  1. Hi, I too am considering a new Skoda and have three kids (almost 2, 4 & 6). It seems to be a real problem getting all the seats & boosters in most cars. Asked about the Roomster, if a booster would fit between two Isofix chairs (assuming we paid a fortune for all three from the dealers!), they weren't sure and didn't have any boosters to check. So e-mailed Skoda UK. Apparently their official line is don't put any child seat in the middle in the back of any of their cars!!! Certainly the belt would appear to end up around the child's neck in the Roomster! Think if you have three kids you have to be rich and buy a bus! The first thing we do when we look at any car now is try all the seats, and when you buy seats go for narrow ones! It also doesn't follow with the size of car, we currently have a Mondeo (wouldn't recommend) but tried a 5 door 05 Civic at the weekend & they fit in that fine despite the size!
  2. A postnote to anyone who is suffering non-warranty covered DMF problems like me, (there are several threads about this, so apologies to anyone who read this elsewhere!), found out Valeo make "4 piece clutch kits" to replace clutch & DMF, they reckon it is both cheaper & more durable. No idea if this is true though & not sure of model availability! Will let you know as my Mondeo DMF is up to 8k miles now and therefore must be knackered by now!!
  3. Hi, sorry I'm not a techy so not sure if this is any help, but just found out Valeo do a 4 piece clutch kit to replace DMFs. They reckon the new kit is cheaper and more durable than the DMF. Not sure of details but here's where I found it... York Motor Factors - Supplying all Parts Automotive throughout York, Scarborough and Malton Let me know if anyone has experience of them, I'll probably need one in my Mondeo soon!
  4. According to the mechanic at my local independent garage, the third generation DMF being developed by some companies is.... a kit to convert back to an SMF! Now that's what I call progress. He also said all of the manufacturers were having a nightmare with DMFs, so I'm hoping it's an evolutionary stub that will be dropped soon! As I said on another thread, at least VAG have the decency to recall them, mine's cost me
  5. An interesting reply from Skoda UK about a booster seat in the middle rear seat in the Roomster! They say you shouldn't put any form of child/booster seat in the middle rear seat of any Skoda car, however we could put one in the front. As any adult who has tried to sit in the back between two child seats in any car will tell you, this basically means Skoda do not make a car suitable for a family with three kids! I imagine you get the same from many manufacturers though. On another point, had a curve ball thrown in to the works if we decide on a brand new car, anyone seen a Mitsubishi Lancer? 1.6 estate, everything the Octavia 1.4 has plus metallic paint, alloys and an unlimited mileage warranty for
  6. Hi, can I say thanks to you all, it's nice to get a useful and friendly forum!!!! Thanks for the Zafira suggestion above, but as I've already owned a Rover, a Renault (awful Scenic!!) and a Ford I am a bit wary of completing the evil quartet of supposed bad reliability! Nevertheless I shall have a look at one as I have heard they are by far Vauxhall's best car, whether that counts for anything....
  7. Budget will be determined by visit to dealers and value of the Mondeo (so probably about 50p:eek: ). Realistically about
  8. Hi, Sorry thought you'd get Roomster from 'Ugly'!! Or to quote Whatcar "cult". Although I have to admit it is a nice car apart from the B pillar region. I also thought the view out the front was a bit limited by the roof lip (I'm 6ft 2, maybe that's why?), anyone else agree or did I just have the seat wrong?
  9. Hi, I just joined cos I'm hoping to replace my 52 Mondeo (see my post here for one reason http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/octy-2-0tdi-recall-flywheel/52288/4/) with a Skoda. The problem is which one:confused:. We have three kids, the eldest being 6, so we need two carseats and a booster seat to fit. Looked at all of them at the weekend (except for the pricey Superb!), the Ugly looks impressive (daughters loved it!) but don't think a booster seat will fit in the little middle seat, and also the lack of a shoulder loop for the belt makes it look like it would take my daughter's head off! Think it's really designed for old people, otherwise why not put built in booster seats like Volvo have on their new one... although they are
  10. These LUK DMFs are a nightmare! Had to get a new one with my clutch on my Mondeo, cost £600 (for both) from an independent garage, aparently the flywheel itself is almost £300!!! The mechanic reckoned, at 60k, mine was the highest mileage Ford clutch of that type he's seen! They've been having trouble getting the parts as there is so much demand. Called in for a new exhaust the other day and got told some companies are introducing a kit to convert back to a single mass. Asked them to check mine again as I'm still worried by it, it's only done 8k since! Thinking of replacing the Mondeo with a Skoda (which is why I'm here), my dad's had two Octavia's over the space of 6 yrs & no problems. So it's quite worrying to find this DMF problem here but at least Skoda recalled, Ford have only recalled a few Galaxy's.... (PS. I'm trying to set a new record for exclaimations in my first post!!!)
