  1. We have had a look at the fuel pump which i presume is on the petrol tank and cannot see a switch ..Any ideas?
  2. Can anyone tell me where the crash sensor is located on an N reg felicia?
  3. I have this exact same problem on my 1997 Felicia I am about to sell, Just wondering whether I should just get the airbag light reset as I had an exchange alternater last year, I don't have a meter! What does anyone think on this one!!
  4. Hi my Octy 1.6 t plate has a high clutch and whilst I can live with it at the moment starting to find that I tend to have erratic gear changing due to the high clutch bit. The clutch doesn't slip attall just wondered If theres any way of adjusting the "bite" position on the pedal. Years ago a high clutch bite meant the clutch was on the way out but with self adjusting clutches I believe this is not the case...Any of you Skoda experts know of a cure Many thanks Chris
  5. Yeah It seem a common fault , But believe it your not If your speedo wasn't working your car would pass the MOT(checked with 2 garages) but its illegal to drive without a speedo!!!! Work that out!! Like yourself I was chuffed to bits when i tried this fix as I had just bought the car and starting to get disheartened about it. I love It now Its the wifes but IVE been using it for work for the past week a real dream to drive! especially for a grand!
  6. OK I had this problem on my 1999 LXI Octy, I found a thread on this forum and in desperation tried it after many phone calls and discussions with people discovering this is a common problem, price for instrument panels (£350-£600) + vat plus labour for coding immobiliser contained within cluster to ecu PLUS LABOUR for fitting. Many panic attacks and night sweats later .. I took number 15 fuse (brown 5amp) out of the fusebox, This should bypass the problem and your dials should work but your digital clock and trip will reset everytime the ignition is turned off. This has worked on my octy and been fine for a week now. If you find this doesn't work for you find a good auto electricon If your near Norfolk I found a good one , Ps I took out the intrument panel completely to try some contact spray on the back initially, A real bitch to get out the facia surround, The tip is to get a screwdriver from the top and push down on the lower edge of the facia surround to release pronged clips that are part of the surround the haynes manual makes no mention of this!! Anyway the instrument cluster panel contains an immobilising device and is coded to the ECU (so getting a second hand inst cluster is not an easy option) If the removal of the fuse doesn't work then try an auto electrician they can normally be repaired for around £100- 150.. Mines now been working fine now without the fuse for nearly 2 weeks... All the best Chris
  7. Hey Bizarroal, I'm not to worred bout the petrol gauge more concerned about the speedo, Them speed camera vans are a sod round here and £60 is a lot of dosh and I intend to keep my insurance low (what do points make???), Driving without speedo and rev counter is almost like driving with my eyes shut I hated it. My wife would have said the same think but she already shuts her eyes whilst driving with me!!!! Chris
  8. I'm not sure If there are any long term adverse affects, But pulling a fuse out shouldn't in theory cause any damage Its not like your putting extra load on the system or putting a higher amperage fuse in that really would be potentialy dangerous. I've had my fuse out for 10 days now and no problems whatsoever. I really cannot see a problem I think the absent 5 amp fuse just breaks the faulty circuit. I'm no mechanic just an ex Motor Parts counter salesman but If any experts want to enlighten me on this please feel free Many thanks Chris
  9. Brilliant thanks for that info Phil greatly appreceated will change the gear oil asap (Got engine oil to do anyway). Many thanks again Chris
  10. It only does it from 1st to 2nd and only when cold, I havent changed the gearbox oil I thought they were sealed for life (as such), I have bought some molyslip to add to the gearbox dont know whether that will work!!
  11. Does anyone else have this problem???.. My T reg 1600 Octy lx runs like a dream and I love driving it, (Much more comfortable and smoother than the tdi110 that I have), But when It is cold the gearbox crunches when I go from 1st gear to 2nd, It goes into 2nd easy enough but with a slight crunch, But If i take it slowly and gently it wont crunch. When the car gets warmed up after say 2 mins It no longer crunches at tall. The car was previously owned by an elderly gentlman around 70-80 and does run well. Is this something to be concerned about as It is a 2nd car but I intend to keeping it for sometime as its only got 76k on the clock and only paid a grand for it!! Anyone any ideas??? Is it a common fault on this year octy?? Many thanks Chris

  13. The original owner was an old chap up untill 32,000k a year ago a young mature lad of 22 has owned it for the past year 18,000k. Yes the turbo does whistle when pulling off. i cleaned out the egr valve as it was thought that could be sticking and that was thick with sooty gammy sludge back as black. What next?? Many thanks Chris
  14. Hi, im a newby and only had my y reg octavia 1.9tdi elegance a week but we are not sure what to do. i know its always a little daunting when changing cars, but after reading loads of different threads on here im not sure if we have done the right thing. basically we also have a w reg passat tdi sport 115bhp with nearly 154000k miles (Which we are about to advertise privately) , We love the car but the only downside to it is the low suspension.we live in rural norfolk and ground out on the back lanes frequently, lol.we have had the car nearly 3 years without any trouble whatsoever. i thought as the miles were mounting up maybe it would be best to sell it while we could get a decent amount for it and get a lower mileage car,i must admit i am biased towards vw so after hearing only good things about the octavia i thought a skoda may be a cheaper option. The octy is not as powerful as i think it should be,i had it plugged in to the diagnostic thingy and the only fault was ........The gate on the turbo recycling thing sticking( or so he thinks?), But confirmed this was NOT the mass air flow sensor. The problem is basically the car gets to 3,000rpm in 3rd,4th and 5th gears and won't pull anymore, Ive only managed to get 80-90mph in top gear on a long straight and is so flat and not got any torque or peakiness in power. This is extremely worrying as we hope this is not the turbo (surely not at only 50,000k!). My wife also feels the quality and build is not as good as the passat, I'm just concerned that the Octy will not be as durable and trouble free as the passat, I know some could say well why buy a Octy in the 1st place but everyone I have spoken too has given the Octy a glowing reference and our 2nd car is a P reg felicia and been terrific for the past 3 and a half years. Any thoughts comments good and bad greatly appreacieted as we desperately need some consolation or the bare honest facts/truth. Many thanks one desperate VW patriot
