Rattle in driver's A-pillar
bernieeccles replied to johh's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Remind me of a story told to me by a bloke who ran an engineering workshop that reground crankshafts, reconditioned engines, that sort of thing. Previous to that he was a quality inspector at a Ford factory. Somebody had a car (don't know which model) that had a rattle in the bodywork that seemed to be coming from somewhere near the B pillar. Dealers searched for this rattle for quite a time but could not find out what it was. Eventually, in desperation they cut a hole in the pillar to investigate. Inside, they found that someone had welded a nut to a length of springy welding wire and tacked the other end of the wire to the wall of the B pillar which meant that at random times the nut would sway on the end of the wire, tapping against the metal. This was in the days before robots did all the body assembly and maybe a worker had a bit of a grievance. True story. -
The very best combination of body colour and wheel colour in my opinion. I'd better not comment about that "other" combination .

Guess what colour I had the wheels on my VFR 800 FIX powder coated ?, yes silver. Oh , and my 2008 Fazer 1000 is actually Granite Grey with gold wheels ! -

Absolutely, my views about black wheels are well known by my motorcycling friends, they all know that I hate blacks wheels on anything with a passion, except maybe a wheelbarrow. -

"your entitled to your opinion like everyone else." Exactly ! I think your just upset because you have one on order and someone has dared to question your choice. No need, you like it and that is all that matters. Personally, I think the Race Blue is common because it is the best looking, I also like the metallic green but any car is spoiled by black wheels. In my opinion ! -

Colour should be called " Shiny Primer". Together with wheels that look like cheapo black steel with the plastic trim missing from 30 yards or above 15mph, makes for a horrible combination. -

I just don't understand this seeming addiction to black everything. Black wheels look just ****e, you might as well have black steel wheels as from a distance they look the same. I asked the sales guy what this black pack was. Apparently you pay to have black wing mirrors and black front grill surround. To my mind, colour co -ordinated mirrors look far better and you don't pay, black grill surround maybe. I actually have a black VW Bora at the moment with black leather seats but the headlining is a nice light grey colour which makes the interior less oppressive. Still, this is my opinion only, but you would have to pay me to have black wheels and even then I wouldn't. White car with black wheels, absolute ****e, cannot think of a worse standard colour option. Sorry if your offended. -
Went to look at a VRS yesterday and noticed how dark the interior was with the black headlining. Sales guy says that,s all you can have on a VRS. Is this the case, because it could be a l deal breaker.

Buyer's Remorse?! Other Viable Options?
bernieeccles replied to fiisch's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Quote from Auto Express on this very car . "Refinement is an issue, though, with a fair bit of clatter from the engine under heavy throttle loads. It’s a similar story at high speeds, where road and wind noise is acceptable for a car of this size, but no match for the new crop of VW Group products, like the SEAT Leon and VW Golf. Actually,I did a DVD of a recent bike trip with lots of video, stills and music tracks and found MovieMaker really easy. You can easily expand the lenghth of time for showing stills to match music just by dragging the clip on the timeline. Should have said, use the timeline, its much better.you can also drop in effects if you want. Try it,it is quite good. The only thing is you will need something else to actually burn the DVD. -

If you use windows XP then you could do this very easily with Movie Maker which as you may know comes free and should be sitting on your hard disk right now . You can import digital stills besides video and esily put a music track over the top. easy peasy ! -
