Where to install gps antenna?
mooseman4k replied to mooseman4k's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I tried it under the dash but i wasn''t massively happy so I've run it from the hu along the dash, behind the a pillar trim and it now sits at the top of the windscreen. Shame I forgot to remove all the cds from the cd changer before I unplugged the original headunit -
I'm about to install a new headunit with gps in my octavia. The gps antenna. Is there a particular place in the octavia where it'll get good reception? It'll have to go somewhere in the dash as the cable comes out the back of the hu but I'm sure there must be others on here who have done the same.

Just thought i'd jump in on this thread. I'm thinking of getting a lower brace. (can't be bothered with the top one as by all accounts it's for show rather than anything else?). Seen it on vagparts.com part number 8n0strutbar. Can anybody tell me if this is everything I need? I had rung the audi dealer but they wanted £25 + vat and then the bolts were extra.

Try putting some sound deadening in the doors. I did this on mine and it made the world of difference. -

Are aero wipers worth it?
mooseman4k replied to mooseman4k's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Fitted the wipers (easiest job ever) and they're great. Just done 500 miles in the last 2 days in the pouring rain and they were a vast improvement over the old wipers. -

Are aero wipers worth it?
mooseman4k replied to mooseman4k's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I'm currently looking at the mk golf oem kit from vagparts. From what I understand there is no point in having aero wipers unless you replace the arms as well? Or have I misunderstood something? -
I've just bought an 2004 Octavia vRS. It rained today and the wipers were next to useless. I've seen aero wipers mentioned on here quite a bit. I've found them on vagparts I think with "MK4Faero" being the order number. My first question is, is this the right kit? My second is are they actually worth it? I'm not really fussed about looks, just how well they clear the windscreen.

Just got a couple of quick questions that I couldn't find an answer to in the search. 1: Freedom talk forum - I'm guessing this another part of the forum which at the moment I cannot see? 2: Priority booking and discounted ticket price for events - What sort of events? 3: Access to our promotions/group buys - I can already see this forum. Does this mean there are more promotions/group buys for freedom members or that you cannot join a current group buy without being a member? 4: List of discounts - Is there a list to view anywhere? When I did the search I cam across a huge thread with some guy having a go at the membership. This is not my intention here at all. I'm just curious to the above points. Would also like to point out the help I've received so far has been spot on and extremely useful.

I've been trawling these forums the past couple of weeks looking for info on vRS's and they've been very helpful so far. I've found out about the cambelt changes which has been a useful bargaining tool but I'm unsure of what else to look out for. Tomorrow I'm going back to see an 04 with 12k on the clock. From what I've seen so far it looks in very good condition. A couple of stone chips on the bonnet and 3 scratches on the drivers sideskirt thingy beneath the door are the only marks on the outside. All 4 wheels and spare are in pristine condition. The dealer has offered to replace the cambelt. He hasn't offered to replace the water pump though. Is it worth while (considering the mileage) getting this replaced even if I have to pay the cost of the pump? If so I was thinking of ordering one from the internet and getting them to fit it while they change the cambelt. When I test drove it then it sounded ok, no rattles etc However, what else should I be looking for? The tyres are contisport contact jobs and all have decent tread left on them. I don't know about the brakes or how to check them though? I test drove it today and they seemed very sharp but then I only drove it for about 10 minutes. Longer test drive tomorrow. Is there any visible check I should do? Also are there any other spots I should check?

Fitting power cable in a 2000 fabia 1.4 16v
mooseman4k replied to mooseman4k's topic in Audio, Electronics and Security
I'll get some photos up later. It is imo a good job well done I plan to take it all out at the weekend and redo the boot though  I plan on putting the amps beneath the false floor so that I have boot space available for essentials, like beer. Oh forgot to add. The grommit in this photo http://www.jonesj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ICE/Power%20Lead/slides/000_0429.html is the one I didn't have. A couple of minutes with a nice drill and I voila, the hole appears -

Well I finally found the mystery grommet. The first grommet all you lucky vRS owners have isn't on mine though. I have no idea why but my engine bay is different to the one featured in the power cable guide. I drilled a hole in the thin piece of metal (no idea what its called) and now all is happy. All cables stealthed away, ipod mounted in glove box. Tommorow finishing touches and running speaker cable down the drivers side If anyones interested I'll put some piccies up. -

Way ahead of you So the huge chunk of metal seperating me from the engine is called a bulkhead, you learn something new every day I have about 5 minutes ago discovered one of the mystery grommets. being a black car and very dirty it was pretty difficult. Anyway power is into the car. It is not quite into the engine bay yet though. There is another thin piece of metal blocking it's way. I'm covered in soot and bleeding so s -
