  1. Hi. I need to replace the above item, car is a 1.9 Tdi (BXE code). Is it a difficult job? Any helpful advice or tips appreciated. Thanks.
  2. My poor old car is in the wars again. The mileage is really starting to take its toll. 396k think I have a failing injector now. car idles fine but once revs are above 1500 under load the noise and vibration are nasty. the problem is intermittent though which is perplexing me. I'm taking car to garage tomorrow but I'd like to think I know what's going on. anybody had a similar failure and what were the symptoms?
  3. Thanks Lofty, it started as a high rev, high load limp mode and cycling the ignition "fixed" the problem but developed into permanent limp within a couple of weeks which is why the Mr Muscle was tried. Car has been scanned by main dealer and only thing that came up was a faulty boost sensor which has been replaced with no result.

  5. Done this today. Nightmare trying to get at the lower EGR pipe but got it eventually. Followed loftys instructions to the letter but car is still the same. Zero power above 2000 rpm. Can't even get the car to redline in 2nd or 3rd going downhill! Car is seriously sick. Seized turbo maybe? I've reached the limits of my abilities anyway.
  6. HELP! I've spent a few very frustrating hours today trying to get at the lower egr pipe. My engine is the BXE model and seems very tight at back of engine. How much stripping do I need to do??? Any advice greatly appreciated.
  7. None Steve. I get the oil and filter changed every 60k by main dealer. The car gets a mix of driving. I do like to wring its neck from time to time. There is another guy on here with almost 600k on his dsg but its mostly fast main road mileage. Mine is 90% suburban/city driving with a lot of shifting. Another taxi driver here retired recently (lucky git) with 515k on his dsg. The wet clutch dsg is a seriously tough box. I wonder will the newer dry clutch ones be as good.
  8. It's been scanned by main dealer, came up as a failed boos pressure sensor, they replaced it even though they were pretty sure that WASN'T the problem. Car still in limp mode. Car has 370k but is mechanically sound. Was given a clean bill of health just two months ago by main dealer. They're scratching their heads, say they've never come across this before ( which I find a little bit hard to swallow).
  9. 1.9tdi, DSG as well. Engine giving a slight problem with power loss at moment but I don't think it's too serious.
  10. Yep, ordered OE today. Only way to go.
  11. As the title suggests my T diddly i has developed a bit of a problem. Has had an intermittent fault whereby if engine is under heavy load it'll cut power and go into limp mode. Cycling the ignition usually clears the fault and away ye go. However it cut power the other day and has stayed in limp mode ever since. Main dealer has had the car twice this week with no joy locating the problem! Car feels like its strangled. Anybody?
  12. Mine on 370k now with no gearbox problems at all. Not as smooth as it used to be but still sweet enough.
  13. This is a taxi we are talking about, not a vRS :-)
  14. I need to replace my front springs, they both went boing and snapped at 370k. Spurious are half the price of main dealer. What would YOU do?
  15. Having owned an '03 mk1 1.9Tdi and an '06 mk2 1.9Tdi concurrently I can state that they are NOT the same mechanically. Might be same block and internals but not a lot of interchangeable ancillary parts engine wise.
  16. Serviced my Octavia last week, nothing unusual, did all the filters including the fuel one (I do the fuel filter every 2nd service), no problems at all until a couple of days ago when the car took a lot of churning before it caught and it did it again today. Seems to be completely random, I can't repeat it so quite difficult to pin down.I thought maybe air in the fuel system from changing the fuel filter but surely it wouldn't take over a week to start causing problems? I have replaced the fuel filter probably 10-12 times over the life of the car and have never had a problem. Coincidence? Any ideas anyone??
  17. My 1.9TDi DSG (303,000km) averages 6.2L/100km. whats that in old money? Car is a taxi in Dublin city with a 60km commute on B roads at each end of shift. I would NEVER buy a manual 'box again. If they ever stop making the DSG, I will start walking. Just one niggle, did VW deliberately over engineer the early DSG box just to make sure of a good reputation? Will later, more recent DSG 'boxes have the same robustness?
  18. I was about to post the question "what's the higest mileage recorded on a DSG Octavia" but it seems to have been well and truely answered in this thread. My Octavia (taxi) has just passed 300,000km (187,000miles) and spends most of its life in traffic, shifts are getting a bit clunky now but I think this is attributable to a worn inner CV joint rather than any problem with the 'box. I really would love to see another 200k as the car itself is still immaculate inside and out, it would easily pass for something with less than 80k km on it. Long live the DSG!
  19. Had a chat with the dealer this morning and that's pretty much what he said. Ah well, we'll keep trucking so.
  20. Oops! you're right! posted at 1am after a hard nights work, can the mods move it please?
  21. Not much help there Jonny boy! they've been known to run to 500k once they're looked after.
  22. Well it's finally happened! My car has just given it's first hint that all is not well in the gearbox dept. Driving this evening at urban speeds (4th or 5th gear) when the PRNDS started to flash and car wouldn't shift up or down the 'box. I stopped the car, switched off ignition and then back on and all is normal. Car has gotten louder in the last week or so, like a bearing grumble but I don't know if it's connected to this latest problem or not. I'll be taking car to the dealer tomorrow but has anyone come across this? Car has 252k km up.
  23. Can any Irish owners recommend somewhere? Preferably Sth Dublin, Nth Kildare, Nth Wicklow area. Cheers. Or failing that, how does adjust the alignment? I suspect it can't all be done via the trackrods!
