  1. Hope they have caught it before is messed up the engine and may only need replacing with the new modified tensioner
  2. Oh eBay it seems you can get an engine for 1.5k but I imagine with ancillaries and labor involved is what's adding up to 3.5k.
  3. Update Engine is shot. No compression with rods, pistons, etc, bent, broken or in the wind place. Mechanic thinks leaking oil and inherent design issues caused timing chain to slip and cause mayhem in the engine. Next step - 3.5k to rebuild engine but given the car is on 125k scrap is the sensible solution. Time to start searching for a new wagon. Certainly not from vag stable most likely from the far East.
  4. I believe my scout is now destined for the grave. Seems the vag tsi malaise has finally called its number. Yesterday when picking up kids from school I had difficulty starting the car but dismissed it as low battery what with audio on, ac while waiting. Eventually after second cranking for maybe 15 seconds started and we drove home. Later in the evening i went out and when i attempted to start the car it was a repeat of the incidence earlier on. Once when driving it was certainly low on power and engines was misfiring. I pulled over to the side of road and 3 times tried too start the car but it will not fire up. Called for breakdown and the guy plugged it in and recovered these codes P0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected,P03011 cylinder 1 misfire detected, P0300 random/multiple cylinder detected, P0016 crankshaft position - camshaft position correllation bank 1sensor A and P2015 intake manifold position sensor/ switch circuit range/perfomance bank 1a. All the codes come back even after being cleared. Seems the car has an oil leak because there appears to be quite a bit of oil underneath the car from where it was standing for 3 hours. and oil level was well below minimum on the dipstick. My garage is closed for the weekend but will see(confirm) diagnosis on Monday. Just seems to me that at 125K cost of repair will far exceed value of the car. Updates on Monday
  5. Thanks for the reply. I'm optimistically leaning towards a mis fitted oil filter because i remember after the service when i had the car home i opened the bonnet to check the state of the engine bay and found a screw driver stuck under the plastic engine cover. Obviously not the sign of quality workmanship so maybe plenty more short cuts taken when servicing the car. I have time off next wek so may get it to a specialist for a check before thinking the next step
  6. My 09 tsi estate had a interim service last month and a couple of weeks later when i made a tight turn at speed the epc light and low oil warning light flashed up and the engine started sounding like a bag of spanners fighting to escape and car lost power. A few seconds later when car was level again everything seems to have returned to normal with the car accelerating ok. Since then this has happened twice, once when parked up a steep hill and also again when quickly turning around a tight corner. I've checked the oil level and level is more or less within the expected level and the car drives normal. The engine does sound a lot more rattly especially when started in the morning but then it's got 125 k miles and i've never had to add oil in the last 5000 miles i've owned the car. I'm speculating it's the dreaded tsi malaise but not sure how to proceed. Any ideas from the forum?
  7. I've had a look at the link and well impressed. Admittedly my spanner skills will fail me in such a project but i will be doing the interior LED conversion. Incidentally how can i know if my scout is facelift? Am i able to see the details from a auto scan. It was registered on 01, June 2009.
  8. Interesting. If I were to retrofit xenons I suppose I will need the capability coded via VCDS to work properly.
  9. Thanks due the links, although I cannot be confident I know how the affect the running of the car. So far the car is running ok with no loss of power and the EPC light behaves as expected. I guess it's best to have a specialist have a look. BTW, I thought the headlamp cleaning system was only fitted to cars with xenon headlights while my car definitely has halogen bulbs.
  10. Hi, had a VCDS scan and come up with 3 errors, , 01-Engine -- Status: Malfunction 0010,09-Cent. Elect. -- Status: Malfunction 0010 and 00924 - Relay for Headlamp Cleaning System (J39) 009 - Open or Short to Ground. I googled the last error and it was actually fuse 36 for the head light cleaning that was burnt. I'll get the fuse replaced Monday and see how it goes. I'm hoping some one on here will suggest the reason for errors 1 and 2 and possible fixes. I have attached the scan for the relevant errors. 3 Faults Found: 008196 - Intake Manifold Flap; Bank 1 P2004 - 000 - Stuck Open Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 01100000 Fault Priority: 0 Fault Frequency: 1 Reset counter: 255 Mileage: 192297 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2012.09.17 Time: 17:25:01 Freeze Frame: RPM: 922 /min Load: 39.2 % Speed: 9.0 km/h Temperature: 86.0°C Temperature: 47.0°C Absolute Pres.: 1000.0 mbar Voltage: 13.843 V 008213 - Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor (Bank 1) P2015 - 000 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 11100000 Fault Priority: 0 Fault Frequency: 1 Reset counter: 255 Mileage: 192297 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2012.09.17 Time: 17:25:02 Freeze Frame: RPM: 1397 /min Load: 20.4 % Speed: 11.0 km/h Temperature: 86.0°C Temperature: 47.0°C Absolute Pres.: 1010.0 mbar Voltage: 13.843 V 001089 - EVAP Emission Control Sys P0441 - 000 - Incorrect Flow - Intermittent Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 00100000 Fault Priority: 0 Fault Frequency: 1 Reset counter: 255 Mileage: 193864 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2012.12.03 Time: 18:19:13 Freeze Frame: RPM: 763 /min Load: 9.0 % Speed: 0.0 km/h Temperature: 96.0°C Temperature: 38.0°C Absolute Pres.: 1010.0 mbar Voltage: 13.716 V Readiness: 0000 0000 Thanks
  11. Hi, Hove is close enough. Let me check the diary and i'll suggest an evening or two that may be convenient. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks for the offer. If I end up your way I'll message you on good time.
  13. Hi all, I have a well used and abused 1.8 TSI scout and at the moment it's running ok. However I'd like to get a scan fine to check for any faults and also with a view to changing the steering wheel to a mfsw and possibly the stereo to on with dab radio. Abe nearby before a check further in Kent. Thanks
  14. For some unknown reason when you unlock the car with the remote all other doors will unlock and open as expected when you pull the door handle. However the front passenger door will only open after you pull on the handle, release it and then pull a second time. I'm wondering if this is something coded in car security features or the lock is just broken. BTW on my car its one click to unlock drivers door and second click to open the rest.
  15. Getting quite shared now about vag TSI engines and now starting to regret getting rid of my 185k mileage Honda accord estate just because I was bored of it
  16. Reading this thread is leading me to question the wisdom of getting a leggy (120k) 1.8 TSI estate. On the other hand it seems most of the affected one were 2.0 TSI at around 40k miles and 3-4 years old. Mine is nine years and I'm comforting myself with the idea that if anything was to go wrong it had already done and been fixed. Maybe wishful thinking but better than worry about any new sound or groan while driving
  17. Hi, I need a load cover for my scout but the ones i'm seeing on ebay seems to be for the normal estate. Am i correct assuming they are same dimensions so can go ahead and buy one? Thanks
