  1. Hi All, I know that the gearbox on the octy has a product code to identify the model but can anyone tell me if there is also a unique serial number please which can be traced to the original build. Having issues with a dealer after clutch / DMF replacement (which was a waste of time to correct noise) and noisy gearbox from cold which wasn't present beforehand (approx 60K miles). Also had leaky drive shaft seal on gearbox after work carried out though not beforehand or present on the service video. Concerned that either my gearbox main shaft bearing has been damaged or even that I've had the wrong gear box back.
  2. Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies. Have added my vehicle to my profile (though I do mention that it's a 2016 MK3 Octavia SE TDI 2.0 Estate (150ps) in the first line of the post ;-) ). Well went in today and with the dealer from 10.30 until after 3.00PM. Initially wanted to do a service then diagnostics but agreed to run diagnostics first - then service etc. They tested the fan and found it to be working on their diagnosis ( I forgot to try activating it in VCDS in my haste) - so no new fan required which was good news (quoted £365.00 for a genuine replacement from a local VW supplier - though to be honest would have fitted a used one if need be). The aircon needed a service and they did a vacuum check, topped up 500g and added 5ml UV die in case there's a leak as I could swear we smelt a chemical smell through the vents. Then second service which included an ECU updated (couldn't elaborate on what it was for). I did comment that I use the aircon virtually all the time to keep it lubricated and protect the seals and surprised to have it fail at 36K miles given we still have an '07 Golf TDI (PD engine) at 178K miles and the aircon's never needed a recharge. As for the clutch - they couldn't fault but suspect it may be an intermittent clutch master cylinder as they have seen before on other models. Going to leave it for now and be more careful in slow moving / stationary traffic not to keep the clutch depressed as I think I did on the occasion of the failure. Got my trusty stick with a hook in the car to pull the pedal back up in case ;-). Got a price of approx £350.00 to replace the master cylinder including fluids etc so will bare in mind for the future. Total for the 2nd service, diagnostics and aircon @ just under £350.00 - £249 of which just for the oil / filters and a sump plug which is well over the top I know given you can pick up the LL oil for £25.00 - but I'm just happy not to have had to fork out for the fan and clutch at present ! I've yet to run VCDS again as yet. Suspect some of my errors may have been down to low battery at 11.7V. Thanks for the info on the fan staying on. I thought this was just a general feature on these models and not associated with the regen. I do only do short journeys (3 - 4 miles at a time). That being said the fan definately wasn't coming on at switch off (even after a few journeys) before the service and after just pulling up it's on again (aircon off). I know the car regens quite frequently and is interupted due to the length of the journey. Keep meaning to give it a good thrash up the A1 but have done 20K miles without a problem so far and never actually seen the regen light though can smell it when it occurs. On the subject of regens - I originally noticed a slight engine noise not long after getting the car at 15K miles - bit like the pinking noise you get on petrol engines. Every time I got it to the dealer stopped. Eventually noticed it was doing a regen as the revs were always at 1K and realised it must be associated with the timing adjustment associated with the regen as there is also a very subtle reduction in power (barely noticable). Skoda put it down to the reknowned noisy vacuum / oil pump (which is horrible when cold foro the first few miles). Just lived with it and doesn't seem to have caused an issue - touch wood ! Skoda never really explained it though - or that it could be associated with the regen. Will repost if further issues arise - hopefully not !
  3. Hi - fan is actually 5Q0 121 203 CN - not as stated above
  4. Hi All, Bit of a long one this ! Seem to be having problems with my 2016 MK3 Octavia SE TDI 2.0 Estate. About 3 or 4 weeks or so ago noticed that the aircon wasn't blowing cold. Though nothing of it an assumed it needed a recharge (though surprised as my 07 Golf is strill going strong at 170K miles without a recharge !). Then about a week ago I was stuck in slow moving rush hour traffic (due to another breakdown) when suddenly noticed that the clutch pedal wasn't coming back up and couldn't get the car into gear. After getting out and letting the guy behind know I got in in managed to get into 3rd ( pretty sure i must have turned the engine off). Managed to slip the clutch to get it back home. There was an awful stench and assumed it was due to the clutch slipping . Also felt quite hot under the bonnet. Managed to manually pull up the clutch pedal and working again now though the gear changes are a bit notchy (though have always been so in 1st to second - took to dealer but couldnt fault). No obstructions such as mats in the way. I've crafted a temporary hook on the stick to pull up the pedal again if it happens but now not taking the dogs (or wife !) in the car as a precaution as it was pretty scary. Looked at the brake / clutch fluid and it was half way down but to be honest not sure what the level was at. Filled it up and it may possibly have gone down very slightly - not sure. I've seen comments on here about the master cylinder or possibly slave but at 36K miles (car just over a year old when i bought it from Motorpoint, Peterborough) ? To add more mayhem then subsequently noticed that the Rad fan isn't coming on any more with or without the air con on. Usually comes on and stays on for 5 minutes after switch off. I've limited the drive to only about 4 or miles at present. Got back the other day and left it idling to see of the fan would kick in but didn't. Temp gauge is at 90 but the engine feels hotter and even the bonnet support felt red hot. Ran a VCDS and is showing a host of issues as below including problem communicating with the rad fan. I've gone through all the fuses under the bonnet SA and SB as well as checking all the relays for the hell of it (inc main relay). Definitely 12V present on F4. Weirdy when I put the F4 fuse back in the fan blasted for about 30 seconds which now makes me dubious as to whether or not to try a new fan (looks to be SQ0 121 203 CN - 300W from what I can tell on line). I know the Air refrigerent is low from the report below but presumably this wouldn't affect the Rad operating except for air con usage would it ? I've got it going into Skoda dealer Tues for a fault check ( at £107.00 / hr) but given the new lockdown concerned over how I'll get it fixed if they shutdown from Thursday. Pretty sure I'm looking at a hefty bill given the fault codes - hoped it might be a fusing issue (havn't checked the dash fuses as yet as couldn't see any relevant. Also aftre connecting the battery hasn't cured (hoped an ECU reset might have done the trick). Any tip advise much appreciated .
