  1. Engine warning light now gone! Thanks again for the replies, much appreciated 馃檪
  2. Thanks very much for the replies! Ok I am more relaxed about it now. I鈥檝e just driven it again, still warning light on but judder seems to be going away. Have booked it into garage on Monday but I鈥檓 less worried that I鈥檝e wrecked my engine 馃槀 cheers!
  3. Hello, I got a Check Oil Level warning the other day so I drove to the nearest petrol station, bought some oil and topped it up. Check Oil Level warning disappeared straight away so I thought everything was fine but when I got home I noticed an engine judder when I turned the car off. Next day I drove maybe 10 miles to supermarket and other nearby places and every time I turned the car off I noticed the same judder, and also noticed the engine warning light had come on (may have been on since Check Oil Level warning, I am not sure). So at the end of the day I open the bonnet and discover to my horror that I had left the oil cap off after I had topped it up! Some oil had spewed out over nearby engine parts but nothing seems to have been damaged due to that. However I am really worried by the engine warning light being constantly on now! Does anyone have any idea what might be happening? Have I ruined the engine by leaving the cap off? It might help to know that the judder doesn鈥檛 happen when I turn off engine with clutch engaged. It could be that the judder was always there, and I only noticed now because I was more attentive due to Check Oil Level warning. At no point has the Oil Pressure warning appeared. I have put the cap back on and run it more a couple miles but engine warning light is still on. It鈥檚 a F谩bia Mk III if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for any help!
  4. Well i took it to the dealer, the mechanic had a bit of a drive around in it and did hear the noise. It was maybe not as loud as i normally get it, maybe he had a slower foot action than me. Anyway he said it is quite common on small Skoda and vw and nothing to worry about. To be fair the gear change is still smooth, its really just a noise thats got me worried. I think I'll just keep and eye on it and make a point of mentioning it when it gets to its next service. Not 100 per cent satisfied but the rest of the car is great s贸 I'll live with it and hope for the best!
  5. 6 cars now! I started a new thread on this the other day because I missed this one. I'll keep all my posts in this thread from now on. I've booked my 2016 1.0 mpi in with the after sales people at the dealer for next tuesday, will report back what they say. I hope i won't have to replace the clutch. I feel stupid cos i've only had the car a few weeks but just didn't notice it on the test drive.
  6. Estateman and humphret, thanks a lot for the input. Humphret i'd be interested to hear what you find. Looks like i won't have time to take it to the dealer before wednesday but i'll report back what they say when i finally get there!
  7. Thanks Davy, i'd appreciate any feedback from your mpi. Cheers
  8. Hello all, after searching the f贸rum based on offski's recommendation i havent found anything that sounds like my problem in other threads, so i'd be very grateful for any advice here if anyone has come across this problem. Basically i picked up a 2016 1.0 mpi 5 speed manual estate two weeks ago and just in the last few days noticed that the gear change from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd can be extremely noisy. After initially describing it as a clunk, i would say the best way i can think of to describe it is like the sound a typewriter key makes when it hits the page, except much louder obviously. It is a very metallic "slap" rather than a clunk. It happens when the clutch pedal is about halfway up, on the release. The gear change itself feels very smooth but its just that the noise is quite worrying. If i release the clutch extremely slowly i dont hear the noise, but when i say extremely slowly i mean ridiculously slowly, in a way that isnt really practical in many situations. Does anyone have any idea what this mighy be please? Is this normal on these models? Ive never experienced anything like this on any other cars ive driven, and just based on the volume and harshness of the noise i am worried that something might be getting damaged every time i shift. I am going to take it back to the dealer tomorrow to see what they say, but because you can show that the noise doesnt occur when you release the clutch very slowly i am expecting them to say i am just releasing it too quickly. Next step would be to take it to the official Skoda dealer, but i'd appreciate any info or advice anyone can offer me on here s贸 i go as prepared as possible! Edit: might be worth mentioning that there is no grinding, its easy to get the gears in and it doesnt seem to matter whether the engine is hot or cold. I only started noticing the noise when i started driving with the windows open. Should have tried that on test drove!
  9. Ah sorry i didnt realise. I have to admit, im still not sure what a DSG is haha. Thanks Offski!
  10. Two weeks ago i picked up a 2016 mkIII estate, 1.0 mpi (74ps) with SE spec (called Ambition here in Portugal) and about 20k miles on the clock. Already done about 300 miles in it, very happy with the space, practicality, equipment, looks and handling. The build quality seems great but the plastic in the cabin is really noisy - quite a few creaks and rattles but you cant really hear them when the r谩dio is on. I'm slightly worried by a noisy gear change (see sfnj3's thread) but hopefully that turns out to be nothing!
  11. Hello i think i am hearing a similar noise on my 2016 mkIII estate. I bought it 2 weeks ago with 33k km, but ive only started to hear the noise the last couple of days when ive been driving with the windows down. The gear change itself seems very smooth to me, no juddering or jumping, its purely the noise that has got me worried. I only notice it when changing from 1st to 2nd, and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd. Mine is a 5 speed manual and i am the first to admit that i'm not the best driver in the world, so my first thought was that maybe it was down to my shifting technique. However i never noticed anything remotely similar with my Hyundai i20, and hearing your recording in the original post has got me a bit worried! Estate Man if you're right and its nothing to worry about i'll be happy enough - the noise itself doesnt bother me, just as long as its not a sign that something is not as it should be and i get problems further down the line as a result! sfnj3 i would be very interested to hear how it turns out for you - good luck and please keep us updated!
  12. Hi, Ive just bought a Mark III estate, 2016 with 33000 km (i think about 20000 miles) and so far i absolutely love it! I just got the 1 litre 75 HP version, would have liked the turbo but there are none available second hand where i live (northern Portugal). My wife is 7 months pregnant with twins s贸 we needed something with enough boot space to hold a twin buggy and within our price range it basically came down to a choice between a Dacia Logan estate or a nearly new Fabia estate. Theres also the Renault Clio estate here, which i dont think is available in UK, but that h谩s a smaller boot and is more expensive, but also looks nicer and has a 90 turbo engine which h谩s a good reputation here. Anyway after 2 drives i'm really impressed with the Fabia estate. I got the Ambition version (i think that might be SE in UK) and it has everything i need - electric everything, bluetooth, nice multimedia system, and the manual air con seems to work great. But the best thing, apart from the amazing boot space, is the handling! Even with just 75 HP it is great to drive, much better than the 2011 Hyundai i20 i used to have. The Hyundai was 1.2 and i think had a bit more power, and the Fabia is admittedly very sluggish from standing start, but once you have it up between 20 and 60 mph, on local roads it is great! Doing 60-70 mph is very comfortable, although it did start to lose speed on a long incline i did the other day. However for my needs it seems perfect! I think i might be a Skoda convert - wouldnt mind trying one of the more powerful versions for my Next car. On the mean time Im looking forward t么 learning about these great Cars on this f贸rum! Cheers!
