  1. I have the Special Edition vRs from 2007 with 61k on the clock. I went looking for a new Seat Ibiza 1.2 FSI a couple of weeks ago and the dealer offered me a measly £3800 for the Fabia in part exchange. Told him to shove it!
  2. Thanks mannyo, looks like they don't do it as a matter of course although as cjb says (thanks cjb), there is a tick box for it. Seems strange that they need to be told though especially as the car's only 2 years old - I doubt many people would have had the brake fluid changed before unless some sort of problem had occured. They should ask customers when the car is being booked in.
  3. I took my vRS in for its 20,000 mile service a couple of weeks ago and reading the report that came back with it have just noticed that the brake fluid wasn't changed. The report says that this is due and warns of the dangers in not getting this done. Given the service booklet also states this needs to be done every two years shouldn't the garage have changed the fluid as part of the service? Can anyone tell me if this is normal please? I'm going to speak to the garage (a Skoda main dealer) tomorrow and would like to be able to quote other owners' experiences. Thanks.
  4. Not logged in for a few days so just picked up this thread. Carefree is obviously entitled to his opinion and given his work probably more so than most of the people replying. My brother is a fireman and while cutting dead bodies out of cars is an occupational inevitability, it still upsets him occasionally - especially when it's the innocent victims of lunatic drivers. Yes we all like to feel the rush we get when accelerating hard and pushing on along a counrty lane but if you get into an accident where you were driving fast and the other person wasn't then probably 90% of the time it was your fault. All I'm saying here is basically live & let live, people. If you must drive fast then only do it when it's safe to do so. Finally, I do think that you need to change your Briskoda name, Carefree. You obviously do care.
  5. I bought my furby vrs SE last May and have been extremely happy with it. Very good acceleration & low consumption plus insurance not too expensive. My 23 year old son, who passed his test at 18 but hadn't driven since, decided to buy a car last September. Initially he wanted a Citroen C2 1.6 petrol and we went for a test drive. Both he and I hated the Citroen - very peaky engine and abysmal driving position. There was an Ibiza FR for sale and I suggested he tried that as I knew it was the same engine and power output as my furby. Needless to say he loved it and after shopping aroung bought a 55 reg one in immaculate condition with 11k on the clock from a main dealer at £9600. 10 months on and he still loves the car. Having driven both regularly I totally agree with previous comments regarding the suspension - it is very hard and I much prefer the furby's softer setup. Looks wise, I must admit to preferring the Seat. My son's car had an optional extra package wich included cruise plus chrome instrument mountings and bizzarely a silver grey surround around the driver position. This annoys me as it reflects in the windscreen which I personally find annoying (although it doesn't bother my son at all!) The car is 3 door but this isn't a problem for him as he rarely has more than one passenger. You asked about insurance. When my son was looking for quotes the cheapest online quote was about £1100 (Manchester postcode and parked on drive.) I suggested he got quotes including me as a named driver (age 55 with clean licence) to see if it made any difference and we found that the cheapest quote dropped to just under £900! Overall I would suggest you go for the Ibiza as it has a younger image, looks and drives well and I think at 19 you probably won't be bothered by the hard ride. That said, you'd not be dissapointed with the vrs either. Good luck!
  6.      Your first marriage then? Seriously though - best wishes mate.
  7. It doesn't need rotating on my tomtom one. Seems to be just older tomtoms that need this rotation?
  8. Sorry if the link for the photo wasn't working before. Should be OK now!
  9. I saw a post from mater about a month ago which detailed how to change the startup screen for a tomtom satnav to the Skoda logo. Having finally picked up my shiny SE this week I've "borrowed" the attached image from the Skoda website & put it in my tomtom using mater's instructions (which I've copied below) & it works great. I can't imagine that Skoda will be upset by the use of their photo given SE owners have just spent 13k on this little beauty!! Thanks mater:thumbup: Anyone who has a TomTom Go 300/500/700/510/710/910 i have a Skoda Splash screen for when you first turn it on so instead of having the boring tomtom go screen it shows a skoda logo instead ive attached the file to this and this is how to install it 1. Save Skoda.bmp to your desktop 2. Connect your Tom Tom to your pc 3. Go to my computer and double click on the tomtom icon 4. Delete the file
  10. You've got me worried now - I'm picking mine up from Horners Manchester next Tuesday!!! Do you think they'll clean it up or should I take a bucket and spade:confused:
  11. I hope you picked it up and put it in a litter bin? I'm finally collecting mine next Tuesday (the car not a brochure) once my personalised number plate's been transferred. It had better be good after waiting all this time!!!! No choice of the issue number after all that hype about being able to request specific number but frankly I'm not bothered (although why Skoda told dealers they could do this and then didn't set up a proper system is beyond me.) The only thing that'll take the shine off my new car is that I'm also getting a 2nd hand motorbike on Sunday for cummuting (wifey's using the vRS for work) & the bike will do 0 - 60 in about 4 seconds so the Furby will seem a bit sluggish after riding that. :orb_duh:
  12. The small print on the last adverts I saw for 0% finance in the papers specifically excluded the special edition. I also asked at the dealership when I ordered my ltd ed Fabia and he said it was only available for the normal range not the ltd ed. Cheapest unsecured loan I can see on Best credit cards, cheap mortgages, personal loans, savings accounts, house & car insurance - The Motley Fool UK is 6.2%. Hope this helps
  13. I'm relieved to see that the seats are all leather with blue piping. The suede inserts shown previously did look great but I felt would look tatty after a while. Re the need for xenon lights, I also was looking for this option but dealer advised it's not available with the ltd ed. However, the last issue of Diesel Car showed some new Philips X-Treme Power replacement bulbs which give 80% extra output than standard bulbs. Available in H4 and H7 fitments for
  14. Hi Tony58, I'm totally with you on that one - my last petrol car was a 2.5 V6 Omega, a great car in terms of performance and comfort but it did around 23 mpg driving in town. Motorways were better at about 40 mpg but I spent a fortune on petrol. I changed to my existing car which is a Mondeo 2.0 diesel which does about 40 mpg around town and 50 ish on motorways. Can't wait for my new Fabia vRS though - we test drove about 8 different cars and the vRS was the only one that put a grin on my face! Even better (and I didn't expect this) my wife loved the vRS too. We'd already tested a 1.9 diesel Elegance which she liked a lot and she's not a particularly fast driver but she loved the sheer grunt of the vRS and said she would feel safer if she had to accelerate out of trouble! We had decided to wait for the new shape but I couldn't resist the ltd edition - I'm glad I went for it given other threads on here reckon the "new" Fabia vRS will be petrol only!!!
  15. I ordered the ltd ed vRS 10 days ago. The dealer offered a reasonable part ex on my car but I am used to haggling from dealing in antiques so spent over half an hour "negotiating" the part ex price up. Ended getting
