or so my 2.0 tdi would seemingly loose power after about 2500 rpm. I would pull over and play around with a hose I think to do with the turbo and happy days it would be fine again. It's not needed doing for a while now but I have noticed that the noise coming from the turbo seems to have got louder, so much so that my ears are hurting after my drive home. Is this anything to be concerned about? Any ideas how to sort it out?
  3. Just taken my 05 Octavia Estate to have the air con re-gassed but they said it has a leak. They put some uv dye in the system and said to go back in 2 weeks, still took the full £30 for the re-gas though despite my protests. My question for you all is whether anyone has had to have their air con system fixed following a leak and how much they had to pay out? I know it will depend on what's gone wrong and where the leak is, just looking for a high/low cost idea???
  4. @KenONeill I'm not sure tbh as I'm not the most mechanically minded. I secured all the pipes/hoses going into the turbo that were not in their clips. I'm guessing maybe a blockage in the pipes or maybe they were pinched and running more free now in the clips?
  5. Yeah it was fine on the way home and has been since. Thanks anyway.
  6. So I've not had the a/c turned on since my original post and had no burning smell. Not got round to having it checked out but will update when I do.
  7. Hi, So this morning I was travelling up the duel carriageway to work between 5th/6th gear at around 70mph. The car seemed to lose power and was taking ages to go beyond 2500 rpm. Any ideas what this might be? Some of the pipes/hoses going into the turbo had come away from their housing clips, I reconnected them and on a short drive it seemed ok but not gone past 40mph. Fingers crossed for my drive home. The car is Octavita 05 2.0 tdi estate.
  8. I don't think the car is fitted with DPF tbh. I didn't even try to put the a/c on this morning on my way to work and no burning smell. I'm thinking maybe the a/c compressor could be knackered?
  9. Hi, I brought an 05 Octavia 2.0 tdi estate yesterday. Drove it back from work today and noticed a burning rubber type smell when I parked up. I had tried to turn the air con on while driving but it wasn't working. Read a few things saying it could be air con. Does anyone know if it could be this or something else and how to fix?
