  1. Same problem as mine. However, the good news is that Murray Skoda have now agreed to replace the gearbox free of charge. This is only because i have a full Skoda Used Car Warranty. Result, at last.
  2. Ignoring the semantics, the functionality to lock the transmission does exist. Also, in reply to one question above, I ALWAYS use the handbrake and the lock was working when I bought the car. However, Skoda's refusal to accept it is a warranty repair plus their claim that parts do not exist to repair the gearbox, which must be replaced in toto, are the real issues here. Plus, if the part (pawl?) that failed cannot be replaced, why is it not a much more robust piece of kit. Retail price of this box is in excess of £4500 plus labour which is a hellova lot for anyone to needing to get the work done out of warranty.
  3. Update on Progress with Skoda I have been in contact with Skoda UK Chief Executives office. They tell me that the parking lock, which Murray Skoda insisted did not exist, can actually be fixed, but only by replacing the whole gearbox. Murray Skoda are offering to contribute 60% of the parts cost plus free labour. A "goodwill gesture" as they say it is down to wear and tear and is not covered by warranty. However as this still leaves me with a £1200 bill and my full Skoda Warranty does not expire until 3rd September, I am not inclined to accept. Any views as to how I stand legally? I cannot agree that a gearbox is only good for 65K miles, especially when I have a full Skoda service history.
  4. Thank you maffyou and also for putting your point without rancour. However, I did say I now take the precaution of keeping the wheels turned to the curve or putting a chock under one of the wheels and my concerns have been put in writing.
  5. I suggest you check the facts before you post such your viewpoints in such an offensive manner and in any case, even if you were correct, there is no need to be quite so rude. My Skoda dealer (AKA the so called experts) checked the handbrake twice and assured me it was functioning properly. They also tell me the transmission does not mechanically lock when in park, a perspective which is disputed by Skoda technical UK. So when I set the handbrake properly and the car can still move, I cannot reasonably be held to blame. However I do now take the precaution of keeping the wheels turned to the curve or putting a check under one of the wheels. Note that in 40 years of motoring driving more cars than I care to remember I have never experienced an MOT pass level handbrake failing in this manner and reading some of the other posts, I am not alone.
  6. Never been to San Fransisco, but they do use Park only in Maryland and Virginia. The handbrake was on when I parked the car and I have since tried it on a slight slope and in Park with the handbrake off, the car rolls downhill. As my local dealer has checked the handbrake, pronounced it fit for purpose and stated the gearbox Park function does not lock the wheels, I reckon they would be in the dock, not me. HOWEVER, I talked to Skoda UK today and they told me that Park does lock the transmission and they are talking to my local dealer to find out why they have a different viewpoint.
  7. Thank you all. Have found the right words in the manual and will have words with my local garage (Murray Skoda Plymouth) tomorrow.
  8. Parked my 2014 Octavia Mk III 2.0 TDI Auto Elegance Estate on a hill the other day and 10 mins later noticed the car rolling backwards down the hill towards me. Luckily I managed to unlock it and stop it before it hit some rather expensive boats nearby and then I took it to my local garage who tell me that the DSG gearbox does NOT lock the wheels when in park. This is something of a revelation for me as I am used to driving automatics all over the world that all lock the wheels in park. If fact in the USA, many cars do not have a working handbrake as the owners just put the car in park and walk away without bothering with the handbrake. Am I the only one surprised by this lack of functionality?
  9. After numerous visits to my local Murray Skoda dealer, all of my electrical faults but one have been fixed. It took them 4 visits to determine that: a) The faults actually existed and b) They could be fixed by a re-installation of software. However on the 5th visit they tell me that my headlight assist problem cannot be fixed as it does not show up on any diagnostics. The headlights turn on, dip and full beam as they should, then without warning or any change to settings just fail to auto respond, dipping or full beam, to external light conditions and we are talking here about Cornwall roads, black as sin, so no ambient light sources to confuse the sensors. Anybody here have any ideas to contribute. My 2014 Octavia Mk III 2.0 TDI Elegance Estate goes in tomorrow for visit number 6 and I really want them to stop the GBA and get it sorted.
  10. The radio in my 2014 Octavia Mk III 2.0 TDI Elegance Estate loses it's signal in certain areas, but unlike my previous cars, does not search for an alternative frequency for the same station, but jumps to a different station altogether. I have tried a number of different settings, but without success. Any thoughts on this?
  11. No lights of any kind in my garage. As to starting, holding the key in the start position still results in a delay. Sometimes s to 4 seconds.
