  1. Having worked perfectly my Sat Nav on Octavia 111 has developed a fault. I switch on and the map comes up. I key in destination and select route preference but the Sat Nav then goes off and displays "please insert a data medium with valid navigation data" Ejecting and reinserting the sd card makes no difference. Is there a fix or has the sd card perhaps been corrupted in some way and will need replacing?
  2. and purchased a new 32gb SD Card loaded with Europe map. I didn't have his confidence to buy it from Ebay and so paid more and got it through Amazon. Outcome is it works perfectly. I'll keep the old SD card just in case it can be revived at any point. Thanks to all.
  3. Just to bring this tale to an end, I concluded that it was the SD card itself that was the root cause of the issue and so followed VRS_White_Hatch
  4. Hi. I downloaded the map to my laptop then extracted the data to the SD card. Should have made this clearer.
  5. Thanks for that. I go through the process of connecting the Skoda card to the laptop and downloading the map to it directly from the Update portal but it's not recognizing it. My technical expertise doesn't stretch to writing Skoda's CID to another card I'm afraid! I'll persevere and see how I get on.
  6. Deleted it first of all but then, subsequently, formatted it thinking that would clear everything.
  7. I have a 2015 Skoda Octavia with the Amundsen unit. Whenever map updates become available I delete the old map from the SD Card and upload the new map. It has always been problem free. However, on trying to upload the recently updated maps I find that they don't work. I tried to revert to the old map which I had stored on my laptop but that won't load on the unit either. I tried VW maps, having read on the Forum that this could be a solution, but still no joy. I am getting an error message saying "Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data" I'm beginning to think the SD Card might have been corrupted. Can I use a non-Skoda SD Card?
  8. Thanks very much everone for this interesting & helpful thread on Octavia wheel/tyre combinations. Plenty to think about.
  9. I've got a 2015 Octavia S EL with 17' wheels shod with Michelin 225/45 R17's. To be honest I find the ride quality appalling on the pot holes roads round the Wirral where I live. I love the car but my wife complains every time we go out and even my 2 year old granddaughter says "it's too bumpy." Don't know whether switching to 16' wheels with 60 aspect tyres would improve matters. Don't want to spend £100's to have only a marginal improvement.
  10. Ok thanks for that. Sound advice I think. It's not a job I'd fancy doing myself so I'll take it to one of the local specialists when lockdown eases. It's some years since I had a towbar fitted and things have moved on significantly since then, so I suppose I was a bit naive to be so taken aback by the cost.
  11. I'll be towing a Bailey Phoenix 420 caravan.
  12. I am going to get a swan neck detachable tow bar fitted to my 2015 Octavia Hatch. I've been advised that a dedicated electrical kit is crucial because of the sophistication of the car's electrical system. Rear parking sensors need to be disengaged when towing etc, etc. There seems to be quite a pricing disparity in fitting charges. Local specialists are quoting £700+ for a fully fitted system with suitable electrical kit. One even suggested I would need a Skoda dealer to perform a software update (£72) on the car to activate additional benefits and safety features. Halfords, on the other hand, claim to do the whole fitting with electrics for £450. Has anyone used Halfords fitting service and did they experience any problems? Or would I be better advised to pay the extra and go to one of the specialists?
