  1. Hi all . I have posted a query on the Roomster mk1 forum but no replies, so hoping it may get a bit more attention and help here. I have a 2007 Roomster 1.4pd 3 pot diesel with intermittent starting issues. It cranks for a long time before starting, then sometimes won't start at all then straight away it will start , turn it off and re try and won't start and so on !! I have replaced the glow plugs, The cam sensor, checked the feed to the cam sensor plug and all fine , i.e ground , 12 volt and 5 volt all ok . Could it be a fuel shut off selenoid sticking ? Or coolant temp sensor problem ? The battery is good showing 13.8 volts and I have taken the in tank fuel pump out and cleaned the strainer and blown all the pipes out in case of blockages and chescked the motor, all fine . Any ideas as going nuts trying to find the issue , btw my mate came here and it showed up on his diagnostics reader as cam sensor, fitted a new one and it wouldn't start at all, so re fitted the old one and at least it starts eventually , why would a new one not start at all ? Delphi make btw . Thanks in advance Jon
  2. Well . Jeff . As your the only one listening or interested , I'll address you personally as no one else seems to give two craps . I have took the in tank fuel pump out and thoroughly cleaned it as it was covered in a black gunk, cleaned the strainer and checked the pump and re installed and the problem is still there , I may have to change the glow plug relay next as I am not sure the new plugs are getting any juice , Case of elimination by the looks of it till it's sorted , got a mate coming up soon with VagCom reader so hopefully that will shine a new light
  3. Hi Jeff . It used to play up, but I cured that at the re mappers and they deleted the offending items and been fine ever since until now, I have today noticed there is no more squishing noises from the in tank fuel pump like it used to , so have pulled it out tonight to take a look , It does look old and the original so may well be the problem. I'll bench test it and see what I've got , but at another £40/50 I might as well fit a new one while out. I do suspect this is the issue bit then again I thought that when changing the glow plugsthis week and the fuel filter , I expected a better faster response on here tbh . Everythings Brisk execept the replies lol .
  4. Hi all . My 2007 plate 1.4 tdi Roomster with the 3 pot diesel hasstarted giving me some issues . It is very slow to start lately and requires a lot of winding over . I have replaced the fuel filter, Just fitted new glow plugs and still no better . I have checked the fuel lines are tight so not drawing air also . When cold it really is a long wind to get it started and the starter sounds sluggish, once warm it starts better , but doing several start attempts once warm results in one not starting followed by starting better . I am not hearing the squish sound from the tank pump when the ignition is turned on like I used to but can here it is working . Having spent a few pounds lately to cure the problem does anyone have any other ideas please . btw !! The cam sensor was replaced two years ago . The car has 102k miles and has been re mapped and once going pulls like the proverbial train. Thanks Jon
  5. This is the 1.4 PD lump 3 pot tdi . Lovely engine and sings away great and pulls really well
  6. The more I'm reading up on this issue the more it points to a faulty CTS more than anything else or low battery voltage when hot thus resulting in too low a revs to start and inject fuel when hot !
  7. Thanks for the quick reply . But surely if the timing was out the engine wouldn't be pulling so well and firing on half a turn of the key from cold or warm ? It's only when hot the issue is a problem !!
  8. Hi all from Cornwall. My wife runs her Skoda Roomster daily for work etc but we have a problem with it hot starting, oe lack of it !!! I have done a full service inc all filters etc. Car pulls really well , it is the 3 cylinder tdi model 1.4 I think. From cold it starts really well and easily but after a run to the shops etc it is a sod to re start. The mot station plugged in their obd reader and they came back with three faults. Those being 19463- Cam sensor no signal 16485- Mass air flow sensor implausible signal. 19587- EGR system regulatory range . I have cleaned the MAF sensor as per the usual methods. Cleaned the EGR as it was chucked with soot and carbon and fitted EGR blanking plate while in there. And the last two nights fitted a cam sensor twice and thats where the problems really start. Both new cam sensors when fitted means the car will not start at all but as soon as I plug the old (Faulty) one back in it starts easily even when warm, but hot starting is the problem. Can anyone please advise what the hell is going on here as we are off on holiday soon and the Engine management light is on and I want the hot start issue fixed as we are going a pretty long way from home . I don't have an obd reader so need sound advice on what a home mechanic can do. Thanks in advance all Jon
