  1. Simply parked it on the drive facing the wall, fired up and switched the lights on, popped the bonnet and used a screwdriver to bring the driver's side up slightly (actually matched the pattern of the passenger side where my view was more like 3 car lengths). No learning or error messages as I'd been led to believe, glad that good old mechanical adjustment is still available. Thanks all!
  2. Knob, you missed the point, not a trust issue with the dealer doing the job just don't trust some 18 year old **** doing handbrake turns or parking my car in the customer carpark for Mr 'I can't see cause my cateracts get in the way' to pull up beside and put a first door dent in the side of my pride and joy! As it is, the BS I was given about needing calibration was BS...... the handy image was perfect for me to have a go at tweeking the height of the offside lamp and now I can see perfectly in the dark.
  3. It's the 'learn' part I need to get into. Tried an Alan key on the white points but feel like they 'free-spin' without making any difference to the beam.
  4. Yep, you are right, they do self adjust. Just went out, switched to full on then started the car to see the beam raise up then settle to 'too low' again....
  5. Auto or choose headlight? I've always used auto (still new) so maybe there is a difference?
  6. On top of that, nowadays it's less 'mechanic' more 'technician' just to justify extortionate rates to do things like change a light bulb out of warranty...... Citygate Skoda just got back to me after I questioned why it'd take a few hours to check and adjust (or as they said, diagnose and calibrate.......'technician' remember!). I said I'd wait with the car if they book it in asap, they said: "I will advise you that if you choose to wait, you may find yourself waiting for the rest of the day. The reason being as because we will need to apply to Skoda UK as this is a possible warranty job, and authorisation may take some time before we can carry out the work" WTF! Please someone, confirm the OBDEleven will allow LED adjustment so I can do it myself.....
  7. They are static, no movement on start up. Looked at that thread last week hence mentioning that VW confirmed there is no manual adjustment for the LED headlamps. They are only adjustable via computer calibration/interface.... Bloody 'advancements in technology'.... In fairness they are great lights, just need to point at the right angle to work properly! A mechanic friend suggested if the beamsetter is too close to the headlamp when calibrated, it'll mess the angle up and be too low. He said make sure there is a decent distance between headlamp and unit to ensure the angle is right when they reset....
  8. It's quite possible the LED lamp has a form of self levelling hence the lack of difference trying to force a bit more upward angle...... You are correct in the Bi-Xenon and LED units being different, know the OBD will resolve the Xenon level, hoping one of the Facelift LED/245 owners have been p*seed off enough to try the OBD with success... Thanks, Darren.
  9. As titled, everytime I take my 245 out in the dark, I find myself shouting at the headlights as they only give about 2 car lengths of cats eyes before complete darkness and it ain't fun on unlit roads. Found it especially frustrating at the national speed limit belting up and down the A3 south of Guildford to Portsmouth like I did on Saturday night! A semi local dealership says they'll diagnose and adjust if required under warranty (only 8 months old) but it'll take a few hours...!?! I don't trust anyone with my car so would rather invest in an OBDeleven and do it myself if the unit can adjust the beam. Local VW dealer confirmed it's a software adjustment, no physical adjustment of the LED lights is possible. I'd previously tried loosening the headlamp mounts and clamping up with a bit more angle but it's exactly the same.....
  10. Agreed but at 42 with a long list of decent manual cars decided to take the plunge with a new DSG for a less stressful drive. Thought I'd mellow as I aged but I find an increasing intolerance to morons whether it be a lack of lane discipline, not indicating before getting to a roundabout or too busy dicking around on there phone to be even 1/4 aware of anyone else around them! Im actually surprised to find driving the 245 relaxing and enjoyable. I almost look forward to going out again instead of frowning and muttering how long it'll be before I nail someone coming up the middle of the road as they don't know a sinlge parked car on their side means they should wait until my side is clear before just pulling out and expecting me to avoid them......
  11. I'll also see how it is on the blind roundabouts, you know the ones where you have to come to a complete stop (defeating the purpose of it being a roundabout) cos no one cuts the hedges back. Whilst it's clear, you go for the accelerator but then someone appears as you wait for the DSG to make absolutely sure you are ready to pull away (feels like 3 to 5 seconds) before it actually decides to start moving It's only made slightly worse still if you forgot to switch the autostop off
  12. Sorry for the delay, finally got around to installing this morning as the DSG throttle lag has been getting on my nerves more and more.... Anyhow, KESSY unlock as above is right, just unlock, open the door and after a very short time without getting into the car, the dash switches off. Get on your knees, reach up the right side of the accelerator pedal, push the red clip upwards then use that exposed clip to squeeze and pull up the whole plug. Open the right knee compartment, force the two connectors of the pedal box passed the right inner side of the compartment, reach in from behind and pull some slack to connect up. After fitting I locked the car, unlocked it and found the 'box would only stay lit for a few seconds before shutting off so I started the car, let it run for a few seconds the switched it off. This leaves the ignition on as you are still inside and then you hold the + and - buttons for the pedal set up. After it learnt the pedal travel I got out, locked and unlocked (just for my own peace of mind), got in, started up, set to 'Sport' and +1 then went for a run around the block. Yes, throttle response is many times better but found this setting a little too tight/quick/short for local 20/30mph with humps so set it to 'Sport' -1 when I got back home and will see how that is when I go out to work later.
  13. Ok, no takers....... DTUK have recommend unlocking the car and letting it sit for a few minutes for everything to shut off then installing the pedal box, incase anyone needs to know in the future......
  14. Received the pedal box yesterday, started reading the installation and grew slightly concerned..... Firstly, to fit the box I need the ignition off but when I unlock the car, everything is lit and ready to fire up.....Is this a safe 'off'? Secondly, in order for the box to set it's values I need to press the pedal several times while ignition is on but car not running......I'm guessing that is the 'unlocked' stage above or do I fire up, stop the engine then pump the pedal a few times whilst the car is still active but the engine is no longer running? I'm tempted to just unlock, pull the plugs, connect the box, push the pedal to synchronise then start the car up..... Doing that though, I'll probably hear a loud electrical crack and have no dashboard or something stupid given how over computerized these modern cars are! Anyone installed on a DSG with KESSY?
  15. Thanks. It's definitely more noticeable. I didn't have much problem belting up the A3 as everyone was moving out of my way. Time will tell if that means plod will spot it more though.....