  12. Thanks for your input, however. Key fob - Did all of that. Gearbox - I knew about auto change down, but to 3rd gear at 48 mph? Headlights - On the late setting they came on much earlier than I would have manually turned them on. But on the same setting when entering my dark garage, they often do not come on. Will see how I get on with starting. But the occasion when it would not start at all cannot be explained by waiting for glow plugs. Error message - Don't think this is the cause as it occurs when well into a journey.
  13. A little while ago I posted about my electrical gremlins on 2014 Octavia 2.0 diesel elegance with DSG box. Just to recap, with some more additions: Low key battery message still showing despite changing batteries in both keys and the old batteries showing 3.2v each. Boot lid frequently not opening with key - Intermittent. Key memories often fail to adjust seats- Intermittent. Gearbox occasionally changes down to 3rd gear at 48mph when coasting downhill- Intermittent. Radio changes FM channel on its own in poor signal areas - does not hunt for same channel on another frequency. Satnav zooms in and out, despite the auto zoom box being unticked. Headlights refuse to dip auto, then start to dip auto, then fails to turn on full beam- Intermittent. Headlights do not auto turn on in bad light (i.e. garage) - Intermittent. Car would not start on just one occasion, no response at all. At other times when cold, takes a long time to engage starter. Error message flashes up something about leaving workshop when in park, but disappears before message can be read - Intermittent. So, I took it in to Murrays Skoda in Plymouth under warranty and they said they cannot find any faults and if I could catch the problems on camera, that could be helpful to their technician. They did put another new battery in my key fob and valeted the car, so not all bad news, however, I have now ordered an OBDeleven Pro to try some self diagnosis. BTW, on my way back with the car last night, headlight, radio and satnav faults were still there!
  14. I believe it i may be possible to disable permanently the start stop using OBDeleven. If so, the small cost would be worth it.
  15. My concern is with economy. OK, so after 7 seconds stopped it apparently delivers some savings, but: 1. What about at night when headlights are pulling power from the battery which has to be replaced. 2. Ditto wipers when raining 3. Battery life reduced due to massive number of starts and I realise it is a bigger battery, but that is just extra cost. 4. Starter motor life reduced. That's a big replacement expense. Or am unduly concerned?
  16. No, not feathering. It just seems an extreme change at that speed. 48 mph is more suited to 4th gear. 3rd slows down with a jerk.
  17. I am still getting to grips with my 2014 Octavia Estate 2.0 TDI CR Elegance DSG. The car is a pleasure to own and drive, apart from a few electrical gremlins, but the DSG gearbox seems uncoordinated. It changes down when coasting downhill, not always a problem, but when it sometimes goes from 4th to 3rd at around 48 mph, I have to consider something is not quite right. Any views on this?
  18. That is the message. Thank you. Amazed you managed to get a photo, as I did not even have time to read it all. I have now booked my Octavia into the dealers under warranty to get it fixed.
  19. Thank you MarkyG82. However I am in darkest Cornwall so no VCDS owner near me. OBDeleven does look interesting and not too expensive if I am reading their site correctly. https://obdeleven.com/en/#xprtbestsellproductblock_1 at £34.92, software is free and use is by credits, apparently earned by looking at adverts. So I may go that route. If the problem is not battery coding, could this package possibly diagnose just what the problem is?
  20. Thanks for the info. So definitely not a DIY job looking at the prices of such kit.
  21. Just a thought. The car is ex fleet so would have been serviced at main dealers. Unlikely they would not recode.
  22. An interesting theory. I presume recoding is by dealer only.
  23. Possible if it was just the non starting one time, but take into account all the other gremlins and the fact that when starting, the engine turnover is not sluggish. There must be more to it than that, although I would be happy if it was just the battery.
  24. My car is a late 2014 Octavia Estate 2.0 TDI CR Elegance DSG with a number of intermittent electrical faults. The headlights intermittently refuse to dip automatically, then start to dip auto. They sometimes also fail to switch on when the light is low. The radio changes the channel on its own, usually when in a poor signal area, but my previous Honda just looked for a stronger signal from the original station. Voice commands examples are intermittently displayed on the main screen. My gearbox inconsistently changes down when coasting downhill. Key memories occasionally fail to automatically adjust seats Stop start engine function when stationery often fails to stop the engine and has been known to not start when the foot brake is released. I have been getting a low key battery warning when the key battery is above 3 volts. The engine would not start at all on one occasion when my wife was driving. Getting out, locking and unlocking cleared the fault. I have been getting an error message flashing up on the screen in front of the wheel. It disappears too soon to fully read, but I can just catch words like “return to workshop” before it goes. Several days can go by between such messages. Does anyone have a clue what is going on? The car has a genuine 57k on the clock and is still under a Skoda warranty as I bought it from a Skoda Dealer about a month ago. I hesitate to take it in as I cannot actually demonstrate any faults.
