Thanks Steve, that's a very useful reply :-) Regarding the Winter Pack - does that include a heated front windscreen (very useful I've found). Also what does the Maxx Pack include? It has more goodies than the Plus Pack doesn't it and there's also an Advanced Pack. Where can you get (apart from a dealer) info on what these include? You said Edition trim. Aren't there also Loft, Lodge and Suite trims too? Rather confusing. Well, all sorted now and I was only charged £168 including battery, fitting and re-coding. Zaph

A local VW independent specialst is fitting me a new battery and re-coding the BMS tomorrow A total of £202 including battery, re-coding and VAT. Highly rated on trustpilot too I might add. Zaph

Thanks Blue for not talking what I posted the wrong way. Didn't want to come across as arsy! On reflection, yes, the additional info (message in the display) would have helped! Vehicle in queston is a 1.4 TSI Sport with an Exide EFB battery - top says "12V 59Ah 320A DIN" and "640A EN/SAE/GS" Dimensions are 278/175/190mm (L/W/H) One question, if I may. WHY does the car need to know that the battery is an EFB or AGM battery? Does the stop-start battery management system take this into account? AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries appear to be necessary for cars with an energy recuperation system (eg hybrids) whilst EFB batteries are okay for "simple" stop-start systems. AGM have better cold-weather performance and cold-temperature cranking but are more expensive. The Varta Battery Finder suggests their DYNAMIC EFB 570500076 battery. Given that the Exide EFB battery has lasted 10 years, I can't see any benefit in going AGM. One further question - after I had used the Varta site. My (current) battery says '640A' on it but the EFB battery identified by Varta says '760A' Does this matter/make any difference? Thanks in advance, Zaph

Turns out that there was a sticker (to do with kid safety) on the underside of the new battery (a Duracell 2025 dated March 2035) Incidentally, the 2025 and 2032 codes refer to the diameter (20mm) and thickness (2.5 and 3.2mm respectively). Also CR indicates a Lithium battery, SR indicates a Silver Oxide which contain heavy metals and LR indicates an Alkaline battery. so a CR2032 is a lithium battery, 20mm in diameter and 3.2mm thick. Specifically C means a primary lithium battery (i.e. a non-rechargeable battery), R means round, S means silver primary and L alkaline primary. Coding also works for Lithium Polymer batteries such as the common 18650 (means 18mm diameter and 65.0mm long) Now works fine. Feel stupid not noticing the sticker earlier. Zaph

Not meaning to be "that guy", after all, I came to the forum seeking help, but with a car that is 10 years old on its original battery and getting the message each time that I get in the car, the centre display tells me the 12V battery needs charging it seems pretty conclusive to me. So, returning to my original question now that is cleared up, is it a simple matter to swap out the 12V battery for a new one (assuming same size battery, same type, same capacity etc) or is it more involved? A cursory internet search seems to suggest (like most things VAG) that you simply can't replace a part without some reprogramming involved. Just seeking some clarification. Z

Apologies if this seems to be a really stupid question! Car is ‘66 plate Octavia Mk.3 My car’s 12V battery needs replacing. Rather than pay the dealer $$$ to do this, can I take the car to a 3rd party and do as I have done before and simply pop in a new one? In other makes of car, when it is time to replace the 12V battery it is just a simple swap. Out with the old, in with the new battery. From a brief bit of research, it seems that it isn’t that straightforward with a VAG vehicle? Something to do with the BMS?? Any advice welcome Thanks, Zaph

Hi, first of two questions. ‘66 Plate Octavia Mk.3 One remote key fob stopped working yesterday. I unlocked the car normally, drove to my daughter’s house, went to lock the car - no joy. Had to take off the exterior cover and lock manually with the blade. Ordered replacement 2025 battery - no joy. Is it a matter of re-syncing the key to the car or do I need a replacement key fob and re-coding of the new fob? If so, what do I need to search for locally as I suspect the dealer will charge north of £150-200? I see you can buy uncoded fobs for £15-20 Cheers Zaph

Hi folks, '67-plate Octavia. OEM dealer-serviced from new. No service book so I guess a digital service record. How can I view the vehicle's service record? On another topic ... The engine 1.4 petrol, has, I believe, an external cam belt. At what age / mileage should this be changed? Final question. Is the olil pump belt, chain or gear driven? Cheers Zaph

Thanks for the reply, but I'm still puzzled. On page 15 of the brochure you linked to in your post, it says "Standard Equipment" and under "Entertainment & Communication" it says "AMUNDSEN NAVIGATION SYSTEM WITH 9.2" COLOUR DISPLAY" (see below) yet on page 28 under "Optional Equipment" there are TWO lines with two different prices (£891.67 and £91.67) for the Amundsen Sat Nav and the clear circles indicate they are both options (see below). The on-line car configurator also seems to imply that the 9.2" Amundsen Sat Nav is part of the Standard Equipment: So, is the Options List on page 28 incorrect? They can't both be true. Zaph

Looking at the 'New' Fabia (Mk 4?) I'd like Sat Nav, Apple Car Play/Android Auto, Heated Front Windscreen, Front & Rear Parking Sensors (with rear camera ideally), Heated Washer Jets, Heated & Electric-folding Door Mirrors, Auto (or Manual) A/con or Climate Control. Heated seats and/or steering wheel would be nice. I've read the online Fabia brochure TWICE now and (brochure helpfull says that "Models shown are not UK specification" and that "Some of the equipment shown is optional") The SE-Comfort lists a total of 23 items of "Standard Equipment" including such things as 'Black Painted Air Vents', 'Grey Fabric Seats' and 'Parking Sensors' (rear only or front & rear - it doesn't say). The SE-L lists Sat Nav, dual-zone Climate Control in the "Standard Equipment". The Colour Edition & Monte Carlo - no idea as to what the "Standard Equipment" list is. Do they both include the 'Glass Cockpit' as standard *shrugs* (it seems like they do). However does the 'Glass Cockpit include Sat Nav? There is a whole list of Optional Equipment and it helpfully tells you which car these can be ordered for (and for some items, which are standard) but I can't figure out whether the Amundsen Sat Nav is available for the SE-L or whether it is only a cut-down version. The only way there seems to be to find out the standard specification for each model is to use the 'Build Your Own' configurator? Any help gratefully received Zaph
