  1. Traded this morning. Now we temporarily have two Superbs. Just collected a 2012 Combi Elegance DSG petrol in petrol blue metallic with Ivory leather interior from Hughes at Farnham Common. Nice salesman and superb service. Next is to replace the '03 Superb comfort.
  2. It's manual. I can't believe I missed that in the description!
  3. I am trading my wife's Octavia for a Superb Estate on Friday. As we've been offered not much for trade in, and I think it would be a bargain for someone at £600, I am offering it but a decision must be made by Thursday evening 5th Nov. or it's traded. I have owned the car from new. Octavia Combi L&K 1.8 petrol turbo Stone colour (light blue/silver metallic) Beige leather interior Rear parking sensors 107,000 miles and change Serviced annually by same Independant dealer but needs one now MoT until 6th April 2016 Now the critical bits I can think of: Wheels are a bit crusty with a bit of kerbing Drivers seat has a small split in it There are about 6 stone chips in the bonnet which have rusted, biggest is the size of a pea Front suspension is squeaky I'll add some photos when it's light tomorrow and had a wash.
  4. My old Mini wouldn't go above 80 when I was a lad, but it didn't stop me from over committing!
  5. Genius idea. But wait - do you think that insurance companies will offer cheaper rates for teens that only use the MyKey? If so that means that I will have no excuse for him to borrow one of the cars. I'll just have to say no!
  6. My Sky plus box developed terminally fat capacitors in the power supply last month. It was an Amstrad which used to freeze up and forget to record stuff which apparently is normal behaviour for these. I bought a Pace box for £50 on ebay and it works great. My old Sky (not plus) box died a few years ago and I phoned Sky. They charged £65 to come out for which they replaced and would repair anything that was broken and everything would remain covered for a year. The Pace boxes apparently are much more reliable.
  7. I have reset the service indicator and made a mental note to get the car serviced in the new year (when it reaches 10,000 miles). I had the first two services on the Octy done on variable, each after 18,000 miles. Then my bottle went - this seemed far too long between services and have serviced it every 10,000 miles since. I will have to shorten this as it's only covering 2,500 miles a year now. What service interval do you all think would be suitable for the Octy?
  8. Yeah - thanks for that! Think I'm becoming PHB!
  9. OK - I feel I am the victim of a dealer scam. According to a dealer I phoned, there are three ways to set the service intervals, Variable, 10,000 miles and 1 year. Yearly servicing gives no warning. When I bought the car, the dealer used long life oil, silly me assumed that this meant that it would be set to variable servicing, but no, it was set to 1 year. So I have long life oil and have covered 7,200 miles on it. I don't suppose there is anyway to get the service indicator reset retrospectively to variable?
  10. So if it should have been counting down, why did it not? If there is a problem, I should get it into a dealer PDQ as the warranty runs out on Wednesday!
  11. Probaly not. Vista wasn't why we took this decision not to upgrade, we run over 1000 applications and a lot are badly written with the vendors not intending to develop their product for Vista for some time. This is probably because Vista insists that they don't take liberties with their programming. Most issues with Windows are caused by third party applications not being written correctly. We run a Novell directory and they have not yet produced a working client for Vista. This was our killer for the project. Meanwhile, back on topic, I'm about to restore the laptop having watched qualifying. The mighty North End are now losing to our rival neighbours so I'll open a beer.
  12. My Superb has just announced that a service is due with a "Service Now" alert when I start the car. I have had the car nearly a year, with the car being serviced by the dealer exactly a year ago. I have covered 8000 miles, mostly town driving. I don't know if it was set to fixed service or variable - in fact I don't know if variable is an option on the Superb My Octy always warns me that service is due in xx miles starting at 900 miles, but the Superb gave no such warning - is this normal?
  13. I picked up the laptop in the pub last night. When it boots, the Zylon strobe starts and the word Windows appears, but no logo and it is monotone. The whole story of the "error message" is that it was shut down by his partner who "didn't do anything" with it. On reboot it asked for the keyboard language then said drivers missing, choose from the list. The list was blank, but he chose continue anyway. Next it said Windows was corrupt and would he like to repair it? He chose yes. Laptop now nadgered. I reckon I've just got to use the restore disk and put it back to how it was. I won't bother taking out the disk and rescuing the data - not a lot has changed. He has a caddy I bought him that still has the disk from the last laptop that wasn't caught by his partner in a particularly heated domestic discussion. This hasn't left the box so still has all his data on. I will restore from this and remove Norton again (see another thread) and replace the AV software. As for updating to XP - I agree, I would always recommend this - we have taken a decision at work to skip Vista and stay on XP.
  14. Just rolled SP3 to a few thousand PCs aged new to 4 years old as a fresh image. All our testing of over a thousand apps showed no issues. Haven't tried updating currently installed SP2s yet as a forced install, but many of my userbase have updated their own with no issues reported. AFAIK SP3 is basically a roll up of SP2 plus all the subsequent patches. I have heard a few cases where people have had problems when they downloaded SP3 and patched their PCs. It then would not accept any more patches. Uninstalling this then getting the SP3 patch via Windows Update works fine.
